" MALKY SPEAKS OUT ON DEALS "

Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay
CARDIFF City lost out on a dramatic £3million bid to bring Watford striker Marvin Sordell to south Wales, with Premier League Bolton moving in at the 11th hour to gazump their offer.

Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay made the swoop for the highly-rated Sordell just minutes ahead of last night’s well-earned 1-1 draw with Southampton.

Front-man Sordell seemed certain to be on his way to the Bluebirds on the final day of the transfer window when Watford appeared to accept City’s huge bid.

The Echo understands City were able to speak to the player and his agent, but Bolton were then said to have moved in with a bigger offer for Sordell.

The Bluebirds would not increase their bid and eventually time ran out on the potential deal.

City manager Mackay also made a bid of £1.2m for Brighton winger Craig Noone, a fee which would have risen to £1.5m with extras.

In the end though, City were unable to strengthen their squad and will wait until the loan window opens in a week to look at other options.

Manager Mackay would not comment on Sordell or Noone last night, but did speak of what he saw as a ‘crazy’ night of Championship action and transfer speculation.

The Bluebirds earned their 1-1 draw against promotion rivals Southampton, while Mackay and his backroom team were also chasing hard to strengthen the squad.

“We had a bid accepted for one player and than half an hour after things changed,” said Mackay.

“It’s strange that we have this night when football matches are going on. It’s crazy, incredibly strange.”

Mackay turned his mobile off for a couple of hours during the match when head of recruitment Iain Moody took charge of the transfer dealings and was able to focus fully on the action at Southampton.

Jon Parkin left Cardiff to sign for Scunthorpe on loan, while City terminated the contract of defender Gabor Gyepes by mutual consent and he is a free agent. Hibernian are among the clubs interested in the Hungarian international.

“A lot of work was put in and if one of our transfer targets had come in it would have been very good,” said Mackay.

“But when you look at the amount of financial backing put in by our Malaysian owners I can only thank them.

“It wasn’t for a lack of effort or finFancial support that we didn’t bolster our squad. We hit the post twice, so to speak... and we will move again when the loan window opens on February 7.

“I was incredibly well supported and backed. It was frustrating, but at I was able to watch the way our team performed and that put a smile back on my face.”

City took the lead at Southampton via Craig Conway, only for a controversial Rickie Lambert penalty to cancel it out.

Lets make good on the loan window, we still have a great squad of team players. Buying players now isn't the be all and end all we can still kick some arse in this league!

If you need a turkey to feed your family for Christmas, you don't run through the door in Tescos as they are closing on Christmas Eve. Goodnight fellow Bluebirds, we had an "all dressed up with nowhere to go" last transfer day!

Only spin is by you tbh.

Malky only mentioned noone some weeks ago and no other players have ever been named.
The club haven't even mentioned sordell.

So we now have £4.5M or there abouts to back our manager...would have put all of that to get Jordan Rhodes myself ;)
( And given Huddersfield - Parkin - Gypes - ) Thought i was going to get a good night sleep tonight 2Blue ;)

Well we now know that MM has the above funds to use in the next loan window :ayatollah:

There is something not quite right about this reporting, there is a lot of spin going on. As somebody else said in this post, if we had that much money then we could have got something sorted. We left it too late again. I still think the manager is amazing, and the guys are playing fantastically well overall, but guaranteed premiership football? not at the moment with our squad as it is. We missed a trick this month, I hope he sorts some loans out or the season ticket sales won't take of as well as they may have hoped.

Not sure anybody is reading the report correctly, as it says Walesonline understands that we bid £3 million for Sordell & £1.2 million for Noone!

Neither of the reported bids are attributed directly to Malky, as it says he would not comment on Sordell or Noone! ;) :ayatollah:

all these negative comments were made in the summer, players people did not rate, but look where we are today. a wembley cup final and right behind the top two in third in the leaque. Malky said no knee jerk reaction. prices sky high. how many clubs will have paid a fortune and ended up with a donkey?. Hell we did that in the past. maybe he left bids till end as he was watching goings on. it all seems a bit like a poker game at times. if those players did not want to come here, their loss and I do not want players who do not want to be here 100%. quality loan and we are back inbusiness. In malky we tr :ayatollah: ust.
