" PRE-SEASON UPDATE Sunday 12th August 2012 "

Sun Aug 12, 2012 2:08 pm

The club are confident of bringing in two players next week and possibly even three.

If successful two of the three will be squad players and one will be a 'first 11' player.

One of the players is a young defender from a PL club but you can rule out Martin Kelly and Dedryck Boyate, names previously mentioned on here.

City are playing a waiting game regarding Tommy Smith and Nicky Maynard, both their respective clubs want to bring in players first before either will be allowed to move on and Maynard has to sort out a compensation package with West Ham before bidding can commence but both are certainly on the radar for us.

The club want to move two players on, Keinan and Taiwo, but there has been little interest in the pair and they are on considerably high wages.

Malky wants Darcy Blake to remain at the club and Darcy wishes to stay as well.

Kim Bo Kyung has returned to Korea to sort out paperwork for his work permit and will not be back in time for the Huddersfield game and it is doubtful he will be here for Brighton either.

The triangular flags will return for the Huddersfield game.

Vincent Tan agreed to the Blues scratching their lease from the stadium for as little as a couple of million pounds but they had to pay more money than that to certain sponsors and Premier seat holders who signed deals for the dual sports and those who signed up for the rugby alone.

Personally I am glad to have a football stadium and to see the back of the rugby.

Can see the young defender being someone like Carl Jenkinson, assuming we still have affiliate links with Arsenal.

I'd put my money on Danny Wilson. 20 years old, plays for Liverpool, plays both CB and LB and he's Scottish.

I can see Vuckic coming in on loan and if Darcy wants to stay and Malky wants him to, why didn't he sign a new contract when offered?

What sort of player do you think the "first 11 player" will be???

Maybe because the contact offered wasnt good enough? He has the right to ask for an acceptable wage

Right back hopefully. McNaughton looked our poorest player yesterday and we really need some decent competition for him.

He's been consistent over the years, but his form could drop right off and he'd still keep his place as it stands.

I would be disappointed if one of them was Vuckic, because he was found lacking last year on loan, and he did nothing yesterday. Maybe that's why Pardrew played him, to loan him out.

Re: PRE-SEASON UPDATE

Wouldn't it be easier to terminate the contracts of Taiwo and Keinan or is it too much?

Re: PRE-SEASON UPDATE

Sun Aug 12, 2012 2:34 pm

Is it only me who thinks we don't need Maynard? We have Mason, Earnie, Gestede, Velikonja and Helguson, all capable of producing at this level and Maynard would probably want high wages.
I'm not too fussed on Tommy Smith either. As wide players we have Bellamy, Kim, Conway, Cowie, Whittingham. Ralls and Mason can also play wide midfield so once again I don't think we really need him.
Cover in defence is necessary though as we only have Darcy and Keinan capable at this level

Re: PRE-SEASON UPDATE

Fully agree with you Canton jack, except for one thing, I think we do need a prolific goal scorer up front, but not Maynard.

Earnie and Rudy definitely not good enough at the top level of the championship! We need a proven goalscorer up front!

Completely diasagree, I thought Kev was good yesterday. however my man of the match was Hudson, he was solid at the back

As Carl said 1 of the players coming in will be in our first 11, So is Danny Wilson /a defender that player or are we looking at a striker?, it will be interesting to see what sort of player MM wants for the first 11...

All opinions, however Kev hit about 6 loose passes and got done for their penalty. Thats not good enough.

Kev as usual promised much but delivered little in the way of quality passes. He needs to get his head up when he runs as goes down blind alleys. Vuckic was their best player yesterday.

def not... has a terrible ego, turns up for training pissed and has lost form... wasted his opp and the prem league went straight to his head..

Re: PRE-SEASON UPDATE

Could one of the 'squad' players be Liam Lawrence on a free?

The 'young' defender could well be first eleven; maybe a quicker centre back, or one that can play full back....

As for the third, as mentioned, maybe Vuckic. But probably another one that nobody has ever heard of, which isn't necessarily a bad thing!
