A bet is a paid agreement from both sides. The bet was never made as the proof of payment was refused.

A big gun is a club that consistently challenges for the biggest prize, in the premier leagues case its champions league which is top 4. If someone is consistently 5th then there would be a case for calling them a big gun as long as they didnt flatter to deceive and did actually make it into the top 4 now and again.
