Sat Sep 29, 2012 5:38 pm
I'm going to be honest here,,,,,, he's shit... And that's being politely,,,,
Sat Sep 29, 2012 5:39 pm

Sat Sep 29, 2012 5:39 pm

he holds the ball up and does the ugly job of tieing up the 2 CB'S so others get space.. he did it well today.

Agreed hes not up to it if we had somebody better up there we wouldnt have to rely on others in most games

He did the job he was asked to today.. get off his back why do fans need a scapegoat
Sat Sep 29, 2012 5:47 pm
mate my old man cud play up there and lay the ball off a few times to someone and hes 58 with a dodgy knee , he needs to do alot more than that we are trying to get to the premier league not scrape survival , how can u honestly tell me he had a good game today , i think ill go as far to say id rather rudy up front , heidar runs like hes got cement in his boots , never seen such a slow striker in all my life

Load of nonsense. Watch the game back.
He makes good runs taking players out of position. He holds up play well.
He does the job that ain't pretty and thats why people are making judgement on him. He did the same at QPR which then meant Taarabt could be more useful on the ball dropping into space left. The same is happening here with Whittingham.
Helguson's mental game is class.

Why do some of our fans insist on having a scapegoat?

I can't get my head around it. An excellent team performance and plenty of good individual performances and people want to single out any negative.

what happened to tommy smith??
Sat Sep 29, 2012 5:59 pm
Thought Helgusson did Ok today and I'm not his biggest fan. I thought Mason looked rejuvenated after he went off and played the lone striker role brilliantly. I feel sorry for Etien who wasa warming up all second half as Cowie got the nod again even though we were three up with less than ten minutes to go. We didn't need to kill the match off as Marshall didn't have a save to make all game. He must be wondering if he will ever get an opportunity.

he did it very well today, helgusons play allowed noone and bellers to run at their defence which they couldnt cope with
helguson did absolutely everything that was required from him today and we won 3-0,find it amazing that he could be criticised

Believe me our flair players can't play their game without a battering ram like helguson. I hate to abuse but ppl abusing him obviously don't understand football. He was a premier league player for a reason. His experience is valuable. If you'd rather see us hoof balls to Bellamy in the air and give the possession straight back then I'm sure malky wouldn't be in a job much longer. Fantastic performance by helga and the team!! Bloooobirds

I called it straight away.
Helguson would end up being the new Kenny Miller.
Our fans just love someone to hate, only have to look through years gone by to see this.

we have a system and put the right players in for it. You cant put mason in for Helguson!! they are totally different. Heider does so much work for the team and creates space and takes players out of the game. Wish people would watch the game more and understand things about it.

Why are some people so illiterate and uneducated?

I think he is a right handful and keeps the centre backs occupied.
He is doing a sound job in my opinion
Sat Sep 29, 2012 8:46 pm
I think this thread shows those who appreciate that you can't win a game of Championship football without players who can do the dirty work against those who think we should have 11 Noone's and Mason's on display.
Helguson won virtually everything (was watching him closely today as my mate who has just left Welsh League management was making quite a few comments about him) and by the end we both agreed he'd done very well and won his battle against the 2 centre-halfs convincingly.
Sat Sep 29, 2012 8:46 pm
a player like helgusson is needed to make space for wingers who cut inside
Sat Sep 29, 2012 8:49 pm
He won everything in the air today. How does he get up so high?!
Sat Sep 29, 2012 8:59 pm
Helguson did fairly well today in my opinion, but I do feel for Velikonja.
How Cowie gets the nod to come on ahead of a £1m+ striker who needs time on the pitch is beyond me.
I think I'm right in saying that just one striker (Mason) has scored for us in the league this season. The rest of the goals have come courtesy of Whittingham, Noone, Cowie, Bellamy, Hudson and Connolly. With Maynard now out for a while, we need to find our next goalscoring striker.

Ever thought that sending on a hard-working and solid midfielder to shore things up for the last 10 or so minutes is a sensible thing to do?
Sat Sep 29, 2012 9:59 pm
I'm not his biggest fan. Seems to think his job is to just win flick ons. He should be looking to get into scoring positions, after all he's alleged to be a striker.
Sat Sep 29, 2012 10:05 pm
Oh this is beyond f**king hilarious. Im not the biggest fan of him but we are winning games and hes just doing his job.
Do you expect him to be the same quality as Maynard? You all knew his age and what came with him before hand.
I remember when everyone was moaning about Conway when we went something like 2 months unbeaten and everyone was having a go at him.
