Low centre of gravity and close control. That's why no-one can stop him. I was always skeptical of his ability and I still think if he came over he wouldn't be as effective as he is in La Liga. You can't deny his statistics though. He is one of the greatest players to have played the game? The greatest? It will divide opinion but I certainly think he and Cristiano Ronaldo are the best two players to have played the game ever.
You can debate about their lack of impact on the international stage but their managers at that level have been pretty poor and not got the best out of them. Club football is much more demanding if you ask me and the real bread and butter. Personally, that one season Ronaldo had where he scored loads of goals in the Premiership was the best season's performance I've witnessed, perhaps alongside Henry when he was at his peak and scored some awesome goals with Pires, Ljungberg et al. However, this calendar year has been phenomenal by Messi.
