Very true! Hypothetically You can't tell possibly your best player, most influential, and all round best choice that he can't be some captain because he was born possibly in a hospital 100 yrds over the boarder in the wrong direction. Even though he is the best choice by far, oh but btw we still want you to come and give everything for the team and turn up all the time.

I genuinely think some of the fans were dropped as babies.

If you respect Shawcross' and Turner's decision to turn down the chance to play for Welsh as their loyalties are with England, then you must respect Williams' decision to play for Wales as his loyalties are with Wales.

His attitude towards playing for Wales and captaining his country, never pulling out of a squad selection through injury, shows to me that he considers himself as Welsh. You don't have to be born in Wales to be Welsh. Give me someone who was born outside our borders any day that shows the commitment and dedication to his role that Ash does as captain over the half-hearted Ryan Giggs, Gareth Bale, Craig Bellamy and the endless list of players who are constantly pulling out of squads to play for their club the following weekend. Add that to the overwhelming and important fact that out of the squad of players we have, Ashley Williams is the best leader and best suited captain - not an Aaron Ramsey or Gareth Bale who regardless of their ability are not leaders.

Can't fault his attitude and he is good enough. However the grandparents rule is wrong in my opinion and even though we have used it for years it has not exactly done us any favours! Parents rule is fine-my older 2 boys (born in Bath/Salisbury) both consider themselves to be welsh and if good enough should play for Wales.

Ashley Williams and others (most goalkeepers since Southall) should not play for Wales as they are taking places of genuine welsh players

As far as I'm concerned if he's eligible to play for Wales he's got to be eligible to be captain.

Otherwise we have a strange situation where non-Welsh born players are almost second class players to Welsh born players regardless of commitment or ability.

Williams might not be Welsh per se but in fairness he has been a great player for club and country, he would by now have had a chance in the England set up with his performances, much better than Collins who cocks up all the time

No? And your argument is?

He would never ever have a chance of getting a look in the England squad, hes poor for club.

If he had the chance he would have stuck to his loyaltys and rejected to play for us.

I would only accept the parent rule.

I manage to watch Wales trying to avoid the fact most of the squad are born in other countrys but eligible for having Welsh grandparents etc.

Yes Giggs and that didn't put their heart into it but its their choice and they played for Wales regardless of the heart and passion.

I won't step foot in a ground to watch a Wales game with an Enlgish born captain leading us out. It is beyond me.

I will return when decision is changed.

I wish players would stick to their loyaltys and stop taking the EASY opition of playing for a country because they know it ent exactly hard to get a game if your playing above League 2.

I think you are the bitter one coming on here having a go at me. I have given an opinion which may not be right but not once have I criticised your club in that opinion . Read it again and tell me where I have slagged your club and its players off? Posters like you and swansealad are an embarrassment to Swansea city. Look at scots jack and 6bysedd who get involved in good banter. Do this board a favour and stop visiting

Most of the dislike of Ashley Williams is because he plays for Swansea.

Swansea players have been booed only recently during Wales matches - remember Joe Allen not long ago ? What was the reason for that ?
Is he English ?, born in the Midlands ?, NO - he played for Swansea.

If Williams played for Cardiff or Wrexham, would there be the same outcry ? I don't think so.

If he qualifies under the current rules and plays his heart out I have no problem with that.
