RUDY GESTEDE

Sat Feb 04, 2012 7:30 pm

Ok, I am not, and I repeat it and I mean, I am not trying to be negative. This is a thread on what you think of Rudy Gestede.

At the start of the season I was extremely impressed with him as he played a big part in winning three points in our opening game game away to West Ham. After the game, I thought that he was going to be a big star at the club. He then went on to save our Carling Cup hopes when he scored a fantastic equaliser against Leicester City.

However, when he got injured, he missed a lot of games and we thought we missed him. But when he came back he came back unconfident and not at his best.

Reports came back from Southampton claiming that he was awful and today, I thought he was lazy and out of position.

I am a fan of Gestede but I don't think he will make it to the Premiership in all honesty

I don't think he will make it in the championship, maybe a squad player at best

How do we know ?

As you say he started OK then got injured. How many games has he started since the injury, when MM fell in love with the one up front formation.

But coming on for the last 10 mins is not going to show us anything.

If MM believes in him, then start with him and Miller/Earnie.

He was outstanding against Forest away,a man of the match performance
shame some people only remember a 10 minute spell when we lose

You ca'nt blame Rudy for today. Or for the fact he's being played. He was always going to need a season to settle in to British football. We've had plenty of opportunities to sign an "up and ready" striker.

Re: RUDY GESTEDE

I personally think Rudy is good enough, and id really like to see Malky play him alongside kenny miller for the full 90 minutes

the singling out and slating of certain players after each defeat is becoming depressing.

Re: RUDY GESTEDE

It's no good pumping the ball up in the air to Rudy all the time, as even if he wins the aerial battle, he's usually got nobody alongside him, to feed off any knock downs!

I lost count of the times we pumped the ball up in the air to Kenny at Southampton, we did the same to Kenny today, who seldom won any serial possession, against 2 tall centre backs!

We did the same when Rudy come on today and it just hands possession back to the opposition!

Rudy was a gamble, sometimes he comes on and looks good other times poor.
Hard to judge his cameo today, the last game he started I felt he did well in.

ATM is have earnie on the bench instead tho.

No; replace the original name with that of Kenny Miller though, and you certainly can.

Atrocious.

Someone ban this fool, it's not him.
I've only seen a few of his posts on here and read a few blogs and he has more manners than this.

thank christ someone who thinks rudy has more to offer. He just needs the match time and opportunity to prove it.I'm a fan anyway. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Rudy is still learning, he was really starting to get it together in my opinion, then got injured. Now he starting all over again, but has only just stopped having injections.

THis is why I think we need a reserve team playing regular fixtures.

He makes a nuisance of himself but hes not very good

Re: RUDY GESTEDE

His flick ons nearly put mason in twice when we hadn't created many clear cut chances the rest of the game. We need someone like rudy to try and have an impact in the last 20 mins of a game if its not going our way and I prefer him to Parkin. He will never be a starter in a 451 formation which is by far our strongest set up but he is good player to have in the squad and probably isn't on huge wages. We need a striker with a bit more stature than miller, mason and earnie but we don't need a big target man because rudy can do that job.

He is not good enough for this level i'm afraid.

i said it before and ill say it again this guy is another eddie johnson.

got a likeable name to chant but does not offer anything other than effort.

thats not me being negative against the club I just dont think this guy is good enough

Re: RUDY GESTEDE

I am not one for bashing our players but I've said from the first time I seen him against parma that he's nothing special and won't last to long here, love to be proved wrong on this one but I don't see him making it at our club have done the odd good thing there and then but that's it, people was saying he's a better bothroyd after he set up miller against west ham I just think they got excited to easy after that to many panda pops if they think he's in same class as bothroyd

Like you say saw him in pre-season games and my first impressions were this was a guy who can't play football to save his life he has no ball control whatsoever. While he does win some good knock downs this is his only attribute and that is not good enough for a championship forward let alone a premier player.
the goal he made against west ham was lucky because the linesman didn't see his push on the west ham defender when he took the ball off him then it was a terrible pass which kenny did brilliant to get down under control and fire home the goal against leicester was good but still the only decent thing he has done with his feet .
when kenny went off yesterday they should have definately brought on Earnie

Maybe maybe but Eddie was on around 25k a week, Rudy will be on minimal wages.

Rudy played well against Leicester in the cup which I think was his last start. If we had a bigger squad it would have been nice to have sent him out on loan for a month or so just to get more game time.

Rudy started against forest 2 blue and was MOTM for me,never stopped running and battled on despite getting the shit kicked out of him
im quite surprised that few people remember how effective he was against forest

You made the comparison not me
As mentioned above he has had some good games, seems to lack consistency

Re: RUDY GESTEDE

he will be a better player next season im very confident of that, hes ceratinly no jay bothroyd yet and perhaps never will be but after seeing all of our matches this season i honestly believe hes good enough to be in our squad.

I wouldnt be surprised if he has a blinder against Leicester
