His friends who go to the same cafe as me, warned him if he and his mates went in the Cardiff end they had to keep quite, also they never usually go to watch Liverpool anyway. He was then joined by a couple of other Liverpool fans.

In todays Echo.
AS I was a Liverpool fan unable to source tickets for our own section of Wembley stadium, a Cardiff-based colleague managed to obtain two tickets for the Cardiff section of fans behind the goal.
Although not an ideal situation, it allowed us to at least see the match and I told my 15-year-old son it would be OK as this was not the hooligan-filled days of the 1970s and 1980s Britain.
Although I thought there was no particular enmity between Cardiff and Liverpool fans, we did not wear our team colours lest this be seen as antagonistic.
However, I made the mistake of instinctively punching the air in celebration when Liverpool scored their first goal, an action that lasted for all of a second, and this was the cue for a volley of vitriol from fans behind us. I was spat on and kicked in the back and when I turned around to see who had kicked me I was incredulous to see a man in his 60s who was bellowing abuse at us.
Fearing for our safety we left our seats to be met by a chorus of Cardiff fans cheering loudly and singing something about us having to leave our seats and go home. The only stewards to be found were in the bowels of the stadium and as they could not find us anywhere else to sit we had no option but to leave the stadium.
What I found most disconcerting was the fact that I expected this to be the actions of a very small handful of idiots; every club has them and my own is no exception. However, I was shocked at the bitterness and hatred spewing from the vast majority of the Cardiff fans around us after the goal was scored.
I would like to thank the genuine Cardiff fan who followed us down into the stadium to apologise for the actions of these supporters; this guy seemed genuinely shocked and upset at what had happened.
However, to all those others who were sitting behind us in Block 542, may you hang your heads in shame at bullying a 50-year-old man and his 15-year-old son out of their seats on what should have been a memorable occasion for all concerned.

f**k him, this ain't rugby, we have seperate ends for a reason, also the season ticket owner who gave him the ticket should have let a Cardiff fan have it
Thu Mar 01, 2012 2:49 pm
f**k him, I was in that block there were plenty of scousers about they all treated the same
Thu Mar 01, 2012 2:49 pm
is he a scouser or welsh?? Any case he woulda known its not a wise decision to celebrate when ur in the opposing teams section of fans no matter what team they were... Dont know what he hopes to achieve from telling the echo, they probably laughed at him.. Plastic scousers... 50 is the new 40 so i dont know what hes moaning for hes still a young un haha
Thu Mar 01, 2012 2:50 pm
Got what he deserved really, what else did he expect sitting in a crowd of 31,000 and then cheering the opposition. This man is deluded to expect any other kind of treatment, he knowingly stopped genuine Cardiff fans from sitting in Cardiff end and has to cheek to complain.

Tough titty

An absolutely stupid and lets face it selfish act to get tickets in the Cardiff section and not expect there to be some kind of reaction if the Cardiff fans found out.
His action is buying a ticket which by absolute right in my mind belonged to a Cardiff fan stinks of "I'm alright Jack" syndrome. I couldn't make this game and my son in law is a plastic Liverpool fan and he wanted me to give my ticket to him. I told him in no uncertain terms to go get one from his club if he wanted to see the game live. Believe me I had a load of tongue pie off the wife for days, did I care did I f**k.
Thanks to Annis my tickets went to some true Bluebird fans who otherwise wouldn't have been able to see the game.
In my opinion this guy, whoever he is, is nothing more than an arrogent tosspot who got exactly what his selfish behaviour deserved.
Thu Mar 01, 2012 3:00 pm
There is segregation at football grounds for a reason and although it is not nice what he had to deal with what does he expect? He knew the risk he was taking when he said he wouldn't wear colours? Just seems daft on his behalf IMO
I don't think this was an isolated event as I was sat in block 545 and witnessed a similar event but then the Liverpool fan attacking a 50+ yr old steward? I think they run the risk so deal with the consequences!

What a dick!!
He should be done for irresponsible parenting. I would never ever have taken my son in the Liverpool end.

absolutely, he deliberately put his son at risk to 'enjoy' watching a football match that a Cardiff fan should have been enjoying with his son and other fellow City fans

Thu Mar 01, 2012 3:40 pm
Why didn't he apply for tickets from Anfield? cos he's a plastic that doesn't go to games. Oh I know let's get some tickets designated for Cardiff City fans they don't deserve them do they? What the feck does he expect??? Luckily we are in the year 2012 if it was back in the 70's or 80's he certainly wouldn't have walked out of our end he would no doubt have been carried out on a stretcher. What an idiot of a man taking a 15 year old boy into the opponents fans seats. He got off lightly.

f**k him, got a lot less than he deserved for being in there in the first place!
Thu Mar 01, 2012 3:43 pm
Very little sympathy. My main objection is not that he is a LIverpool fan, or even that he jumped up and celebrated, although I wouldn't have been happy about that.
But he deprived two City fans of what will probably be their only chance to see their team in a Carling Cup Final. He also, by the way, ignored the Wembley stadium rule which state very clearly that you have to be a fan of the team for whom the ticket is sold. He wasn't.
**** him.
Thu Mar 01, 2012 3:54 pm
I think had he been known to others beforehand might have been a little banter but celebrating when they scored is bound to get people's hackles up. It's like you are taking the piss really.

Thats fair enough its your opinion.
But I notice you say you leave early for away games to get to an away pub for banter. Is that because you know that leaving early to do the same in a home pub would be silly?
Thu Mar 01, 2012 4:24 pm
He was warned but choose to ignore the advice so it's his own fault the silly man

John i was wonderin if it was the same guy stood by us, sounded like too much of a coincidence not to have been
Thu Mar 01, 2012 4:40 pm
Ahh right I though it sounded odd when I read it
Its all about occasion and timing for me.
I went to soton v Cardiff few weeks back and sat in there end as I travelled down with soton season ticket holders down here.
People around me knew I was a city fan and we chatted about both clubs over a beer pre match. I sat there quielty didnt celebrate outwardly when we scored, and didnt take the piss. Watched the game had a beer, after the game shook hands with the soton fans around me and walked back to van.
Had I jumped up and gone mental, no doubt they wouldnt have been so friendly and if I had taken a beating I couldnt have complained.

"AS I was a Liverpool fan unable to source tickets for our own section of Wembley stadium, a Cardiff-based colleague managed to obtain two tickets for the Cardiff section of fans behind the goal"
And by doing so, you denied 2 Cardiff fans the opportunity to see their team play at Wembley, apologies if you were not warmly welcomed with a smile and a handshake Mr Riley.
