It's not obvious though.

Number of goals scored so far in a season has no bearing on whether they'll score any more.

The only difference is confidence from a scoring run.

....By theory we should get earnie back in the team he's only scored 2 so far so he's bound to be due a good run of goals to see us over the line!.....18 to 20 maybe?? ;) :P

trying to hammer home the point that just because it doesnt happen often, doesnt mean it cant happen. and to suggest so is just rather silly

Highest scored in the last 8 years was 27 by Ricky Lambert last year. Lowest top scorer in the last 8 years was Peter Whittingham and Nicky Maynard in 2009-10.

Austin and Murray are flying.

Thankyou thats my point need score at least a goal every game nealy to reach 35goals

Agree. May get 32 if he stays with Burnley, 30 if he comes to us, probably 26-28 if he goes to the Prem.

Re: austin?

Mon Jan 07, 2013 10:22 pm

Less with us than Burnley?

Re: austin?

Mon Jan 07, 2013 10:25 pm

I see where your coming from. you can only go on history. He's good but no better than other top strikers from.other seasons. I'd bet he won't have as good a goals to games ratio second half of season if he does its an anomaly or he turns out to be the best champ striker ever. other capable strikers will come into form and take over...maybe even sordell

Re: austin?

Mon Jan 07, 2013 10:26 pm

Ah. This board pisses me off at times but every now and then....

We should actually use Austins goals so far as a bargaining chip against Burnley.

"No way are we paying £5m for a feller who has already scored 20 goals this season,
they will dry up soon."

"Erm.... how much do you want for your keeper? and whats he like up front?"

Don't make me get the stats out. :D

Austin is scoring all Burnley's goals, the next highest is four then a few with two. Our goals are spread out more and we have high scoring midfielders. Austin takes Burnley's penalties. I would believe Whitts will continue with free kicks and penalties

Will we create more chances for him? I think so.

If we create more chances for HIM personally, he'll score over 40 goals this season ;) I. I'd assume, however, the chances created will continue to be spread around the team, but hey, who knows its just a guess, educated, I hope.
