" DEBATE WITH A WELSH LIVERPOOL FAN TODAY "

Fri Jan 27, 2012 6:18 pm

In the 70's & 80's Cardiff and South Wales was full of Liverpool fans.

Wether you like this or not, For a while under Rick Wright then thanks to Sam, South Wales turned Blue and remains mostly that today. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Well the debate was this, the Welsh Liverpool fan reckons if say, Liverpool had to play a season in the Premier League in the Millennium Stadium, they would average 50,000 by the end of the season.

Any opinions ?

I think they'd get a full house every game. There would be people coming from all over South Wales to watch them unfortunately whether to watch Liverpool or the team they're playing.

It's not as clearcut as it would have been maybe five years ago but there are still plenty of Liverpool fans that go to city games because they don't want to travel.

Same here Gareth. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
But there are plenty of them in South Wales, who in the 70's and 80's chose them over their home town club Cardiff City.

pigging plastics !!!!!

Annis i think they would !! because it is not just South Wales there is the West Country and beyond. And to be fair that is the only way these sad fookers will ever get to watch there team play. Same can be said about Manure as well. The truth is the Country is full of Plastic fans and they claim to be there biggest supporters but truth be told they could not be even bothered to get off there lazy articles to go and support there chosen team.
But what gets my goat they chose to support there so called team because they win all the time, that is there prerogative i suppose !! But then they have the audacity to say to us , "Why do you watch that shit for ?". Well for one it aint worth explaining to them as they just would not understand.

50,000 or 75,000 ?

Could be anything up to 75k, you'd still find loyal Liverpudlians coming to games aswell.

Re: " DEBATE WITH A WELSH LIVERPOOL FAN TODAY "

You have to remember when we were kids , there were no live games ( especially showing the lower divisions) on TV other than the cup finals and England internationals and hooliganism was rife.
MOTD, The Big Match, Sportsnight, etc tended to feature highlights of the 1st division and in those days inevitably the best teams in the country would feature more than most and unless their parents ( typically father in those days) went "down the City" the only teams you would see week in week out would be those on the TV and Liverpool started their golden times with Shankly late 60's early 70's

Hopefully Malky will be OUR Shankly :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Which is why we will have the last laugh on Feb 26th.

Hopefully I shall be there (will be mightily pissed off if i cant get seats and s wales plastics get in) but win, lose or draw CCFC fans of the 80s and 90s can look down smugly on the twats that took the piss out of our great club.

i think they would get huge crowds.but no more than cardiff playing in the mill stad next year in prem

Re: " DEBATE WITH A WELSH LIVERPOOL FAN TODAY "

Fri Jan 27, 2012 6:45 pm

As much as i hate to say it i think they would have no problem selling it out:( The Welsh Liverpool 'fans' wouldnt be able to use the excuse of travel is a problem, plus i think with the big named players they have people that dont know much about the sport would just turn up to see those players... but those armchair fans are going to have a shock when they get to their seats and realise their not as comfortable as the sofa in the house;)

Re: " DEBATE WITH A WELSH LIVERPOOL FAN TODAY "

Fri Jan 27, 2012 6:48 pm

I think they would fill it each game,
only because of the huge following the club has across the whole country, a liverpool fan told me once that there is a 10yr waiting list for season tickets :o :o :o

Like mentioned the west country and surrounding areas there must be huge amounts of Liverbirds!!!!!!!

Remember there's the whole novelty factor as it's only one season. There'll be plenty of people making sure they come as they may not get a chance to drive a few hours to liverpool for a match because their sofa's so much warmer.

IMO they'd get 55,000 to 60,000 over the course of the season.
If they carried on like have been recently however it would be about 50,000. Most plastics only go depending on how well their team is doing

I remember if they lost 3 league games 15,000 would disappear of their home game.

Back in the 70's quite a few Cardiff fans began to look to Liverpool as their 'second team' when we sold Toshack to them for £110k and he was an instant hit scoring in a derby win over Everton. Still feel we would have gone up that year if we hadn't sold our top striker :(
