I'm amazed he gets so much coverage off our fans.

I think Malkys shot himself in the foot abit, signing him and not playing him. And with all the un nessersay pressure coming off the fans its going to make things worse. He is a good player, and I would put money on him being a better striker than Smith, Gestede and Mason.

If Etien moves to another club in this division, week in and week out he would show us why it was a mistake to let him go. Meanwhile hes gotta deal with Malkys favourites and stubborness.

what exactly are you basing that on :?

my personal opinion is that he isnt good enough for championship football and no matter what team he plays with he wont be a hit here, im sad to say it because i had high hopes for him but it does look like malky has signed a dud and before people say dont judge him on one performance, take into account that hes;

.a pro footballer so all this rubbish that he cant settle in is bull as hes been here months now and been training with the first team
.scored goals in the slovenian league, hardly end of the rainbow stuff
.has been playing week in week out in development games, reserve games etc so its not as if he's not fit
.malky sees him every day.
.he's played with most of the players that played v maccs as that was basically the development squad

in no way though should people slate malky for this though as every manager makes dud signings.

i think we should look to cut our losses and get rid before we end up having nothing for him. im sure some bottom end championship, league 1-2 side or even his old side would take him back.

i dont often do threads like this but i just wanted to share my opinion, sorry etien, tried but just isnt good enough

i personally dont think he will cut it for us,

but you are so so wrong its unreal with your bullet points.

because hes a pro football player he should be able to settle? Football is probably making it harder to settle. knowing the style of play is different to what you are used to, knowing you arent playing as well as you can and not playing because you cant settle into the area and the uk way, probably makes him more frustrated and harder to settle.

Read any good footballer biog or speak to them if you can and you quickly find out development games (or a posh way of saying reserve football) is like friendlies and not taken seriously at all by a seasoned player. its nowhere near the speed of a proper game in your head, feet and to watch. the adrenaline isnt flowing and its not a good thing to be in.

Malky does see him every day, and when has he ever come out and said hes unhappy with him or said that he would be ready this season?

my bullet points where my opinion,

Saddom! i think you hare being a bit harsh on the buy, i know he is 24 now so not really a youth player but malky did say the whole point in his plan to bring him here was to develop him physically in the academy and finish his footballing education .

How ever he will need regular first team football to reach his potential :ayatollah:

its way too early to be writing off a player who has been here for 6 months and is only 24 years old.

£1m :?: :?: :?:

Jarvis IMO has now overtaken him in the pecking order.

Was it just me or did he look slightly overweight on the tv?

City need better cover up front if these 2 are the reserves, given that Helgusson & Gestade would probably not get into most other championship sides.

at 24 how much better can you get ? in my opinion the age where players get better are 17-22, just my opinion though

Players are always improving IMO.

The lad can clearly finish, that seems built into him. He needs to adapt and toughen up.

can you honestly say that you expect to see him play any more part in this season ?

No I don't, not for us.

so its a dud then because if he's finding it hard to adapt to championship football then (if we go up, wich looks a big certainty) then its even more of a challenge for him, like i said malky should just hold his hands up, admit hes made a dud and look to get rid, i think a lot of fans would appreciate that rather than clutching at straws (hoping that maybe he will come good)

Not really, MM has said he is working on his physic and learning to adapt, he is developing the game of a player who seems a very good finisher.

Maybe the premiership will suit him more, maybe it won't.
Maybe next season he will go out on loan to a champ club next season after building himself up and get some confidence. Maybe we will end up selling him for profit, or maybe a loss who knows.

I don't see any logic at all in paying up his contract.

Hmmm Swansea didn't pay much more for Michu did they ? Hmmm dud is an understatement i'm afraid.

We are being to tough on this lad, I remember my mate who is a chelsea supporter complaining about some striker they signed called Drogba the following season he was a different class some players take a while some dont but we can not take one silly game full of kids on this lad that would be totally unfair .

I am just glad some of you do not run City we would be in a mess, Velikonja may turn into a flop but we can not take that thought from one game if that is the case I saw him against Newcastle and he looked good but let Malky do his job

Re: " The Velikonja situation "

Mon Jan 07, 2013 7:42 pm

we spent 2 million on him. are we in that position to spend that money on. as some say . for the future. would rather put that money towards a proven striker?

That is true Saddam, he is 24 and his scope for improvement is limited, but how many players have we seen move to this country and fail at their first club but go on to be massive successes.

It would be very worrying if were strapped for cash and malky had put all his chips on him, but i think now we can afford to take a loss on this player without being in a situation where we are forced to make financial sacrifices elsewhere.

I'm amazed he gets so much coverage off our fans.

because we played 1million pounds for him and every player we have gets talked about.

I appreciate we talk about all players but I've never seem so many on one player, it's a few everyday saying the same stuff.

We are top of the league and have a big squad, it like are fans are obsessed with finding a negative and going on and on about it.

So far he hasn't done anything, will he next year or the year after? I don't know.

It's hardly a pressing issue.
