" LAST NIGHT MAKES YOU UNDERSTAND "

Thu Mar 08, 2012 3:34 pm

I went to Brighton last night quite happy if we came back with a draw, but when your winning the game on both occasions and then with 3 minutes to go you think were going to win and bring home 3pts and we were singing and celebrating, then bang they equalise, you do feel youve lost 2pts and then you leave the ground unhappy, because you feel youve given it away.

Its exactly the same in the league table, at the beginning of the season I would of accepted 10th place, but then when you have been up there near the top for nearly 7 months, even 2pts of the top and you know that its there for the taking, suddenly bang, we crash down to 8th place and one win our last 7 games, come on be honest you have to be very disappointed ? because I certainly am now. Once your in the lead or up there, surely you want to be a winner then ?

Also something does not add up.

Malky wanted to strengthen/said we needed to strengthen and we never.

Thats why I link our poor form to low ticket sales for away games. I bet you, if we had won at Brighton, we would have sold all our Bristol allocation by the end of the day.

Annis any point away from home is a good point, BUT, our season looks likely to be defined by the simple fact that we have lost more points from a winning position than any other club in the division.

To put some perspective to the stat Reading have lost 2 points from a winning postion and Portsmouth have lost 12. Even match Poersmouth total of 12 would put us right in the mix for automatic promotion. Match Reading and well we would be on the way to being Champions.

It is a disappointing stat and last night was another in a long line of matches where we have let an opportunity for 3 points slip by.

will we ever get to bottom of reason why no loans ect when everyone including malkie new we needed more players like said in previous threads if got budget for transfers that must include loans as we do have window ! or is it just fact that malkie is hampered by his insistance on dossiers for all signings? cant do that for loans as very short notice generally (liam) eg agreee with other point getting abit monotanus conceding late

Annis,

You've mentioned before I think that you feel Malky has not had the financial backing which Malky himself has said has been available.

I think Malky has to be questioned now. It seems that even at this stage there is money available ( Lawrence for whom it is said we have both paid a loan fee and taken over all his wages) to strengthen the squad but Malky seems unwilling to do anything about it.

He is not utilising the squad that he has.He does not seem keen to add to the squad.Whilst I support the basic idea behind his recruitment policy does it mean that we will never sign players unless they fit into a particular type? Does Malky feel threatened by "strong" characters rather than seeing them as a challenge? He does not appear to be "savvy" enough to use substitutions and change formations to see out games when we hold the lead.

I think his inexperience is beginning to show and I hope he'll learn from what's happening at the moment but what we are seeing is an almost exact scenario that happened at Watford towards the end of last season. I've no problem with any of this but Malky needs to make sure he doesn't turn out to be as stubborn and inflexible as our last manager.

Annis that's a great post and so so very true. You know how disappointed we all were for a while coming home in the yellow submarine :D  but we made our own amusement to dampen the misery of 2 points lost as that was the only thing we were in control of last night. Too many times this season have we been in front only to go on and draw or worse still lose the game which of course makes us all very frustrated to say the least.
Something really doesn't add up but I will still back Malky (for this season at least  ) and the team 100% because of the hard work they put in.
Bring on Bristol City, I predict a 3-0 win for the Bluebirds. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

It's a conspiracy, MALKY WANTS US TO FAIL!
But seriously, what I think is that Malky talks about making sure that every player is 100% perfect to bring in, which is ok if you're one of the larger clubs which people aspire to play for, but when we desperately need to srengthen, as we needed to in January, we can't afford to be too picky with who we sign.

All valid points added here by every poster. It was like throwing two points away. So close yet so far.

However, don't take your argument to twitter ffs, I had my head bitten off last night for questioning MM's tactics and failure to use subs and slow time down at the end of the game. Don't even suggest resting players especially Miller, The up MM's arse brigade will chew you to pieces.

Anyway, we move to Saturday and to Bristol - & if we lose this MUST win game to a struggling Bottom of the division side, then we really will have it all to do. 3 home games in a row with all 9 points needed if we are to remain in contention for play offs. in fact - we should be looking at the next 12 from 12 to save our faultering progression.

I dont think giving away leads has been down to "bottling " it this season its more a lack of concentration and an inability to keep hold of the ball
This is where the more experienced players such as hudson, whitts and miller need to lead by example,I was screaming at the playerst o just calm it down and retain possession, seeing marshall constantly just hoof the ball out thus giving posession back to brighton was so frustrating
The game last night was crying out for stephen mcphail,i really hope hes back soon

Have to agree with you here Annis, Somethings not right. Why did we not strengthen in January? Funnily enough can't get an answer off TG on that one    . I have my own views on that one. I don't think any substantial amounts of money were really made made available to Malky during the January transfer window and I also have a feeling that all is not well between PMG and the Malaysians? bit of a power struggle going on? PMG not converting debt into shares- why is that? (PMG not so committed to Cardiff City as we first thought? only to their own bank balance?) Things not so rosy as appears to be on the surface methinks. Maybe I am paranoid

We are not rich enough to gamble at Christmas.... The value is in the summer, that's where we need to play. I believe the Sordell story, he knows the lad and got the money. He would have had a resale value unless he totally crashed and thats what MM dossiers are about, so he wouldn't have.

The symmetry between losing a lead and being third in the league is a very good point. Lets hope we can strike an injury time winner and get to the playoffs. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I won't judge MM until this time next year.

We had our chance to strengthen in January and we didn't do anything, so however much we complain it won't make any difference. I never want to hear the bloody word again

Re: " LAST NIGHT MAKES YOU UNDERSTAND "

3 mins to go, 2-1 up singing and celebrating, and we give them a free shot from 5 yards. Our defending is not good enough, I know in theory all goals are preventable, apart from Lionel messi goals, but all 4 goals in our last 2 games were poor to concede.

You've really become a glass half empty person - don't dwell on the negative things, it'll make you bitter and twisted!

Last night has gone. We have to work and support the players we have. Let's try to create a positive feel about this board again - that's why I contribute to this one rather than certain other boards I won't mention!

It adds up alright. No one above malky knows football. I'd give lennie lawrance the job of director of football. The mans contacts and experiance would be invaluable.

From Facebook

Gareth Hemmings Got to be honest annis I feel quite deflated at the moment. Our performances at the beginning of the season were awesome and we've stayed at the top then again at the business end we drop the standard of performance and are unable to ground out a result. This has been the same pattern for the last 3-4 years and our club doesn't seam to be doing a urging to change this. I'm sure there's a logical explanation for this but it's Malkys job to sort it and I'm sure next year he will with a full preseason with the players allready there and new signings. I'm not annoyed at the players or malky and his staff, they've done a great job this year with a thread bare squad it's just frustrating seeing the same pattern of results at different periods throughout the season every year. We need fresh legs and healthy competition for places. On forums I've noticed people knocking millers performances, he works really hard but he needs to have it in his head, he's NOT number one and if he doesn't score then there's someone else on the bench who'll take his place. In malky we trust

This season, I am 100% behind Malky, but if the same things happen from July/August onwards, I will be def wanting answers.
It does look similar to the Watford scenario, I know our board have given Malky a massive pay rise, so I wont expect Malky to say anything against them.

The mature minds on this forum said a while ago that "they hoped Malky would be given support when things got difficult, which they definitely would do". Surprise, surprise things have got difficult.

Yes its fine to be...
Questioning why Miller is always getting picked.
Questioning why Earnie never gets picked.
Questioning why we sit back after taking a lead.
Commenting on how many points we lose from winning positions (and compared to Watford with Malky).

But this should not affect our support of the manager and the team. It's only a handful of weeks since a lot of us were worried that a premier league club might swoop for our manager. Social media is a powerful thing. Be careful what you wish for.
