A forum for all things Cardiff City

UPDATED 8pm 20th Sept 2012.
The Cardiff City medical team have this evening confirmed fears that the injury suffered by Nicky Maynard at Millwall on Tuesday night will see the striker out of action for a number of months.
"Nicky has a torn anterior cruciate ligament, an injury that requires surgery," Cardiff City Head of Performance Richard Collinge said this evening.
"He will remain under the care of a local orthopaedic specialist and the Cardiff City medical team, working through a substantial rehabilitation programme with the goal of returning to first team action when possible. Instances such as this can see varied recovery times and we will do everything to support and guide Nicky through the rehabilitation process. The player has the backing of all of us at the club and we all wish him a speedy recovery, coming back stronger than ever."

Nicky Maynard is ruled out for a minimum of one month with his knee injury sustained in the win at Millwall on Tuesday, it is probable that he will be out for some time longer than that though due to the nature of his injury.
Lets put it this way its not good news and personally I dont expect him back on the pitch for quite a long time, be hopeful before Xmas at best.

I'll take that, after all the fears we had.
Don't forget it's the international break in three weeks too.

is it Ligament damage Carl ?
Thu Sep 20, 2012 11:55 am
Difficult to be precise I suppose but is the feeling that it will not end his season?
Thu Sep 20, 2012 11:57 am
to be fair this isnt any news. it was always going to be at least a month. A whole season is longer than a month so i guess we will just have to wait and see
Thu Sep 20, 2012 11:58 am
Hopefully, it won't disrupt us too much, if at all, what with the squad we have now. He's really impressed me, so far and that's without scoring a goal! Mind you, both goals against Leeds were connected to him.
Good luck, Nicky Maynard and come back soon!

Not much info in that TBH.

I don't think city will say anyway I don't blame them
Thu Sep 20, 2012 12:25 pm
If he was out for season the club would just say so.

Exactlly why would they cover up a player being injured for that long a time
Thu Sep 20, 2012 12:38 pm
Not very good info that, Just saying what we know, What is the injury?
Thu Sep 20, 2012 12:44 pm
Nicky has Twisted his knee and Bruised his PCL. The scan has shown no tear, but the area is severely swollen and bruised.
Posterior cruciate ligament injury
Injury to this ligament is not as common as an ACL injury. This is because the PCL is wider and stronger than the ACL. There are a number of ways that the PCL can become injured. For example, it may be injured during a car accident if the front of your bent knee hits the dashboard. It may also be injured from falling on to your bent knee. Your PCL can also be injured if your knee is hit from the front whilst your leg is stretched out in front of you with your foot on the ground - for example, during a game of football.
4-6 weeks Rest then 2-3 weeks light training before any serious physical training can be applied.

I think its best to just assume he will be out for 2 months. Really unlucky for him, but at least we have quality in Bellamy to fill his boots!
Best of luck with the recovery Nicky!

Time for Velikonja to shine, too, maybe?

Yeah 2 months is probable, pending on any set backs. I'm sure our medical team will sort him out

I have heard Carl, the club will say they are hopeful that Maynard will start to recover within the next month or so, but the real picture is, its a few months, not good at all.

Surely we would make a loan move for a striker in the current loan window. Otherwise I dont know why Malky has allowed Earnie on a season long loan especially with the loss of Maynard.
That leaves us with Mason, Helguson, Velikonja, Gestede (Whos injury prone) and Bellamy
Could we be playing 4-5-1 again?

Annis, i can live with two months, at first, when i heard it on the radio i thought he was out for the season, it gives others to make a claim for maynards place, have a quick recovery nicky

Amen to that. Let's see how much strength we actually have in this squad
Thu Sep 20, 2012 1:50 pm
two months is fine by me. could have been a lot worse
Thu Sep 20, 2012 2:09 pm
Don't think we'll see him till Christmas. Shame because he's done well up to know.
Looking forward to seeing Velikonja get a run but think it will be Helguson on his own up top against Palace.

If Maynard is out for october/November - it will be like making a new fresh signing come december/January and can spur the team on - i know it's not good to have nicky out injured, but we have helguson, Velikonja, Mason and Bellamy as strike force. I don't believe we need any more strikers or loans at this stage tbh.

Then even after that, there's still match fitness to gain.
Oh well, when the going get's tough.....
