New Striker?

Sat Jun 16, 2012 7:11 pm

With it looking like we have missed out on another striker in bjorn sigurdarson and also jamie vardy, realistically who would you like to see sign? And do you think malky will or should be in the market for one or two new strikers? :ayatollah:

Maybe Leon Best or Helguson could be surplus this summer ?

Either would be class and just what we need.

I have no facts at all to back this up and his scoring record is amazing but I just feel he'll flop when he moves.

Heidar Helguson will be 35 years old before the season starts in August!

So he'll be free/cheap. He could still do the job for us

If MM has no real budget he'll be fine. Otherwise I think he'll be aiming higher.

With the budget that is why it's interesting to see who we could actually go for..?

It appears that all the players at Rangers are free to leave them now they have been liquidated, in that case I would love to see us sign Naismith. Kyle Lafferty could also be worth having a punt at, would certainly provide us with a bit more height up front.

Jordan Rhodes & bring Jay Bothroyd back..Nicky maynard might be available as i dont see him play much for west ham in the premier league..

I will be amazed if Jordan Rhodes doesn't end up with a Premiership team this summer. Fulham, probably.

Why would Nicky Maynard move on? He only went to West Ham in January and Allardyce brought him in expecting to get promoted.

Jay may be more realistic. He wasn't first choice last season and Hughes is trying to strengthen. I don't know what his wages are - but he must have at least one year left on his contract. If he drops back into the Championship it would probably be a loan deal with part of his wages covered? However, I think this would be a case of 'never go back' for him and us. Not a Malky type of player (leave your egos at the door!!!)

I think Maynard will move on, he was only bought to help get west ham promoted and i cant see him getting much game time next season..

Nicky Maynard, billy sharp maybe if Southampton can let him go and what about ross McCormack too

Leon Best could be a good buy, he ain't going to get much game time at Newcastle so like to see us make a reasonable offer.

Ricardo Fuller would be a good option for the Championship :old:

We need at least 2 strikers. I'd like Leon Best and Simon Cox. Would still take grass stain Jay Bothroyd back as well. :ayatollah:

Poor old earnie has proven the old adage "Never go back"
This applies to both the club and the player. So let's rule Jay, Chops and McCormack out of the reckoning.

How about Michael Owen? It's a big shout I know, but he can do a job at this level - although his wages would be prohibitive.
Again, after the Robbie Fowler mess up; Owen could be another who would drain us of money for no return.

Both Norwich and Southampton have gained consecutive promotions and found themselves going from League 1 to the Premier. SO if I was Jordan Rhodes I would stay put because you never know what could happen.

I firmly believe that we need to look overseas for a proven striker. Why? Because there simply doesn't seem to be anyone on these shores who is screaming "Me!" at the moment.

The big question is Who?

So after this long post I seem to have offered nothing at all to the debate... never mind - I've typed it now so I am going to hit submit :D

I agree with you,a lot of the names mentioned are good strikers but don't really stand out as imo, hopefully there's a top striker from abroad out there who could be one of malkys targets but whoever comes in will add extra quality and depth and options for us :ayatollah:
