Defeat by lowly Northampton, we should go out to win every game in my eyes and before everyone says anything I honestly don't believe we lost promotion last season because of our amazing run.
Let's hope we start with a Win on Friday night.

Completely agree, would of loved to still be in the cup but onwards and upwards. The team can give a real hammering to Huddersfield friday now

I hate it when City loose and today is no exception. However, this maybe blessing in disguise.
Postitives
o Youngsters given some valuable experience.
o Helguson get's off to a goal scoring start.
o Joe Mason get's some game time.
o No distractions now, only the Championship to play for (until the FA Cup).

we should have been strong enough to beat northampton

Timing of this game is shocking though Annis.
Internationals tomorrow and a game Friday.
I personally think MM should have rested a few more. Shame we are out but if they want the cup treated with respect they need to sort out the fixtures.
Tue Aug 14, 2012 8:50 pm
Agree Annis, IMO the cup run strengthened the squad and helped them gel, although the Semis and final may have been too much. But we didn't gain promotion last season simply because We had too small a squad and Malky didn't use what was there for him to use.
This year we have a bigger and better squad which IMO could have handled a few extra games. Unlikely we'll have one of those 'memorable nights' at CCS this year like we did last season

i can see were you are comming from but there is a positive now atleast we can concentrate on the league

I am not bothered by tonight's defeat Annis, as I am sure you will remember I felt it was better for us last year to go out in the early rounds, don't get me wrong I'll never forget the amazing day at Wembley and especially the moment when Turner equalised but there is only one goal this year and it doesn't include a cup run for me.

annis, with the internationals 2moro and our league game friday, we had no choice but to put out the very young side tonight.. last yr v oxford, we had a slightly more experienced team which got us through..
this season the league must take priority and a win on friday with 3 pts will overshadow this game tonight.... did we really reep that much from the carling cup run last yr? i agree we should look to win every game, and i believe malky thought the 11 he put out and changed was capable of doing so... had it fin 1-1 or 2-2 in normal time i think we would then have beaten them in extra time...
bread and butter this yr is league....

im not arsed about tonight tbh we had eight players away tonight the four 1st team players that started tonight will no doubt be on the bench friday i guess, so im not grumbling about tonights result with the kids put out there they have to play at some point if there going to become regs in years to come the way i see it and we wont have the knocks and players getting over run with games either. Focus on the league i say. Annis we didnt lose promotion last season because of a cup run its because we didnt have the numbers for it all that went out the window after jan as we all know we needed 3-4 more good players but thats gone now

Disagree annis of course its not good being eliminated from the cup but now we focus on the main aim which is the competitive league

how can 8 kids under 20 expect to beat experienced team no matter what league they are in!
Tue Aug 14, 2012 8:57 pm
Not bothered in the slightest, we've had our fun in the league cup, promotion this season,f**k a cup run, just
my opinion
Tue Aug 14, 2012 8:59 pm
We had our run last year, now its time for the likes of Brum, Ipswich, Forest or Leicster to waste their time and energy on the League Cup or whatever its called these days.

Don't like city losing but this may benefit us in the champinship - particulary if some of our competitors are still in the Cap One!!
Tue Aug 14, 2012 9:16 pm
Not me, it would have been nice to win but only for the youngster to play another game. The cup run for me did impact on us, against West Ham at home in the league the players with visibly shattered and mentally. Onto the league this season and hope the FA Cup is not take to seriously either
Tue Aug 14, 2012 9:30 pm
I disagree
MM had no other choice but to play the players he did,
The Cobblers were a better team and deserved their victory!
We passed it well but a lack of experience showed and in the end conways slip from a free kick summed up the game apart from the first twenty minutes.
Tue Aug 14, 2012 9:42 pm
At the end of the game, only 3 players were over 20. And how many times has this team played together? only positives to take from this I think, As I disagree with you annis in that the cup run led to the increased fatigue of our squad last season, how could it not. Even the players admitted that.
Tue Aug 14, 2012 9:43 pm
Not at all worried by the defeat . The league as to be our priority and Huddersfield will be a tough nut to crack as they will be on a crest of a wave after getting promoted last season .
Tue Aug 14, 2012 9:45 pm
That was nearly a third string and a cup run ALWAYS affects a small squads form.
Semi and final last year devastated our season.
This year I want no cup runs and a poor start to the season. We always have a decent start and then fall away. Let's be the team that builds up through the First half of the season and then storms it in the second half.
Tue Aug 14, 2012 9:48 pm
A little bit dissapointed but at least we ent got a distraction.
Let other teams in this division get through the rounds.
The youngsters all got a chance to get the feel of a competitive game and this is a learning curve for them.
Nothing embarassing it was only 1 goal.
I do believe the final was the only distraction for me.. the players didn't put the full effort in some games and kept theirselfs clean for the final..
At least the heads on are on and will be on the league without any other things distracting us!

Northampton are no mugs in this cup, just look at their results over the last few seasons
Tue Aug 14, 2012 9:51 pm
There's always the fa cup to have a cup run in
Tue Aug 14, 2012 9:55 pm
I feel more saddened by the ridiculous fixtures. International football, league cup and Championship fixture. All in a matter of 4 days
I do feal bellars and our nice rested army will be ripping Huddersfield a nicy shiny and brand new bum hole!!'

Ok then, does this show we have not got strength in depth in our squad, rem Northampton are 4th Division and are always struggling ?

Hard to persuade decent players to sign for us when they won't even be on the bench for 90% of the season.
