A forum for all things Cardiff City

I understand Cardiff City matched the offer of Wolves for Bjorn Sigurdarson, we also matched the wages too, the player chose Wolves.
It is alleged that the agent played a big part in making the move to Molinuex materialise and that the agent was very happy with his part of the deal.
Our manager is working hard to bring the right type of player into the club, I have faith we will see the fruition of the hard work and patience.

Sorry Carl but yet again Malky and the inept idiots on the board fail to "Sell" Cardiff City to a top target.
Say what you like about Jones abd the Riddler they knew how to sell Citys vision.
I have no faith in the likes of Whitley and Borley whatsoever. Out of their depth.
Sun Jun 17, 2012 10:53 am
Early days yet, as fans we need to be patient.

TBH would you want to live in South Wales, i do and my ambition in life would to get out of this shithole

It's early in the summer yet but having lost out for Sordell, Noone, Sigurdarson, Varney, Rodriguez it makes you wonder what appeal CCFC has these days. Various factors come into account, I.e wages, location, fee,etc but it makes you wonder if we can compete in the transfer Market for quality players these days. Let's hope that with the 'apparent transfer budget' we can bring in some quality over the next month or two.

I hope to be proved wrong but i'm starting to agree. Sordell, Rodriguez, Noone, Phillips were all unlikely to come to us yet we have put more than enough effort in to get them and got nothing. Maybe we are suffering from being a nearly team for so long that players don't have the faith we can achieve.

Is there something that players/players agents know about CCFC that always seems to put them off signing for us, I understand Sigurdarson's connections to the Wolves new manager but this is getting common on our potential signings. I have to admit I find it quite concerning
Sun Jun 17, 2012 11:00 am
Well, given Sigurdarson's previously stated he'd like to work under Solbakken, and that Wolves were playing Premier League football last season and are one of the favourites to go straight back up, I'd say it's no real surprise.
The only blame I lay at city's door is the fact that we've been linked with this guy for bloody months and nothing seemed to happen until other clubs came knocking.

the move comes with a des res semi in Gelli Deg

and a penthouse appartment in uptown gurnos

Perhaps a sticky should be made:
Cardiff matched [insert club name] offer for the player but unfortunately lost out as [insert player name] chose to sign for [insert club name] instead stating he was very happy to be signing for such an illustrious club
After all, isn't this what we are getting use to reading now....

Perhaps being my next door neighbour squashed the deal then.

Then the club better start trying harder.
If we were staying blue then this would not be a problem. However as they want to make this dramatic change to red then they better start delivering instead of coming up with these pathetic excuses. If the fruitition does not come soon then the club will find its them the club against us the fans and there will be a lot of red angry faces on the fans side.
Its time to deliver NOT how hard they are working because that is drawing thin.

Wolverhampton is one of the worst cities i have been in the UK so geographical location can definately be discounted from this equation!

Further to my above post - we have apparently matched Burnleys offer for Jason Shackell. It would be worrying if we lost out to Burnley who are not exactly setting the world alight at this time. ( nothing against Burnley).

We are going for better quality players now,so we are going to miss on targets, sigurdson said few weeks ago he would love to play under the new wolves manager.
Sun Jun 17, 2012 11:12 am
As soon as he steps foot in the shit tip that is the midlands he will regret his decision.

I don't think Whiteley and Borley have that much to do with negotiating with transfer targets. We have a "Head of Recruitment" called Iain Moody
http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footballna ... -29127963/who I assume, as a former agent, would conduct the negotiations with players and their agents - I'm not sure he actually exists mind.

True but when we dont land any of the last 5 main targets its a worry for me the player recruitment at the club is not up yo the task.

Wolves have a much better chance of promotion this season so it was always going to be the choice unless we blew their offer out the water with huge sums of money.

There's a lot to be said in your comment regarding Cardiff City being perceived as a "nearly team".
I thing that was the primary reason that our home play off leg v West Ham didn't sell out.
Lack of belief, after a while it becomes contagious.

If he was wanted we needed to bid MORE than Wolves and offer more WAGES. Let's hope it was because Malky didn't think he was worth more and not that we did not have anymore.
The club must have known they were fighting a battle with him wanting to work with the manager and Wolves being seen as having more potential. It was always gonna cost us more.
I assume he will live NOWHERE near Wolverhampton.
Sun Jun 17, 2012 11:29 am
Whatever the reasons behind us losing out on this player I think we should consider that Wolves are going to receive £18m in Premier League parachute payments and that gives them the opportunity to sweeten any deal above and beyond where we can.
The player has said he wants to play for the manager so prehaps we shouldn't look further than that. Shackell and Burnley is again an interesting one Derby don't want to sell but may be forced to and again we should remember Burnley are going to receive £8m in PL parachute payments plus £6m for the sale of Rodriguez.
I'mnot really worried about things at the moment because there is not any mass activity in the transfer market at the moment although I think we are about to enter a period of increased activity.
Whatever the final outcome I believe our club will break it's transfer record during this transfer window.

you have no faith/good word in anything regarding city!! just dont see point of always critisising city on here? sure you are not swans fan in disguise????

It's great to get the best possible deal for a player but at the moment Cardiff do not want to spend the money. Believe the first bid for Noone was £400k and clearly we tried to get him on the cheap. Months later it went up to 1.2 m. Why didn't we go in with a realistic figure at the beginning. We bid 800k for Keogh although Coventry want 1m. Why not pay the going rate if you want that player that much? If they are that good They are an investment. Look at players like Turner,Mason, etc if they were sold now City would make a large profit.

if I was given a choice between two similar clubs, however one of them had just thrown away their identity, had a divided fan base and were seen to be unsettled - I know which one I'd pick.
thankfully I have two left feet so will never have to make that choice
