Like a lot of posts on here. Considering more &more schools only teach thru medium of Welsh it's a funny result! And it depends on how people answered. Very subjective? If ask ten people a question and all say same answer but in fact they lied. Get distorted result. Same goes for sensors very distortd figures.

Read the link above, according to the Census, the Welsh language has fallen over the last decade. I think Adam meant to say fallen.

No ! what it is, is that more people who don't speak Welsh has moved into Wales so they are being counted in that census.
More and more people who don't speak Welsh has come to live in Wales and the older welsh speaking people has died so the population has gone up because of the non welsh speakers from other country's. You try get your child into a Welsh speaking school and you will see how hard it is.

There's also increases in the amount of young children speaking Welsh which is surely a good thing.

Any So called Welshman that says Welsh is a dead Language is not a true Welshman. If he was he would do his best and all he can to save the language. Welsh is the oldest of all the European languages, men have lost there lives in defense of this country and its Freedom for the Language.
Welsh school nearly always come out on top of other school, and the kids leave with better chances in life than the standard english school. Thats why so many parents want to try get there kids into Welsh schools.

Why do people send their kids to Welsh schools ? It was quite a middle class wannabe thing to do in the 90's, then mass immigration hammered the education system to the point it was considered the best thing to send them to Welsh mediums schools- not many immigrants want to learn Welsh.

As to the better exam results, as usual statistics can tell you anything. The average salary of parents sending their offspring to Welsh medium schools is higher than those sending theirs to standard state schools. Compare like for like i.e Ysgol Llanharri to Y-Pant and you will see the a truer comparison.

thing is, half of these keep Wales speaking Welsh brigade are clueless. Wales could never survive on its own and the Welsh Language drags it down.
1 reason is because of the extra money and effort that goes into it, instead invest in small businesses, better condition of schools, better jobs.

I work in an organisation that uses agency workers when required & the cv's I read are all the same word for word except for their names & lies about their skills & are full of spelling errors, hope you spell check yours?

I really feel sorry for anyone who works for these agencies, the prices they charge organisations is exorbitant while paying the staff poorly & blackmailing them into attending courses that they pay for.

But is it really dying?
Certainly in older people it is falling (as older people who were fluent in it die).
But in younger people it is growing. I've read one statistic from the census that 30% of welsh speakers are now under 16. Which means teaching it in schools and to young people is working. These young people will grow older, have kids and they will also probably learn Welsh. I'd say the language is in quite a good position as long as grumps like Angry Man are ignored.
