" CAN WE GO AUTOMATIC ? "

Fri Feb 03, 2012 9:39 pm

Through out the first part of the season I thought we would finish 10th, I am happy to look like I will get that prediction totally wrong.

As each week and game passes this team and manager has got me believing we are going to go on and do something that I never expected this season and that is to make the play offs.

But can we go the next step and make the autos?

In the 8 seasons we have played in the Championship the average points needed to get promoted in second place is 85.75.

We are currently on 50 points with 18 games to go.

Going on the average we need to take another 36 points to get promoted automatically. Can we do it.

36 points = 12 wins from 18 games and 6 losses.
36 points = 11 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses.
36 points = 10 wins, 6 draws and 2 losses.
36 points = 9 wins, 9 draws and no losses.

Those four calculations on achieving a minimum of 36 points, which do you consider would be the most likely we could obtain going on what results we have achieved this season or do you think those three examples of 36 points out of the remaining 18 games are beyond us.

Its in the bag mate, wait til the loan transfers come in and bolster the squad, weve lost 4 all season, WERE GOING UP AS CHAMPIONS. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: CAN WE GO AUTOMATIC ?

Would have to say 36 points = 10 wins, 6 draws and 2 losses :ayatollah:

But the thing I like is we are not losing many games and apart from Brighton we should have picked up at least a point in the games we lost! :ayatollah:

All we can do is just plot along, game by game and by 28th April we will see where it will leave us, We can do it :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

No you're a f*cking liar full of shi.... Oops sorry we've moved on.

I would say yes but I will jinx it so I'll just carry on my normal way by saying no chance not good enough

Yes anything is possible under Malky. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

But I honestly believe because we never strengthened, its the play offs for us, 6th place, but Malky will take us to wembley again. :ayatollah:
Players looking tired.

It will be hard, and I think more likely that we get the play-offs.

At least we'll have a chance this time without mr. bottler in charge :ayatollah:

10 wins, 6 draws, 2 losses for me I think !!

And hope I guess if 36 pts is enough. Who knows!!

We hav only lost four so far out of 28 and we are the draw specialists away from CCS

I really fancy us in the play offs if thats where we end up. Over 2 legs i really think we'd be a match for ANYONE. Last year im not sure we;d beat anyone over 2 legs let alone other p-off teams. I predict the following:
1. West Ham
2.Birmingham
3.Cardiff
4.Hull
5.Leicester
6 Southampton We;d slam a free falling Southampton and edge out Leicester by the odd goal at Wembley

I have us down to get 30 points from them games

Its only a matter of time where we will be 1st in the league for at least a week or 2! :ayatollah:

Re: " CAN WE GO AUTOMATIC ? "

Carl, I really do believe that we can go automatic.
We have a great manager and a fit squad. We are over halfway into the season and we are still not showing any signs of giving up, unlike Southampton. I believe we can achieve the remaining 36 points by targeting towards the 2 losses group. Hopefully, if the squad can keep going and the fans back the squad, we can be extremely hard to beat.
If you don't lose, then it's at least a point a game, but I know that our squad is better than a point a game. :ayatollah:

18 wins and champions, that's the way I'll keep thinking!!!

I'd love to go to Wembley and win the play-off final - I still haven't recovered from the Blackpool game yet, to put that ghost to bed would be great - I wouldn't refuse an auto spot if it were offered though, but sadly, I think there are several teams who have splashed the dosh in the right areas and it'll be hard for us to get top 2.

I'm confident we will go up this year though :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

If we carry on the way we are going then I am confident that we can. As long as we don't go on a bad run of form.

Re: " CAN WE GO AUTOMATIC ? "

Fri Feb 03, 2012 11:54 pm

I think we'll be fine in terms of the play-offs, although I'm not too sure about automatic promotion. I'll say one thing though; we're in the top 3 over halfway through the season - I don't think we'd fall too far away now.

Re: " CAN WE GO AUTOMATIC ? "

Top six will do , not going through that predition stuff again cause we always crash and burn , taking it game by game this year. If we do get automatic then it will be a bonus if not ,then we crack on as normal. :ayatollah:

personally I don't think I can judge it until Malky dips into the loan market? Going on what we have though - I rekon another 28-33 pts.... depending on whether or not we get any injuries?

Re: " CAN WE GO AUTOMATIC ? "

I think it will be 7 wins, 9 draws, 2 losses.

Who in this division has outplayed us?????

Re: " CAN WE GO AUTOMATIC ? "

Sat Feb 04, 2012 9:40 am

I expect the unexpected with CCFC.

Personally I think that West Ham will win it. 2nd place is too close to call with CCFC, Brum, Blackpool, Southampton and Leicester all capable of getting to 85 points.

Southampton are too reliant on Lambert and Lalana and if either is injured they will struggle to finish 2nd.

Birmingham have the fire power to get there with the likes of Burke, King, Zilic (on his day) and young Redmond. Their biggest downfall could be losing Ridgewell who is a qulaity defender.

Blackpool are another team with some great attacking players (the 2 Phillips' boys) plus the core of the team have played together for a long time and Holloway is a great motivator.

CCFC as we all know are difficult to beat. Our only real downside seems to be too many away draws. We need luck with injuries and need to bring in 2 loan signings to boost our attack.

DON'T STOP BELIEVING LADS-CCFC for the Premier League

I have always thought we would make the playoffs and I still believe that even though I think it will take less than 86 points win automatic promotion. The last time the Championship was this open was in season 2007-08 when the Champion club, West Brom had 51 points after 28 games, they should have had 50 but for a very lucky comeback in a 3-3 home draw against the number 1 team in wales. But they went up as Champions with 81 points.

The second place club Stoke City had 49 points after 28 games and went up with only 79 points, I think the Championship has that kind of look about it this season although I expect West Ham to walk away with it now. Why? Because of the way they have invested in their squad in January their strength is our failing. I think our lack of investment will catch up during March where we have 8 games also Leicester and Ipswich away just before a Carling Cup final Hmmm. Will we be fully up for those games because we really need to be.

On average over the last 8 years the Champion club has had 54 points after 28 games and the runners up 52 points after 28 games so we are close but just a little behind the average at the moment.

Still believe we will make the playoffs and from where we started in August that will be a great achievement.

Re: " CAN WE GO AUTOMATIC ? "

Can we go up automatically, absolutely. Will we be promoted automatically is a different question.
If we continue with our current form, we have accumulated more points and lost far less games in the last three months that any other team in the Championship, then the omens look good. The fact that we did not sign any players in January will be made irrelevant if Malky MacKay brings some experience in to bolster what is already a very talented and commited squad.
The fact that West Ham have made a number of high profile signings will not necessarily ensure they take one of the two automatic places available. Didn't many pundits say we had the most talented squad in the Championship last season? Look what happened to us!
Quite clearly we have everything to play for, and personally I wouldn't change our current position or our squad and management for any other team in this league. :ayatollah:

Re: " CAN WE GO AUTOMATIC ? "

City have only lost 4 all season, of those 4 losses the Hull away game we should never have lost. First Miller going off early then Earnie going off then a reversed penalty decision, then a free kick that wasnt that led to them racing up field and scoring. The Peterborough game was a late late show and this team had not played many times together, I dont think that would happen now.
Brighton outplayed Cardiff but once again very early in the season with a new team still gelling. The more they play together the better they are looking, I would be very surprised if they lost another 4 in the second half. This team also looks like they dont have blips not like the other sides in the championship, if they keep up the consistency then I see an automatic place well within their grasp. I do believe though that we need backup for Miller and Conway. Midfield seems to be strong especially now McPhail is back and in my view playing ok, if he keeps it up we could even go a game or two without Whitts. Defence is pretty well covered, when asked to play I think overall Blake, Gerrard, Naylor and Heaton have done ok overall, I even thought Keinan did ok at WBA.

The only way I can see us losing more than 4 games for the remainder of the season is if we have a few long term injuries to key players like Miller, Whitts, Turner, Taylor. I stress long term as I believe city can still get results over a game or two with this squad.

Re: " CAN WE GO AUTOMATIC ? "

We are a team that is difficult to beat. Therefore I can see us winning a lot of points on the road. So in that department we are on course for automatics. However it is our home form that could be our let down. Although difficult to beat there we are not winning our games comfortable. Excluding the Reading game we have mainly scraped 1-0 wins plus last time out a last minute winner. We obviously need to win our home games but due ot the way we make it hard work I think we will drop points due to too many draws.

I personally feel we have a good chance of an auto place though. A lot of us think because we have not brought in new players during this transfer window, or should I say failed at the last step, we will pay the price. I am not convinced of that argument because I believe we have strength in what we have with our 2nd 11 players, I mean those guys have reached a cup final.

Summing up if we win most of our remaining home games I believe we will get an automatic place.

Can we go up automatic?

no, we mismanaged the transfer window.
