Love Kev, one of our most reliable and consistent performers in the last 5 or 6 years. Although he's had a few poor games this season he's came back in and impressed. Although his distribution could be better at times no doubt, his pace, tenacity, experience and attitude make him an asset to the club. I'd definitely give him a year, maybe 2 if he's ok that he may not be starting as much as he'd like :ayatollah:

My sentiments exactly.

Been poor lately and his terrible passing is being highlighted more and more

Absolutely no doubt he can tackle and covers others across the back four with his pace.

He has always been 100% committed to Cardiff City and the club should reward this with a new contract of 2 years (maybe with a 1 year break clause). Loyalty works both ways, even in football.

PS: He should also sign a clause that if his children are good at sport they have to represent Wales (born here) not Scotland.

Please, please, please give him a new contract!

By far the best defender we have at this club!

People talk of giving McPhail a new contract?
He has contributed hardly anything compared to Super Kev, so no question McNaughton deserves one.

If he wants a contract then that's only a good thing. He's been such a consistent player over the last 7 seasons with us :ayatollah:

Havent read all the posts but i would be devestated if he left, great servant and behind whitts he has been our player of the year on a number of seasons. This hasnt been his best season but you seen what he can do defensively against zaha who is rated 10-15 million, he will come up against worse players in the prem. honest, hardworking, loyal. The guy is a city LEGEND in my book. Would be gutted to see him leave. If he does it should be made public before the end of the season so the supporters can give him the send off he deserves

People go on about mcphail having a new contract, fans favourite but hes been nowhere as good or as consistent as super kev

Re: " Be Honest would you give him a New Contract ? "

Sun Dec 30, 2012 2:22 pm

He deserves a new contract and as long as he knows that he won't play every game it works out well for both sides. He is not PL pedigree but he has been a loyal servant to the club and that should be respected!

Yes, and when his playing Career is over, like Mcphail I'd like to see them both get coaching roles at the club :ayatollah:

Dec 30 2012

“There’s been no talks about a new deal at the moment so I am just keeping my fingers crossed. I would love to stay at Cardiff, but I’ll have to see what happens.

LONG-SERVING full-back Kevin McNaughton is desperate to spend the rest of his career at Cardiff City, but fears his time may be up in the Welsh capital with his current contract finishing at the end of the season.

The 30-year-old has no idea yet if he will get a new deal under manager Malky Mackay, but with Cardiff on course finally for Premier League promotion, McNaughton, in his seventh season at the club, said he is determined to do all he can to earn one.

Since signing on a free transfer from Aberdeen way back in May 2006, McNaughton has become a firm fans’ favourite at Cardiff, but after a major influx of talent last summer he has found his once assured place in the starting XI become more and more under threat.

Ironically, the glut of new players that has seen the Scot marginalised might finally help the Bluebirds secure promotion after years of knocking on the door of the Premier League and McNaughton admits he will be as thrilled as anyone if Cardiff can finally go up even if it costs him his place at the club.

“I hope to stay. I would love to stay, but the decision is up to the club really. I would sign in a heart-beat,” said the Dundee-born defender.

“I would be delighted to see the club progress. It’s part of football that sometimes things don’t work out for you.

“I could never be disappointed if this club gets promoted. I would be absolutely delighted. If I have to move on at the end of the season then I have to move on. That’s just a part of life and you’ve got to get on with it.

“I made the decision to leave Aberdeen and they were desperate to keep hold of me. Now I’m experiencing the flip-side of it in that I’m desperate to stay, but I might not be here. That’s football and you’ve got to take the highs and the lows. I would not be begrudging anyone promotion here.

“There’s been no talks about a new deal at the moment so I am just keeping my fingers crossed. I would love to stay at Cardiff, but I’ll have to see what happens.

“I’d definitely like to see out my career at Cardiff, my children were born here, it’s my home really, but the way the club is progressing, you can’t always hang on to it. Sometimes you have to move on just to get playing regularly. I’ve not spoken to the manager about it. I’ve just been busy grafting away to try to get myself back in the team. That’s the main priority right now.

“I know if I’m playing regularly I can do a job in this league. I’m as fit as I was when I came in the door. Well, I feel that way anyway. I do feel I can do a job at this level if I can get a new contract, but we’ll have to see. I’m just working hard and keeping my head down. The squad is full of good players and the team is doing well so there’s not a lot you can do about it. “During 270 appearances for Cardiff down the years McNaughton has experienced every high and every low with the Bluebirds including an FA Cup and Carling Cup appearance at Wembley along with a string of play-off heartaches under current boss Mackay and his predecessor Dave Jones.

Right now the Bluebirds sit top of the Championship and look in great shape to finally make the step up to the top-flight.

McNaughton admits even he is amazed by the progress the club has made both on and off the pitch since he arrived, indeed the Scot believes there is only one thing missing now and that is that long-cherished promotion.

“It was very different when I arrived We were in Portakabins getting our food and doing weights in the car-park. It was very different,” added McNaughton.

“That was just the state of the club at that time. The money was getting spent on bringing boys in. What was going on in terms of training and things like that was really second fiddle. The club has progressed. It’s crazy really. The missing piece of the whole jigsaw now is getting promotion. That’s really the bit that’s been missing. Everything is in place now although it wasn’t when I arrived here.”

Yes give an extension 1 maybe 2 years, he hasn't had a great season but he has it in him to turn things around

I love Kev, but if we go up we must release him I'm afraid. If players like Kev are getting regular games for us in the Premiership, we will get relegated straight away. I think we will have no option but to release him and use his wages to bring in someone much better if we go up.

Yes he deserves a contract, a squad is needed and although I would not consider him a first choice right back in the premier is useful squad player or defensive cover on bench

I would give him a new contract, definitely.

if in the prem no chance. no time for sentiment we will need much better.

Yes. He still has a role to play this season and he will be excellent back up if we go up. 2 year contract but with no guarantee of regular first team football.

If he hasn't been been offered a new contract yet, there is the clue. He's gone!

Re: " Be Honest would you give him a New Contract ? "

Sun Dec 30, 2012 9:42 pm

i think any contracts now .would depend what division we are in. we could end up in the prem with 11 players in the stand getting 15000+

Re: " Be Honest would you give him a New Contract ? "

Sun Dec 30, 2012 9:52 pm

No i wouldn't, he's on the decline and has been for the previous 18 months, we will need much better players in the Premiership and now is the right time to bring in players of Premiership quality ready for next season hopefully.

Sorry to say that Kev should be released if City get promoted to the Premiership.
No time for sentimental thoughts. As a professional footballer Kev is paid a fortune compared to most of us.
Giving him another year to basically sit on the bench each week and collect his money is no good to the Club AND no good to Kev either. Footballers need regular games so for his own happiness I would rather City gave him some sort of testimonial and allowed another lower league team to benefit from his experience.

If he wants one then give him one I say, if he wants to commit for another year or 2 then fantastic.

Only 1/2 year.
