Massively. I thought you already had sold out.

Yes,I stand corrected 3 generations,I started in "67 and used the sale of toshack as a starting point,I/we grew up in Cardiff with all my mates supporting Leeds, man utd, spurs,Liverpool,Ajax anyone but the city and to claw back a new generation is great but filling out stadiums is rare these days and I think were doing just fine

Yes I am going on about our crowds for home games, we only hold 26,680 and weve been getting 22,000 crowds, yet Malky's team have been breaking all records this season and were months away from the Premier League, that we have not been to for 51 years. Surely but surely our home ends should be jammed packed every game?
Football watching habits have changed a lot since we all thought we were a big club back in the day. The premiership has become the big draw not the team you support! If you look at attendances in both the Prem and Championship, then in the Prem, most clubs average attendances, are pretty much at capacity, yet in the Championship, they are well off for all clubs apart from Brighton. Leicester who one can argue should be way bigger than us and who are looking like automatic promotion candidates have a season highest attendance which is lower than ours and their average attendance is only a couple of hundred higher. Everyone is suffering, we need to be spending a couple of seasons in the promised land to see how big we really are.

Annis,
Are you quoting tickets sold or attendance figures?
Just wondering as there would probably be a fair difference between the two.
With as many season ticket holders as there are (think someone mentioned 18k) you are going to have a percentage who cant make every game.
then take in to account the allocation for the away fans (not sure how many they get)
I may be wrong but to get 22k out of 26 doesn't seem that far off the mark to me.

Annis. The reason is the rebrand, if we were all singing from the same hyme sheet, by being blue this season. we would have sold out most of our home games. But we have two lots of fans now blues and pro reds. And most of the from england are anti rebrand as thier live with fans from other clubs who think we have been sold down the river. Fact.

It took 34posts for someone to blame the rebrand

alot of fans gave up when we moved to the ccs way before any rebrand come about some i know lasted a season there and thought wtf is this crap soulless ground all about with happy clappers in, harsh but its true.

Newcastle, West Brom, Reading, Saints are all recent top 2 promoted teams and they didn't sell out. Qpr and Norwich were close to full houses because Loftus Rd is small and Norwich were riding high after promotion the previous season.

I know loads who went when we were at ninian park but don't go anymore as they think its boring or not the same now
Wed Feb 06, 2013 9:20 am
They sell half season tickets in december with the lure/ promise of a guarantee to buy a premiereship season ticket next year, yet in feburary will sell a season ticket for the prem to anyone who wants one even if that person has never been or intends not to go for the rest of the remaining season.Very poor marketing
Wed Feb 06, 2013 9:24 am
Doesnt help when ticket firms are snapping up the cheap tickets in bulj then selling them on at a profit.
Wed Feb 06, 2013 9:37 am
We should have been selling out the home end around November time. At that point we were 2/3rd and going well, yet still getting around 22,000. No question about it, we should be selling out every game, big or not, and should also be taking big numbers away from home. The players have continued to do their part, now we have to do out part.
Lets fill out our end home and away.
And support the boys and make sommeee noiiissseee!!!

Whichever way we look at it top of the championship, going to the prem , a lot of lads have walked away due to how boring and bland it all is.

I agree with this, back in the 80s and early 90s I used to go with about 30-40 regular lads home and away, I reckon that only about 5-10 of those lot ever attend games on a regular basis now. I don't know why they lost the bug, but success since then has not turned them back on. I will be interested if its Premiership football that will eventually wet their appetites again.

I think a huge amount of fans only turned up in the crap days just for a laugh a scrap or a mad day out and football wasn't that important now times have changed and the football is the biggest part of the club lot's of those fans don't attend as they think its boring ..

Im not shocked,
We build ourselves up hugely, we have always done it, and in some ways you cant blame us, the media doesn't help with all this sleeping giant nonsense! We say we have the support base, but this shows we are just the same as all the other clubs out there.
We've not had massive crowds for years, hardly ever sold out at ninian or CCS.
We've had decent teams for a few years now and challenged in FA/League Cups and pushed for promotion for a good few years. But still never sold out consistently. Its why we dont need a huge stadium, as after a few losses in the prem, we could see attendances drop to around 24-25000.
The club is getting bigger, as shows with the increased numbers on both forums. but these people are taking an interest with games on tv, listening/watching on SSN and reading in the echo etc. I think we are still nearly a generation away from having proper city fans to push up the numbers.

I wonder if it came in, safe standing might tempt a few back. For me there is nothing like the match day experience of having a few beers, and being able to jump around and sing, and cheer the team on.
This is why I much prefer away games.
I know standing is 'permitted' in the Canton, but maybe if safe standing was introduced properly and the stewards weren't so anal there would be a better atmosphere and some lads may be tempted back.

If loads went to NP, why did we hardly sell out then? Everyone seems to know someone who used to go, if everyone knew someone who used to go we could have sold out Old Trafford each week.

If you watch some of games on TV,you will see a lot of empty seats,i personally believe that ticket prices have a lot to do with fans not going to games
Wed Feb 06, 2013 10:43 am
I think ticket prices are an issue £25-£30, £3.50 in the ground for a pint (ish), cost of food. All tallies up to an expensive day out.
Also, a lot of people that used to go, probably have families, and work commitments now.
Possibly, the unemployment figures in the 16-24 year old age group are a factor as well.
Wed Feb 06, 2013 10:53 am
Think its a mix of economy and the re-brand tbh I know a couple of people who didn't renew their season ticket for this season due to finances and they are just cherry picking games for this year , they have both bought season tickets for next year on finance .
I think come last month of the season we will sell out home games , atmosphere will improve if we go up as I think one of the reasons the atmosphere is poor is a lot of fans are bored of the championship , you look at Swansea now in the prem their atmosphere in their ground has improved

Tough times Annis, not much spare cash unfortunately....The days of £3-£5 to get in are long gone.
Is football out pricing itself?

A lot to do with that is away support there has been shocking followings from most teams. I can only remember leeds, sheffield weds and millwall bringing down decent support. Also the ticket prices have been high this year as well, my friend paid £33 pound for the leeds game so if your not s/t holder it cost more than watching the jacks in the prem. Its shocking really.Obvouisly the rebrand hasnt helped either.
Wed Feb 06, 2013 12:21 pm
We've lost fans due to the rebrand, not my opinion, just stating a fact.
Wed Feb 06, 2013 12:43 pm
Surely the most common reason for not attending a game would be the cost of it. Football fans in the main come from the working class, unfortunately quite a few of these aren't working. Attendances are down at many clubs, even Man Utd have not sold out all their games. No coincidence/surprise that these drop in attendances come at a time of austerity for most.
Wed Feb 06, 2013 12:56 pm
Annis, Ten years in any division will affect attendances, you know that. If you compare our crowds to clubs like Wolves and Birmingham among many others who have only been back in the championship five minutes then our gates are still decent. You've said yourself if we make the step up then we're capable of selling 35,000 season tickets in a bigger stadium. As a poster above mentions, the sleeping giant of welsh football NEEDS top flight. How we've managed to keep 20,000 season ticket holders happy after all this time in the championship should if anything, be applauded
Wed Feb 06, 2013 1:08 pm
the crowds are fine
Wed Feb 06, 2013 1:11 pm
In the current economic climate the match day price tickets are an absolute nonsense lets be fair.
