Olympics - what a pity

Fri Aug 03, 2012 9:49 pm

Fully agree fella --- it's a disgrace we have to put up with that pathetic anthem that has 100% nothing to do with Wales, and don't start me on that shite 'union my arse' flag.

CYMRU AM BYTH!! …………She's not and will never be Wales's queen as she's not WELSH.

Im proud to be British, Id rather stand shoulder to shoulder with the English, Scots and Northern Irish
than be a Republican state with no backbone that harbors terrorists and Nazis like the Irish have done and
did in WW2.

Wales is part of Britain, get over it or f**k off somewhere else.

Olympics has been brilliant, proud of all the Team GB athletes!

All this Welsh nationism.....get real lads, you've only got to drive around Ireland to see what independence gets you....

Apologies Ninian, didnt read your post properly.

Assumes it was the usual 'there is no dragon on the flag comment'

As for the, it may aswell be a Spanish flag, I realy dont think you mean that do you.

Just to let you know there wouldn't be a dragon on there anyway, if anything it would be a yellow cross as the flag is made up of the cross of the saint of each country, St George, St Andrew and St Patrick.

Got to be honest that would look absolutely awful adding yellow onto the union flag.

I still dont get the moaning of it all. If you dont want to be British why are you complaining that we arent represented surely you would be happy that we arent?

Re: Olympics - what a pity

For those who are not aware, I'm sure some people may not be, the reason that Wales is not represented on the Union flag is that it was created to represent Britains COUNTRIES at the time, those countries being England and Scotland, Wales was or possibly still is (unsure) a principality and Northern Ireland a province.

Reclassifying Wales as a country was still being debated last year, not sure what the resolution was.

and that chaps is why we aren't on that flag.

I don't think this is true, as Owain Glyndwr in the 15th Century had a red dragon on a white background on his flag and Henry Tudor had the Welsh flag as we now know it at Bosworth - both before the Union flag was made after the union of Scotland and England (where it was only the Cross of St Andrew and the Cross of St Geaorge that made up the initial Union flag). The union flag was then changed to add in the Cross of St. Patrick later to become as we know it today.

This is the way I've always understood it, unless you can point to any evidence that contradicts that.
