As soon as they amalgamated the 23rd/24th/41st (RRW/RWF) it was always on the cards it would end up as one battalion.

Got to laugh about when history of our club is talked about on here though, it's a drop in the ocean in comparison to the Regimental one. (although I would love to stay blue etc) It's only over a colour.
Hundreds of years and many many battles where thousands of lives were given for the units.

1 infantry Battalion left in Wales, Labour started it with the amalgamation of RRW /RWF and Tories are completing the destruction of 3 hundred odd years of history & proud tradition .F**king disgraceful .

Its just another cut back we can ill afford and its disgraceful.

I am utterly devastated by this, so much history and tradition hung out to dry, this not just ends 2R WELSH, but the memories of the South Wales boarders, "Zulu", The Welch regiment, and latter the Royal Regiment of Wales.

Ifor one had the privalige of serving with them as a proud welshman for 23 yrs, and i feel betrayed for the the current boys carrying on our proud history,,,

The Irony of it is, you tune into any commercial radio station, Talksport for example, and all you hear is the MAJOR recruitment campaign ongoing with the TA!

They want to rely on the TA, what a joke, no disrespect to them, they have a role in any operation, but you need the majority of your rank and file to be Regs

It was the previous government that caused the black hole in MOD finances. Alleged £38 mbillion was missing when the audit was done. So this government had to account for that with its current budgets.

Also we will need less of an army as this government does not go lookung for wars and countries to attack, unlike Labour.

We were warned in 2006 the year of the amalgamation with the RWF, THAT in 10yrs from then there would probally be only one Battalion, well its taken 6 yrs for that decision to be made, it is gut wrenching, but a clear sign of the times.

As a previous poster said about The big recruitment drive for the TA, this was always going to happen after the first cull back then, cost custing they call it, why pay 20,000 regs 365 of the year when they pay the TA as when they are needed.

The TA do a sterling job no doubt about it, their role as changed dramaticly that is why it is so clear to see why westminster are going down this road. It seems sentiment, history and tradition count for nothing, its all about the fatcats and cash.

spot on there, because the TA will do the same job with no prospect of a pension, i had a letter 8 mths ago asking me to join the TA, i almost choked, but that would have meant another regular soldier on the dole, they are targeting EX regs to join, no need for training ect. PENNY PINCHING GITS.

Agree the MOD budget should not be cut. What is the point of good services when you cannot defend yourselves.
My problem with it is too many pen pushers in Whitehall who should go first. But how many regiments are full (numbers wise)?
Probably very few. Kids today are too lazy, and the standard of fitness in general is appalling, as is the education standards to use the high tech equipment. So they only use of a lot of these youngsters is as cannon fodder.

Very true, especially about Blair. As you may tell, I prefer Labour (even though they're shite) over the fuckwards, but Bush and Blair were scary, I genuinely thought a World War would kick off. Christ could imagine if they were still in power? Guaranteed Tehran would've been nuked by now, a new Cold War with the Chinese, good grief.

Yet again the military get shafted, particulary the army.

My old regiment the RWF were amalgated in the previous reforms and are now 1st Royal Welsh.

The politicians expect our soldiers to fight THEIR wars without the necessary support or equipment..........then when they come home in a box they sit in parliament going "here here" in a false show of caring.

More to the point why cut a battalion that is well manned, certain regiments will remain who cannot get their full compliment of soldiers, particularly in scotland - political reasons there methinks!!!

The 2nd are mech infantry which Whitehall will want to keep.
