Weve missed a trick this year not going for it in January.
Very poor league this year. I think next year will be much tougher with the teams leaving being replaced by better teams. Hope QPR stay up cos they will throw money at it next season.

Agreed on QPR.
I've become a massive QPR fan since January because I'm scared shitless about what they'll do if relegated. Especially as their players are all on such high wages prem clubs won't be able to pick them apart.
Tue Apr 10, 2012 9:39 pm
Every year people say it will be the toughest for years next season and it never is really. It will always be a league where everyone beats everyone
Tue Apr 10, 2012 9:40 pm
Its a league where almost all the teams are on par. You only have to look at how many teams are in with a chance of the play offs to see that.
Tue Apr 10, 2012 9:40 pm
Every year someone says something like this - I think last year was easier than this year, given the way that Reading and Southampton are playing.
I agree though that QPR would be a difficult team to beat in all probability next yera, but I don't rate Mark Hughes as a Manager, so perhaps they would bottle it.
Tue Apr 10, 2012 10:19 pm
At the start of this season most people had West Ham and Leicester as certains for top 2
Tue Apr 10, 2012 10:55 pm
Reading have not improved their playing squad
yet are going to get auto this year. Last year they just about got play-offs.
Southampton are no QPR. In fact I think the 3 sides who got promoted last season were dar superior to Southampton and Reading.
We had a better team last year, so did Leeds, Forest.etc.
The quality of teams have been very poor at the CCS this season.
Wed Apr 11, 2012 1:15 am
Completely agree. Can't believe we're 6th after playing so crap recently.
Wed Apr 11, 2012 8:50 am
i agree with polo, its been a piss poor league this yr.. two wins in god knows how many games ive lost count and we are still in the play offs.
Wed Apr 11, 2012 9:47 am
It's the same every year, if you don't manage it this year, I would be far more concerned about the teams coming up than the sides dropping out of the Premier League. (QPR are the exception if they drop)
Wolves will need at least a season to regroup in my opinion, Wigan and Bolton are both in massive debt and will have to adjust to reflect that problem meaning it will probably be a season of transition for them, Blackburn are just all sorts of broken since their owners got hold of the club.
On the other hand, from League One, Charlton seem to have their house in order, both the Sheffield clubs will push on if they get promoted and I can't see past those three even if one has to come up through the play offs.

No - this is the BEST Championship for many years BECAUSE all the teams are of a similar standard. Who wants to watch the Premier League where you know at the start of the season who the top 6 clubs are going to be?
(I still want us to get there though)

I think that we will - somehow - make the play-offs, and then it's anyone's guess. It is a bit of a lottery - just a mini cup run at the end of a season, really. The favourites - normally the 3rd and 4th-placed teams - don't always succeed. Swansea finished 3rd last year and were promoted but it isn't rare for the 6th-placed side to win it (Blackpool in 2010 to name just one). Burnley finished fifth in 2009 and went up, even after coming within a whisker of reaching the League Cup final. In the three years from 2006 to 2008 the third-placed team was promoted, but in 2005 WHU finished 6th and went up by a single goal in the final, which was also the case in 2004 for Crystal Palace. DJ led Wolves (finished 5th) to promotion in 2003. And that's as far back as I'm bothered to go
So it is a bit inconsistent in terms of promoted clubs' final league position. Ever since we've fallen away from the top 4, I've maintained that although it is disappointing to have capitulated to a certain extent, it may be a better thing for us to enter the play-offs as underdogs.

The quality is the worst for many years, and I cannot agree on it being the best, because there has been very little excitement. We draw, go back to the pub and see others have thrown away points which is good news but not exciting. Keeps us in there I suppose but for me personally, the Carling Cup aside, its been a most boring season.

Agreed. If those 3 clubs come up, they will be coming back stronger than the 3 clubs who left the division.

I don't think it's poor. I think the Championship has always been good. I agree we should've strengthened and the entertainment factor has died at the CCS lately, but if we get promoted, who'll give a f**k about that?

Last year everyone said we missed a trick, Infact every year it's said.
I think Southampton will be worthy winners and a better team than QPR last season and will do well next season like Norwich.
When you consider what west ham have spent and the wages they pay if they don't go up them Big Sam needs shooting.
Can anyone tell me what points city had at this point last season?

I don't think that qpr team were that good, guess its why they have struggled even after spending decent money in jan.

Tarbaat alone in the championship was enough for most teams.
Cant blame last years championship team for their demise hardly any of them have played regular this year.

Tarbaat was the difference and he continuesly rescued them.
I think the fact they were replaced says a lot.

Man for man theres not many Southampton players would av got in last years QPR team.
Lambert and Llallana.

Maybe not but I'm speaking about the team and general play, which IMO is better than QPR's.

QPR would have bullied them IMO.

I'm not sure the Championship is any better or worse than last year and I think next season is even less predictable.
The teams coming down will be out of Wigan, Bolton, Blackburn and Wolves. There will be a mass exodus from all of those clubs simply because none of them have money to burn. Wigan always run a tight ship and players like Moses, Rodellago, etc will be off. Bolton are around £94m in debt and may struggle to avoid admin and will have to off load their big earners. Blackburn is in disarray off the pitch despite being slightly more steady on it and Wolves not only will lose a number of players but also have to pay for a massive new stand being developed.
West Ham may still be in the Championship but they will not be able to afford or keep the current squad and the rest will be much the same except that the 3 clubs coming up (especially the 2 Sheffields) will be financially competitive which will make them a danger.
As for us ? Well hopefully we'll go up but, if not, if the rumours are true and the Malaysians will be in sole control then things could be very interesting. We can all moan about how we've played lately but the simple facts are that we aren't far off being cemented in play-offs and, at the half way point, looked odds on for an auto. In my view, given the age profile of the current squad, it wouldn't take much more than £10m investment to take us up.

In my opinion the championship and in fact British football as a whole seems to be getting weaker every season. Yet the prices we pay just keep on raising

I think you're right. A lot of people have been saying that the Primera Liga is weak bar the top two but I think the rest of Primera Liga is much stronger than people think and is only deemed weaker because of how good the top two are. Just look at how Athletico Bilbao ripped Man Utd apart and three of the last four in the Europa League are Spanish clubs.
It's the weakest Premier League I've seen in years and I think it's had a knock down effect. I think that the potential of the teams in the Championship is higher than last year but none of the teams have managed to excel. The standard of football has been very poor and the only team that has really impressed me has been Brighton.

Absolutely, what a missed opportunity. The games have been at times painful to watch, not helped by our inept contribution. Visiting teams and supporters at times have been dreadful and we haven't capitalised as we have been just as bad.
Yet we are in the play offs with 4 to play! Don't know how we have managed it, only that the other teams around us are just as bad. So lets get behind the boys, crap entertainment maybe, (League Cup aside) but we can still make Wembley yet again!!!
