Lets have Eikrem on for Whittingham and Daehli for Bellamy, should make us more of a threat

Well said. If we can control games like this against lesser teams and have Eikrem and Daehli and Zaha and Jones up top we'll do well. Cant do much now against a United side with quality happy to sit in deep. They scored early and the onus was on us to break them down. I think with Fabio we'll do better as well. Kev has been poor today imo.

Hate watching City "defend".
Tue Jan 28, 2014 9:37 pm
All too well being tippy tappy and passing it backwards.
Shows how much we rely on Jordan Mutch as he's the only one in the entire side who has the balls to have a go.
A centre midfield of Whitts and Medel is probably the most anti football selection Ole could have made.
Disappointed. Even against Utd.

Green Arrow wrote:Yeah we're expected to beat United at OT with Rooney, Van Persie and Mata in their team. A point or more from this game would have been unbelievable. A loss was expected. To control the game for large spells is brilliant and shows something we can add to with Fabio, Jones and Zaha. Lets play the Norwegians in a game we're expected to lose and then one of them gets injured and they're out for our important games. Great idea.
February is when it all starts now. Just deal with it. If you expected something from a game at OT you are mad.
When were RVP and Rooney playing together tonite?

Agree James, we didn't play too badly and when the new signing come into the side we will look alot better again. Got a good run now and its the time for us to start picking up the points.

All the miserable fuckers can say what they want tonight but THAT was very very promising.
Well done lads.

Dhaelie is going to be one hell of an asset for us this season. Needs to start game, would love to see him play of the striker.

I thought we played well aswell, just when ever the opposition have the ball we run back all the time instead of pressing. Frustrates the shit out of me.

Thought we played well. poor final ball in as previously, Bellamy much better 2nd half, daili looks class, just need to put the ball in the net, but it will come.Hudson and Mcnaughton way too slow imo.All in all very positive night, have to remember who and where we were playing.

A goal in each half was enough for Manchester United to secure a 2-0 win over Cardiff City at Old Trafford this evening.
Robin van Persie put the home side ahead just six minutes into the match, heading in from a rebound after Juan Mata, who was making his debut, had looked to set up Ashley Young.

Brilliant effort by the lads tonight. We took it too Man Utd on their own patch and had 54% possession, on another day we could have come away with a point. Nothing could be done about the 2nd goal it was just a well struck ball, nobody would have stopped that. I feel very confident after that performance that we can get out of the relegation zone. The serious business starts Saturday against Norwich and we can certainly win that one

I said team, not first eleven. All three mentioned were in their team and that is a fact. Whether they played together was irrelevant. Those 3 players alone are worth more than our entire team without a doubt.

It was Man U in their own backyard and you want an all out attacking front 6 ???
We're not quite a top 4 team yet mate. As per usual expecting too much too soon.
We had 54% of the possession tonight AT OLD TRAFFORD, give credit for that. If Ole can next sort out the "Shots on Target" by mixing in Kenwyne Jones and Berget we won't be far off giving it a good go.
Notice how I didn't say we'd survive, that's because I'm a realist and not some fantasyland fan who thinks we should walk into the PL with 11 superstars on the pitch and take the league by storm.
We are still odds on to go down and that will not phase me as long as we give it a go. However, IF we go down the previous month on this messageboard will be unbearable as all the fans with weak stomachs throw their dummies out of their prams and sulk in the corner.

Tonight in my opinion some had their chance yet didn't prove themselves. I expect either Kev or John to be dropped for Fabio in the next game. Turner will most likely be back in for Hudson as his hoof ball won't be so bad with Jones up top. Daehli should feature and if the Zaha deal goes through then he'll be on the left. If we control games against the lesser sides like we did at times tonight we'll score. These defenders got CL experience FFS. It was never going to be easy. We just need to move on to the next which are winnable fixtures.

Agreed. But our midfield frustrate me when defending, especially whitts.

I thought Cardiff did good. Played really well at times, but seem a bit impotent in the final third. Thought Dæhli looked good when he came on. Hope Mutch won't be out for too long.
I think Cardiff is improving fast under Solskjær, and it will be very exciting with Jones, Zaha and Fabio on the field. Season starts now guys!

Agree with above. We got to win our next game... No more excuses from anyone!

Lets hope tonight was the last and Ole realises there has to be big changes for the challenge ahead. He now has to ger the selection right or its curtains. No room for musguided sentiment now!

No. Im saying i didn't expect any points but had we they would have been a bonus. We can move on to the next now and we need a minimum of 7 points from 12 in February or we're going back down. Simple as that.

Ive said since we lost to Blackpool Hudson is ok in a pedestrian game and although I've loved naughts he struggled espesaly first half, but I for one thought Whitt's had is best game for ages especially 2nd half, nooney is playing well I just wish he would learn to release the ball at times especially after he's done the hard bit! All in all a good performance but always difficult with Campbell (run his self ragged it must be said) on for 90 as we had no alternative having lost 2 subs through injury.

Good showing from the team today - they are clearly buying into Ole's philosophy. There was far too much standing off the attackers just outside the box though, something tht is going to take OGS a little longer to knock out of them, but the signs are there.
None of us expected anything in January, barring perhaps the West Ham game. Instead, what we've got is several performances where we have been on top and controlled possession. We even went to Man City and ar a good account of ourselves - not many teams can say that this season.
Saturday is must win though, I agree. Problem is, Norwich are stubborn little fuckers and will come looking for a draw. If I was OGS, I'd start with some of our new guys just so Norwich have no idea what to prepare for. Can see Zaha and Jones starting on bench though to be honest.

Feck, what a load of negative nancy's we have on here.
It was never going to be easy after conceding so early, but up until their 2nd goal, an excellent finish after some slack defending from Kev and Noone, we were in the game.
Even their first goal was lucky as the bounce went RVP's way.
We were second best to a very good team, but there were some real postives to take from tonight and one of them is that is the last top team we have to play for a month. Other bottom half teams don't have that luxury.
Some very promising or decent performances, especially from Declan John and the cameo from Daehli.
We don't need a goal of a points haul for this month, just take it a game at a time and make sure we take something from every game if we can.
We need to up our tempo whenever we go forward, because we have been pedestrian in the past and it's getting better, but still needs to improve with much better movement off the ball, plus supporting the man with the ball and where the ball is likely to be played to (something that should be rehearsed and practiced in training).
So often the ball is played to say Campbell and he nods it down and no-one is nearby and the ball goes wasted.
We need to shoot more, for example, the Jacks scored two tonight from heavily deflected attempts.
From what I've seen of OGS, I believe most of these matters are being addressed and February promises to be an exciting month.
Come on fellas, we are not down until it's mathematically impossible to stay and even come the end of March with 6 games left we will either be in a lot better position or still fighting in a similar position with home games against Palace and Stoke and away to Southampton and Sunderland.
Chill out and enjoy the ride because it is going to get really interesting.
