Jay Bothroyd

Mon Sep 03, 2012 4:46 pm

Hello, Wednesday fan here.

We've signed Bothroyd on loan until January, just wondering what your opinion on him is? Obviously i presume he was well liked down here and he scored goals for you, what type of player can we expect? One of the best strikers in the divison, or do you still call him Jay 'not' Bothered.

On a side note, Dave Jones's first defeat on Saturday, but he's brought in what seem to be really good players on quite a restricted budget compared to the likes of Cardiff who have spent alot and we've started well. Got a good feeling about him, do you think he can keep the good form going?

Good luck this season.

Really? That suprises me, i thought DJ did well for you as with Bothroyd. Just couldn't quite get you promoted, which must have been frustrating.

if he plays like he did for us hes quality in this division mate and hopefully dave jones wont bottle it for you lot like he did for us after xmas each year

Re: Jay Bothroyd

Mon Sep 03, 2012 4:55 pm

Jay is a quality player, but he tends to go missing in games and likes sitting on the grass

Re: Jay Bothroyd

Mon Sep 03, 2012 4:57 pm

He's a quality player and can get you a goal from nothing, that's the pros, the major con with Jay is he goes down far to easily, refs soon learn to ignore him.

I got a feeling he'll do a good job for your lot though!

Best of luck with your season mate!

Pre England call up he was outstanding. Then after his 1 cap his ego sky rocketed and he was shit.

He loves falling over, a poor mans drogba.

As for DJ. Come back after oct/nov and tell us what u think of him then lol

Best striker in the league but he's hard to like for most fans because of he appears lazy and goes down far too easily. :ayatollah:

Very gifted, quite quick & skilful for a big guy...... Will have you off your feet for many reasons, his brilliance (yes), his laziness and my biggest bug bare with him was when he was out on the wing crossing the ball when he should be the player in middle waiting to receive.
I still would have taken him back mind.....but not know, more than happy with our signings :ayatollah:

Re: Jay Bothroyd

Jay Jay Bothroyd. Well one thing that he is consistent with and he has done it all through his career and i cant see him changing for Sheffield Wed.
He will start of on fire and he will score plenty of goals for you. Your Fans will love him that's for sure and he will love you. You will come on here and tell us we don't know what we are on about.  Then after about 6 months maybe 4 you will notice he is starting to spend a lot of his time sat on his arse whilst waving his arms about in the air. He will start to get lazy and he will at every point shout at the bench to take him off because he will say he's injured, at that point DJ will start screaming at him and wave for him to get back on the pitch. You lot will start screaming at the lazy git. Then you will come back on this board and tell us we was spot on.  We recently had a QPR fan called Stan on here, and will agree with everything i said. Because he came back on here saying what do we know, then came back with his tail between his legs saying "You lot were right" :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: Jay Bothroyd

Mon Sep 03, 2012 5:05 pm

Jay is a special player at this level but he is also a confidence player and I wonder if his confidence has been affected by his experience at QPR. On his day Jay can be unplayable at this level but on other days he can go missing bigtime. Hopefully he won't treat his time on loan with you as a holiday because sometimes that can happen with loan players, we had first hand experience with Bywater. :o

Dave Jones did well for us and no one could doubt that but he failed year after year to get us over the line. Invariably his teams do well until November, then have a poor December / January and fall away. That was the case when he was at Wolves as well as here at Cardiff but his teams don't do relegation which is a positive.

I always thought he was a miserable scouse tw*t who would pick an arguement with anyone and everyone when things start going badly. A run of poor results and that aspect of his personality will surface.

id be more concerned with your manager, he continually gave us 10 or 12 games unbeaten, then would do the exact opposite, 10 games without win.

i was sometghing which happened each and every year.

Re: Jay Bothroyd

Mon Sep 03, 2012 5:09 pm

If DJ can get his head right he still has the quality to do a fantastic job for you. He does however tend to go missing and end up on his arse a lot. I have to agree that whilst being an excellent manager for us DJ was a right miserable so and so who made no effort to get a relationship with the fans or press going.

Re: Jay Bothroyd

Mon Sep 03, 2012 5:13 pm

Lazy, massive ego, thinks he's world class because he played for England, falls over all the time.

Bothroyd should have been a world beater but his attitude stinks.

So glad he's gone. Now we have hard working forwards instead of a whinging diver like Jay. :ayatollah:

Re: Jay Bothroyd

Mon Sep 03, 2012 5:15 pm

Agreed with all above, think it's been missed out, Jay Bothroyd will tweet his injury worries and say how shit your pitch is as well

Re: Jay Bothroyd

Mon Sep 03, 2012 5:33 pm

Jay was fantastic here the majority of the time, but certain aspects of his play let him down over and over again. He started his final season here perfectly, but became shoddy as soon as he returned from England duty against France.

Honestly think DJ will do well with Wednesday. Decent manager (we wouldn't be where we are without him), and believe he's signed a number of top players for you - Michail Antonio the best of the lot.

Best of luck for the season.

Re: Jay Bothroyd

Bothroyd is a class act and I'd have taken him hear in a heartbeat.
He doesn't score buckets of goals but does have a gd strike on him. Very good technically and a good footballing brain and uses the ball very well. The players around him will benefit massively. I think he is a great loan signing for you.

As for Dave Jones, a good manager. Yes he can be stubborn but I think most managers are. I suppose it defends what your targets are for the season. He doesn't handle pressure to well IMO and his teams to tend to fall away at the final hurdle.

Summary I think both will do well for you this season. Solid mistable pushing for the play/offs maybe?

Re: Jay Bothroyd

Jay, is a quality player and prob in the top 5 players in the championship, but lazy and has got the wrong attitude and thats why he fails in the Premier league.

Re: Jay Bothroyd

DAVE Jones is looking for an impact from new boys Jay Bothroyd and Martin Taylor as the Owls bid to pick themselves up after the manager’s 17-match unbeaten run was ended at Crystal Palace.

Jones will spend the international break working on ways to fine tune his side - with defending one of the issues after two goals were conceded in a game for the fifth time this season.

Bothroyd, on loan from QPR, and centre half Taylor, signed from Watford, were not handed instant debuts after their signings late on Friday.

“Jay didn’t do too well at QPR; he knows that,” said Jones, who was Bothroyd’s boss at Cardiff when he won his England cap. “He’s got to get his career up and running again.

“He’s got a good opportunity here. He has to fight for his place like everybody else. We have good competition. If he delivers what he’s good at, we’ve got a very, very good player.”

When asked whether the 30-year-old could get another England cap, Jones said: “That’s up to Jay. There are players who have done it who never thought they’d get another one.

“He’s certainly got the ability. But he just didn’t kick on. For whatever reason that is, I don’t know. But their loss is hopefully my gain again.

“He’s got a lot of work to do, and he knows that. He’s a super lad. He’s got a good talent. Hopefully I can press the right buttons again with him.”

Taylor was on the bench on Saturday. Jones said: “We were surprised they [Watford] let him go. We needed another centre half with a bit of experience and organisation; he’s certainly got that.”

Jones admitted the Owls will work at defending: “It’s a very fine line, because we don’t want to stop our attacking prowess. We need a bit more care. The longer we’re together, the more we’ll get that.

“It’s very difficult for me to knock them, because they’ve been absolutely superb.

“But when you lose a game you’re annoyed and it’s normally a mistake that’s cost you a goal. We made too many. They’re the things we’ll be working at, as a well as still going forward.”

Let's hope Jay doe's the business on the pitch! :)
In Dave Jones I Trust! ;) :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

class player but he does like a little rest during games''on his arse'' but o would love him back here in a flash

Re: Jay Bothroyd

Mon Sep 03, 2012 5:53 pm

Jay Bothroyd? I would take him back despite what we got now always loved him.
He tore this league apart and I think he didn't get lots of goals to start as we had Chopra and McCormack.
He grew better and better each season.
Some fans constant give jip because he went Qpr and that but at the end of the day every player wants to better hiself and wants to play there. Even the money talked hugely there. He didn't make it but I didn't blame him. He was top of his game and we failed with one of our strongest teams under DJ and on paper the team cried out automatic.
He scored some great goals and hes great in the air.
He did often sit on his arse and complain but when hes at his best hes quality.
He got injured somewhere in November and December in 2010 and he was out for ages. We missed him badly and lost quite a few games without him and when he came back he picked up where he left off scoring against Watford and Reading.

His link up play in some big games was brilliant. He assissted Chops against Swansea in our 2-1 win. He done it in the play offs vs Leicester. :ayatollah:

Re: Jay Bothroyd

Mon Sep 03, 2012 6:08 pm

You got a great player there, but he can be lazy & also loves a moan..

Re: Jay Bothroyd

Mon Sep 03, 2012 6:10 pm

When Jay learns to play without his roller skates on he will be world class but until then he will spend too much time on his arse gesticulating his arms in the air after falling over.

On his day he's top class in this league but his weakness is he lacks bottle for the big occasions and if defenders get at him he will become anonymous in games. He can be breathtaking and frustrating all within an instant.

Re: Jay Bothroyd

Mon Sep 03, 2012 6:18 pm

You can expect an improvement with bothroyd in your side, he may help you push on and grab an extra 10 points this season

expect one of 2 things he may relish the opportunity
or his confidence may be shot after failing to deliver in the premiership and hel be a shadow of the player he once was

Re: Jay Bothroyd

Mon Sep 03, 2012 6:18 pm

Jay is quality, but as everyone says goes missingin games.Dave Jones rarely subbed him when he was off his game.As for Mr Jones he done a good job for us but get ready for when he has a bad spell and your local rag gets on his back he wont talk to anybody ;)

Re: Jay Bothroyd

Mon Sep 03, 2012 6:21 pm

Could be one of the best signings in years. The lad has got it all...... except consistancy.

He's a lazy b*stard with a massive ego. So glad he did shit at QPR!

How he called up for England I don't know...

he(jay) will let you down when you need him the most unfortunately and knows what he can and what he cant get away with having drove jones and city fans mad with his lazy antics, let us down big time 2 seasons ago as he knew full well hed be leaving city for the premiership whatever happened

I fully respect what dave jones did at cardiff hes very good at working within a budget, knows the league well and usually sets his teams out to play attractive flowing football, his weakneses are his stubborness and his inability at times to control the dressing room and get his players on the same page when things are going bad.

Re: Jay Bothroyd

Mon Sep 03, 2012 6:57 pm

Been a long time since we've had a player of this quality on our books, i'm very excited indeed. So it seems as if he's a confidence player, nothing we're not used to, Dave Jones seems to get the best out of these sort of players who like a sulk though doesn't he? We've got Gary Madine and Jermaine Johnson both confidence players and they've been fantastic under DJ so far, espeically JJ who seems to FINALLY have found some consistency.

As for DJ, i see where you come from with interviews and local journalists. He was so awkward to interview pre season, would never comment on a player and sometimes seemed reluctant to tell the fans stuff they want to know, he keeps his cards close to his chest. Also on Saturday, we for the first time saw the moaning side of him if you like, he told the officials that they need to take a course in refereeing again and really laid into them. If it wasn't a man all Wednesdayites worship we'd be quite appaled by his behaviour IMO. About the connection with the fans, so far i'd disagree with you there, he is always praising the fans and the fans are very much on his side, i suppose that may change when things go against us. Sometimes not to have a close relationship with the fans is good, Megson had a real rapport with the fans and that didn't work out in the end.

Cardiff are one of my favourites for promotion, quality all over the pitch and spent money on what look like top players. One question, how have you managed to keep hold of Whittingham all these years? Could play in the premier league easily right? Been very loyal to Cardiff, have to respect him for that.
