A forum for all things Cardiff City

We are all aware of Malky's dossiers on bringing in new players. First a player is scouted, then a dossier is prepared by the team of 4 in the recruitment process, one will check out the players attitude and lifestyle, another will check on previous moves and how the player has performed throughout his career, creating a paper trail that is transparent to the board of directors. If the potential signing fails to pass on any of these checks then he will not be signed, period. I have been a fan of this philosophy and recruitment process as I believe it does help bring stability to the squad and I have defended it throughout the previous loan window and the recent transfer window.
I believe the recruitment process is right for the long term permanent signings ie. those who commit to 3 and 4 year deals but in the short term and when there is only 8 weeks left of the regular season I believe this process is restricting us in bringing players in.
This team needs help and it needs it now, there is fatigue in the majority of the players that are used week in week out. Malky Mackay is not using the fringe players (they are more like forgotten players now), the likes of Earnshaw, Blake, Quinn, Keinan, etc.
If we are not going to use these players to freshen the squad up then in my opinion we must bring in one or two to help us get to where we need to be, the play-offs or better.
As a short term fix I can't see the problem, if you bring in a striker of winger who you believe will strengthen the squad but he does not match all the criteria set out in the dossier are we giving ourselves the best chance of success?
We owe it to the players who have got this far to give them the best chance of success and the possibility of playing Premier League football next season.
I don't wish to go all out loaning like last season but at least find the right mix of short term fix to aid the long term gain.

Good post Carl.
Malky is almost being over careful in recruitment which is the opposite of DJ. Malky would never have signed Bywater, JLS, Oli etc...
We need more punch and pace up front and a 2month loan deal for a couple of players is a must if we are too retain our play off challenge.

Not all players are done like this though, I know they took a punt on rudy and they knew about miller.
All other signings in fairness have been excellent, certainly the way forward.
Picking up young players to develope also means potential return on players.
This summer will be when MM finally has a chance to build a squad with a full summer and first look at frees which is where you have to look to build a real squad.

Haris Vuckik ?

Haven't seen enough of him but I was talking about perm signings.
I wouldn't change a process just because a one month loan hasn't been a massive success.

Excellent post Carl.
As far as I'm concerned it's time to get the paper shredder out and start getting a few loans in, only 3, because with Vuckic and Lawrence we could only name another 3 in the matchday squad.
Immediate need outweighs the benefits of writing up a missive about what a player has for breakfast,

I am saying Luke that with permanent signing I would keep the recruitment policy as it is.
But with just 8 weeks and 13 games to play we need reinforcements and the policy may be hindering us making signings.

Vuckic IMO played extremely well yesterday, chased, ran at defenders, pressured - done pretty much all he could effort wise. Now the cup is out way, Vuckic will hopefully get a good run of games together now. I'd like to see him shoot more often too. He has the quality, we've seen it and we've been told by Newcastle fans. (some of them wanted him to stay!!) if he gets to stay another month, that would be great!

I think vukic will come good, he admitted himself that the step down was difficult, or something along those lines. He's no doubt got the quality though

Maybe, the problem with loans are unless they have something to prove or out of contract at the end of the season they tend to not go that extra mile when it counts.
Also generally (exception of Lawrence) are usually not good enough for the parent club. That's not to say they won't be good enough for us but the wrong loans can have a negative effect like JLS, JET etc.
We certainly need another striker but no point paying over the odds if MM doesn't want or rate him.

One of the most important aspects of this season, Malkys first in charge of us, is to learn about things through trial and error.
Whilst his policies regarding loan recruitments may appear admirable, is there really much to lose by, as Castleblue said, 'getting the paper shredder out'?
Mon Mar 05, 2012 8:37 pm
Without doubt we need a striker in on loan if we are to go up. That is where are weakness is. However I cannot see that happening or should I say getting a quality one at that specially this time of year. To me the best we will do now is the play offs.
If we dont go up and we have a good summer signing I think we could be quite challenging next season. The 3 clubs I expect to come down will struggle in this league. The 3 clubs I believe will go up are a lot stronger than those coming down.
The long term recruitment policy could quite easily work next season.

No I didn't, Ive said we were battered actually in posts, others pointed to stats and said it was equal, certainly not me.
I just pointed out we hit the woodwork twice, the difference between success and failure is minimal, inches.

What would you do if you was in charge of Cardiff city right now? a serious question. Who would you bring in? and what tactics and formations would you employ?

Or just wrong either way I couldn't give a shit tbh.
If I said we were unlucky I'd stand by it but I never. I've been proven wrong on matters a number of times, it doesn't bother me in the slightest, my opinions don't change tho.

Its not about what I would do now its what I would have done in January and kicked on then.
Now at this present moment I would release Rudy fom his contract with immediate effect.
secondly the players we have at our disposal we have to go back to 451.
Bring Mcphail or Kiss in to sit with Whitts and Aron further forward. Whitts is wasted playing centre half.
Id also drop Kev and bring in Quinny.
Earnie on the bench.
My mate Normsie as my no.2.

In all fairness glammy, that's not such a bad idea - Quinny was great for us last season, and Kevs not doing too well. There has to be a reason why so many Scottish right backs are ahead of Kev in the national team pecking order.
