Kimbo still appears to function best as an inside forward, noone is an obvious winger, smith needs to play a little deeper, whitts is playing deep lying playmaker which isn't good, gunnarson is more of a box to box and cowie is similar but less attacking. Mutch is what we need more for the defensive midfield role but we won't because his form is poor. The only midfielder who seems to be in the right place is Conway. I think our problem is we're trying to play a defensive formation with offensive players but we can't leave the defence exposed, mostly on the flanks. Answer? We need someone to run around and cover the defensive line while we send men forward. This means that Taylor doesn't have to overlap and we can play a target man who doesn't need to be a striker so we can cut out the hoofball maybe a 4-1-3-2 with the wings willing to come back if we're getting dominated in the centre.

we need to do exactly what we're doing. winning. how can
you be 'annoyed' about that

malky plays a tight defensive game down the flanks and
forces the opposition inside where its more congested,

nd attacks are meat and drink for our big centre halfs.

I know we're winning, but we can always do better, my point is we aren't fully playing to our strengths. If we reach the premier league then I'm concerned how we will play because at the moment we're a poor mans stoke.

As already said, Kim and Conway put in more of a defensive shift to keep things tight away from home and they both keep the ball better than Noone. Noone is by far our best winger at running with the ball and beating defenders, but whereas at home, we can afford to play Noone to try and take players on, away I think it makes far more sense to play Conway and Kim-bo as they don't give the ball away as often.

I went to Blackpool and a number of times, Kim-bo in particular was running with the ball down the wing, looked up and saw nobody in the box so he turned inside and kept play simple. Noone would have probably tried to take the defender on and although he may have beaten the defender, he can also lose possession trying to beat too many players too often which puts us on the back foot away from home.

Away, we have to keep the ball as much as possible, be compact and be hard to beat. Kim-bo and Conway are perfect for this. At home, it is up to us to get at the opposition and try to break them down. Noone is perfect for this and I think this is the main reason why Malky plays Noone at home, but not so much away.
