Capt Tom Moore inspires 91-year-old's walk for NHS

Inspired by Captain Tom Moore's remarkable fundraising feat, Rhythwyn Evans is also putting his best foot - and walking stick - forward for a good cause.

The former farmer aims to mark his 91st birthday on Saturday by walking 91 times around his bungalow on Tan-y-Graig Farm, Silian, Ceredigion, to raise money for his local health board.

Rhythwyn is self-isolating with his wife Gwyneth, though neither have any coronavirus symptoms.

"I've lived to a ripe old age so now I want to give something back to the area I have always lived," he said.

He has already passed his target of raising £3,000

My good news! This morning I had wynne evans call my sister in law,who works at Llandough hospital, by surprise, as my wife and I had registered her for being a hero/champion of the day last week, not knowing how she would react,as she has been rather down, with being frightened of going to work, because of covid, and her husband having recent heart surgery! We thought we'd put her name forward anyway in the hope it would give her a lift, the call was played today over the air,and we are pleased to say, while being gobsmacked,it really made her week! And ours,we wern't sure if she would hang up, as he called her by name, and she wasn't sure who it was, then he revealed she had been chosen as hero of the day and read out what her sister had written in her message to radio wales, was emotional. I would like to recommend this to all of you who know someone who is performing so admirably, in any key working posistions, to txt in to his show, and nominate your choice, his show is on weekdays from 11 am till 2pm,and every day, there is a champions roll call, and one surprise call,to people who really need to know we are rooting for them.the txt number is 81012.Monday gone we sang the anthem on our lawn, with many others,in sing for Wales, which may be repeated.go on guys, make someone's day! :old: :bluebird:

Former Tour de France champion Geraint Thomas has raised £300,000 for the NHS after completing a trio of 12-hour rides over three days.

Thomas rode on a turbo bike in his garage at home in Cardiff for 36 hours over the course of three days from 07:30 until 19:30 in his bit to help raise funds to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.

"No exaggeration, the last two hours were the hardest I have ever had on the bike," said Thomas.

"I could barely sit down."

According to a doctor My 93 year old Mum was 99% certain to have contracted CV19 on Sunday after she, along with 5 other residents in her card home went down with a roaring temperature. I had a call on Monday to ask if nursing staff could administer the ‘end of life’ medication that had been left as a precaution by the doctor as my mum had been in distress. I agreed and was told that it could take between 6-48 hours.
I’m pleased to say that after being told that there’d been an improvement on Thursday and on Friday I wS told they were ceasing the EOL medication as she was sitting up in bed talking and having a drink.
I had a call around half hour ago to say that she’s bank in the communal dining room enjoying lamb stew. Nurse said that she seems to have got over what ever she had.
Sorry lads, had to share that.

Inspirational eight-year-old takes matter into her own hands

Youngster has been making PPE while at home for NHS staff inscribed with the mesage 'you are all doing a great service: Love Nahla-Rose Age 8'

THE ISSUE OF personal protective equipment (PPE) for NHS staff has been key during the coronavirus pandemic.

With news that key workers were not being afforded the PPE they merited, 8-year-old Nahla Bartlett-Vanderpuye quite literally took things into her own hands.

She has been making PPE while at home. In each batch that Nahla has donated she labels one mask with a message which reads “you are all doing a great service: Love Nahla-Rose Age 8”. She has received repeat requests for more masks from all the hospitals she has donated to.

Following on from her coverage on the BBC, Nahla has had an abundance of requests from other key workers for her equipment as far afield as Warrington.

Nahla is currently experiencing lockdown with her family, mum and dad – Charlene and Joe – and grandmother, Rose.

A 90-year-old woman inspired by Captain Tom Moore has climbing the equivalent of a Highland mountain on her staircase to raise money for the NHS and a hospice.

Margaret Payne, of Ardvar, Sutherland climbed the height of Suilven - 2,398ft - by making 282 trips upstairs and raised £125,000.

Any death is incredibly sad for those families involved but for 2 dats running the number of UK deaths have dropped quite considerably.
Even allowing for a potential ‘spike’ after the weekend this is hopefully a good sign.

The 99-year-old war veteran who raised more than £27m for the NHS has opened a new Nightingale Hospital in Harrogate.

Captain Tom Moore, who raised money by completing 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday, appeared via video link at the opening on Tuesday.

A virtual ceremony was held to open the 500-bed facility at Harrogate Convention Centre, the first of seven field hospitals built outside a city.

Captain Tom was invited to appear in honour of his fundraising effort.

Asked about opening the new hospital, he said: "It's one of those things you never think would ever happen."

They saying delaying it is wrong.

They are now going to start opening up slowly later in May :thumbright:

Mate thank you so much for asking but unfortunately she passed away peacefully early yesterday morning.
She was kept comfortable throughout and the staff at the home have been superb.
Even though we expected the worse eventually it’s still a sad sad time for us, particularly with the current conditions re funeral and close family members unable to get together.
Really appreciate that you thought to come back and ask mate. There’s great people in this world and you are clearly one of them. Stay safe mate.
