All this talk of a striker when IMO it is more necessary to get in a decent right back and central midfielder.

Think it was only ever going to be a loan deal.
Seems Woods is available for around 6 million, not sure why we are not interested other than his physical size?

Over 20k posts on what appears to be yet another name linked with us that looks to be no more than a rumour.. At least it is unlikely, probably impossible, that we will sign someone who has not yet been linked to us. Not sure if there are any players left who have not been reported to be on their way here. We can do it all again in January. ;)

What I'm trying to say is there is a lot of made up stories in the press, and fans will naturally tend to place some sort of trust that these reports have some substance behind them. Reading this thread, it looked to some as if this was a done deal. I wonder if we offered £15m for Deeney or whether this was a figment of someone's imagination. We will find out soon enough, but it has come to the stage where I ignore every rumour that appears in the press. If they throw enough names into the hat, they will probably get one right in the end. I am begining to think that if I start a rumour on this forum, it will be on Wales online within a few hours. I have a bee in my bonnet about our press and not just where football is concerned. I feel they are constantly selling us all false news.

There is no way we offered £15m for him, if we were realy after him first offer would be £8/10m or so, if we offered the £15m watford would say no we want £20m that is why the £15m is a load of bollux, we probably only made an enquiry :laughing6:

I never believed this story from the moment it surfaced, which is why I never put any comments on this thread until this evening. Always seemed a load of cobblers to me. I thought Warnock had already said he was looking at a further two loan signings, and while I hope I'm wrong, I don't think we have the money to buy Deeney or pay his wages. I think everything is guesswork as up to now Warnock has kept everything out of the public eye until the deal is done. I don't think he will change between now and Aug 9th or whenever the window closes, but I would expect to see at least one more signing, probably a midfielder. I am not sure if Warnock is prioritising a striker, but like most on here, I think a proven PL goal scorer would help. Easier said than done, they tend to cost a lot of money, and any potential signing needs to be persuaded that the bookies have got our odds completely wrong as far as relegation is concerned. Doubt if we would be first choice if a decent striker is looking at the prospect of several clubs before deciding where he is going to ply his trade this season. Warnock is going have to earn his money when it comes to attracting a bit of quality here, but he has done ok up to now.

the last bit is a very very good point.......read many times this summer..we could put in a cheeky bid...offer a 2 year instead of 3 year contract..low wages..relegation clause et etc..truth is to the entire world we look nailed on to go down..and the reason most would come here are the opposite of those i listed...i know what id want to move to a club favs to go down...3 year contract NO relegation clause..more money than on at present and a decent signing on fee..not to mention if we negotiate whats seen as a low fee with player Xs Club the deal might well be gazumped {which is probably why our transfers have all been kept quiet }

It’s tiresome I agree. And as I mentioned earlier I’ll be glad when it’s done. But fans on here will speculate when we are linked to a player, it’s only natural. Some will be complete fabrication and some will have a bit of truth to them , like brooks and Phillips for example who we know that Warnock at least enquired about

Cardiff City decide against bid for Watford forward Troy Deeney?

Cardiff decide against Troy Deeney bid?

By Darren Plant, Reporter

Thursday 2nd August 2018

Cardiff City have reportedly decided to end their interest in Watford forward Troy Deeney.

The newly-promoted Premier League side have made a number of additions ahead of the new campaign, but manager Neil Warnock remains in the hunt for further signings.

The Bluebirds were linked with an approach for Deeney earlier this week, with it being suggested that the Welsh outfit may make a bid of £15m for the 30-year-old.

However, according to Wales Online, Cardiff have quickly moved on to other targets with just nine days of the transfer window remaining.

Deeney has spent the last eight years at Vicarage Road, but the striker has not always been first choice with the Hornets over the past 12 months.
