Yma O Hyd - Our New Song

Personally, I love this song. It's been played at Wales games before and down the City.

The chorus has Yma O Hyd in it which rhymes with Cardiff City. So maybe we should think of a good little song to fit in with this.

Maybe something along the lines of...

(this is the chorus bit where it starts Yma O Hyd)

We're Cardiff City!!!
We're Cardiff City!!!
We'll always follow the Bluebirds!
We'll always follow the Bluebirds!
We'll always follow the Bluebirds, we're Cardiff City!

Can one of the big voices in the Canton get this going? :ayatollah:

Love the idea of this, although being a welsh club it would be nice to have the keep the yma o hyd part. Maybe something like;

Ry'n ni yma o hyd
Ry'n ni yma o hyd
We're still Cardiff City
We're still Cardiff City
We're still Cardiff Cityyyyyyyyy
Ry'n ni yma o hyd

I'd like to keep the "Ry'n ni yma o hyd" because it roughly translates as "we're still here" and is a great response to those saying Cardiff City is dead and no more :ayatollah:

Agree 100% as it's a fantastic song and would be unique to us, but i think the Welsh words need to broken down phonetically for the more anglicised supporters. Always like to see you pop up on all the threads about creating a better atmosphere and the introduction of new songs. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Posted the exact same thing last week(ish) with similar words. I think it is a great response to the 'you're not Cardiff anymore' chants that we are going to face for the rest of eternity. Spread the word! :ayatollah:

It's fairly easy to pick up the words just by listening to it, I guess an accurate phonetic spelling would be;

REE NEE AMMA OH HEETH.

It's so simple yet so powerful a Welsh phrase. I think it's perfect. Haha thanks moonboots, it's what I do best constantly making nagging threads about getting songs started  eventually some of the voices of the canton see it and try get them started at the back :ayatollah: I believe Yma o hyd should pick up pretty quick just because its easy and effective.

Now we just need those "conductors" at the front to get the fans going like the big European clubs have. :ayatollah:

English translation.

We are still here x2
Despite the worst of everyone and everything x3
We are still here x2
Despite the worst of everyone and everything x3
We are still here

Dont see why we cant just sing the original words in Welsh. No point chucking in We're still Cardiff City, sounds shit in my opinion.

Ry'n ni yma o hyd, x2
Er gwaetha pawb a phopeth, x3
Ry'n ni yma o hyd, x2
Er gwaetha pawb a phopeth,x3
Ry'n ni yma o hyd.

A good way to get a new song started would be for:

1. A small team to get together to come up with some song/chant ideas

2. Get some more volunteers to join in singing the new songs and chants while someone videos the event (perhaps the Club would let the recording take place inside the stadium.

3. Put the recordings on youtube and flag it up on here for forum users to learn them.

4. Small groups to start the songs/chants at our games by which time more and more fans will have seen the youtube footage so will be familiar with them. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Pretty certain that the Scarlets sing this song at home matches in Welsh, but I can't see that as a problem!

Great song and great chant, wish it'd get going though, Men of Harlech is like a war cry when away fans come here but Yma O Hyd shows our passion.

don't know why we would change the words, just sounds cheesy when its changed!... just get everyone to learn it and break down the welsh words into parts so even non welsh speakers can sing it!... don't see why the club can't publish it in the programme, they wrote down the whole song to 'men of harlech' in the wolves programme so should do it for this one!

I believe that they sing Sospan Fach after they score a try and Yma O Hyd after a conversion!

The crowd sing Sospan Fach during the game and I'm not sure whether they sing Yma O Hyd during the game, other than to make more noise when it's being played after a conversion! :ayatollah:

This is a huge Scarlets song, not bigger than Sosban Fach.

Very powerful chant that I would love us to sing! :ayatollah:

They wrote down the words in the Huddersfield programme too, people just aren't bothered to learn them. They're just happy to OHHH UHHH AH AH grunt it out. Which not only sounds ridiculous but utterly embaressing. If our fans can't be bothered to learn a few words in ENGLISH then we really have no hope of them learning some WELSH ones . I applaud the attempt the club is making by printing the lyrics, maybe people need to be more aware that they're in there it would take 2 minutes to learn.

As for the Yma o Hyd, I agree it would be better to just sing the chorus in Welsh, but then the away fans wouldn't have a clue what we're chanting about. We need to throw in the odd "Cardiff City" in there just so they can understand

REE NEE AMMA OH HEETH [x2]
AIR GWAY THIGH POWB UH FOH PETH [x3]
REE NEE AMMA OH HEETH [x2]

Even someone who has never spoken welsh before should be able to say that, phonetically spelt out  :ayatollah: C'mon lads. We're a welsh team, we need some welsh chants!

we do have lazy fans tbh  and the club should let everyone know they're in there! but with men of harlech they play the chorus and then onto the next song, why?! just leave the whole song on for us to sing!... and on your point about the away fans not knowing what we're singing? do they have to know?

Good one this and good on you Zabier and anyone else who makes a suggestion on how we can improve the atmosphere at the CCS. Its down to us and the performances as we will never see home/away fans next to each other IMO (more's the pity!).

I don't speak Welsh fluently (more's the pity again) but I have a feeling that the Welsh lyrics would be better (opposing fans would have to look 'em up and also our own that don't use this forum). Someone gave a translation earlier and you know, I think it's a fitting message and a powerful tune too.

Usually, the best counter to a wind-up chant is a better wind-up chant but best still, the old ironic joining-in i.e. sheep, sheep, sheep shaggers topped with 1-0 to the sheep shaggers etc always shuts them up. Spurs are the same with the yids chant vs other London clubs.

Regarding how we get this going....and it's only an idea so don't shoot me down on the tech front.........I've always thought that it maybe a good idea to start some sort of twitter list so that at some dynamic point within the game (when we all should be chanting but too spread out throughout the ground as usual) that a tweet goes out that we should be chanting/singing etc. Just a thought on how we can synchronise across the CCS. (we can attach an IP driven motor to Vince's arms so we have a drum machine!).

I'm concious that we do need more unique chants and songs cos we've always been f*cking great and just about to become much f*cking greater.

One more suggestion, can we raise £500 to sky-write "Leeds - We Can Smell You From Up Here And You Fecking Stink You Ugly Dirty Bastards" - I know a bloke from Rhoose flying club. :ayatollah:

Brilliant idea, great song!

I've always thought that a version of Fields of at henry would also work for us, real passion. something along the lines.

Low lie the fields of Riverside
Where once I saw the proud Bluebirds fly
Now Bellamy is king
And Noone is on the wing
There'll be glory round the fields of riverside
