FIFA President Infantino went down to the Iranian dressing room after the 2-2 draw between Iran and New Zealand:
“You showed the whole world tonight that you are in the World Cup.”
“You united the entire stadium behind the team.”
“You are sending a very powerful message to the world.”

Iran v. New Zealand ended around 8pm here in Los Angeles.
At 10:07pm, Iran players were on a bus bound for the airport, where they'd fly back to Tijuana. World Cup organizers wouldn't let them stay and recover.
“Everything is like a disaster for us," Mehdi Taremi said.

Looking forward to France v Senegal at 8.
France are my pick to win the tournament and I think Senegal are a very good team, possibly the best African team. They also have players known to Premier League audiences like Ndiaye and Gueye from Everton, Sarr from Palace, Mane who was at Liverpool, Diouf from West Ham and Jackson who was at Chelsea.

Of course he did, they're as corrupt as each other & no doubt they're both getting something out of it. They're also both all talk & no action, if this had been any other country treating players & officials this way Infantile would have taken the tournament away from them even once it had started but he couldn't with this one as his hands are so deep in trump's pockets he's no doubt having a quick feel around in there.

It's not just with the US though. Remember his weird press conference before the Qatar World Cup when he said "today I feel gay, today I feel Arab, today I feel a migrant worker" etc.
He's an embarrassment.
BBC don't get everything right but in Infantino's pre-World Cup press conference for this tournament, the BBC's Dan Roan asked him "have you lost control of your own World Cup before it's even started?"
Infantino looked genuinely hurt by that question but it's true.

Despite the good competitive games in general there's always something just below surface that makes this WC less memorable for the football.....but Looking forward to the game in 10mins though....

I have backed France to win the tournament and Mbappe to be top scorer so....
Allez la France
Tue Jun 16, 2026 7:18 pm
Early stages but I was expecting a bit more from France.

Here we go, first big mistake from VAR.
Obvious penalty should be given to France. Not given.
Tue Jun 16, 2026 8:31 pm
1-0 France now.
Inevitably, it's Mbappe.

I don't think it was VARs decision but the ref sticking to his guns, they wouldn't have him go to the screen if they thought the same as him to start with. I wasn't convinced it was a penalty.

Personally, I think it's a stonewall penalty and surprised it wasn't given. Irrelevant now after the Mbappe goal.

This will finish 1-0 to France I think now.
I don't see anyone stopping France. Having someone like Olise providing for Mbappe is almost a cheat code.

I think Olise and Mbappe could give them the trophy, two of the best in the world.

Great moment for Iraq.

Oh dear, a disaster for the Iraq keeper and it's 2-1.

France looked good - 2nd Half .

Norway beat Iraq 4-1, Haaland got two goals.
Argentina v Algeria coming up next but I'll be asleep by the end, so the main post will be updated later.
There's also Austria v Jordan at 5am.

Argentina looked quality, they move the ball through midfield in good fashion. A very balanced & fluid team. The best so far

Watched the first hour and I agree. Messi hattrick.
Today:
Portugal v Congo (6pm)
England v Croatia (9pm)
Ghana v Panama (12am)
Uzbekistan v Colombia (3am)
Wed Jun 17, 2026 4:52 pm
Portugal v Congo beginning in the next ten minutes.
A lot of excitement in these parts about England's first game at 9pm.
I actually think England have a chance of doing it this time, they have the players and the manager. We're going to have to accept that they'll win something sooner or later.
Wed Jun 17, 2026 5:07 pm
Already 1-0 to Portugal, Joao Neves with the goal.
Wed Jun 17, 2026 6:03 pm
Half time & it's 1-1 after DR Congo equalized on the stroke of half time.
