MALKY COMMITS TO CARDIFF LONG TERM
Wed 22 Feb 2012

Cardiff City Football Club are delighted to announce a three and a half year contract extension that will see Malky Mackay remain with the club until at least June 2016.

Malky joined Cardiff City from Watford last summer and quickly won the respect and admiration of all connected to the club. Along with a dedicated and newly assembled coaching and football staff he has continually kept Cardiff City firmly in the hunt for Premier League promotion, along with the recent and historic achievement of securing a first ever Carling Cup Final place for the club at Wembley Stadium this coming weekend.

Speaking of the new contract, Dato' Chan Tien Ghee, Cardiff City Football Club Chairman said, "We are honoured to see Malky commit himself to our great club for the long term. His dedication and hard work has been a joy to see over the last eight months, as has the positive influence it has instilled with everyone associated with Cardiff City. The length of contract outlines the strength of bond we all feel and we can look forward with optimism to the years ahead under his stewardship."

Malky Mackay added, "It's with great pride that I have signed a new and long term contract. My positive thoughts of Cardiff, as a city, a club and its supporters have only been enhanced further since coming to South Wales last summer. Along with my coaching team, my squad of players and the many hard working people at the club I look forward to the future as we aim to bring success to this club."

We are sure that all Cardiff City Football Club supporters and partners will join us in celebrating this news as we push to make history on two fronts this season. Malky Mackay will next be available to press and media on Thursday afternoon ahead of our Carling Cup Final against Liverpool this weekend.

If a "larger" club comes along can the contract be bought out?

brilliant news, i'm convinced that he will get us to the premiership within 2 years, this season was always a rebuilding 1 and what he and the team has achieved is well above what we all expected at the beginning of the season.
i've been following city for over 30 years and am convinced that malky will get us there.
lets enjoy this weekend and if we don't make the premier this year there'll always be next year when we will be stronger... :ayatollah:

Not worth the paper it is written on, imo, just means we will get more compensation if he leaves us for another club, where are the loan players to push us on to the premiership.

This should have been announced after the Carling Cup final, that is where the club focus should be this week, the biggest game of the season so far.

Brilliant news, we at last have a club and a manager who has a long term plan.

Young players being bought for money to play in the academy as our future and a strong first 11.

I was a big DJ fan but he was about the short term, plans now seem to be in place long term.

Clever timing by the club to announce this. With Wolves looking at Championship managers and with a cup final on Sunday, perfect time to announce this

Perfect timing, just the lift the club needs after a lot of whinging over the last couple of weeks, the club seems to have a long term plan at last instead of boom or bust policies of recent times.

Feck me there's some happy souls on here! If we won the champions league some people would be saying "we'll never win it next year"!

I'd hate to be in the trenches with some of you, i'd shoot myself
