Now I have been an Earnie fans since he was a kid.
I acknowledge he is not in his prime anymore, but we are short up front big time.
I dont expect him to start every week, but he could still be a great super sub in my opinion.
Earnie is on about £13,000 a week(never had a signing on fee).
Malky as you can see does not want him, but and I mean but, other clubs cant afford his wages, so we are struggling to get rid of him. He wasn't a Malky signing, the deal was virtually done by our club.
On Sat at Doncaster we had no striker on the bench, Earnie is fit and ready.
Opinions please.

Why sign a player before the new manager was in place then it just dont make any sence and who wanted him to sign within the club knowing MM was comming in very odd you ask me it was

Strange one this. First thing I said when I heard the team line up annouced was why dont we have a striker on the bench.
We certainly struggled up front yesterday, a change could have made the difference who knows.
Certainly makes me feel Earnie is not in MM plans.
Sun Jan 15, 2012 1:35 pm
then why wasnt he on the bench for donny away yesterday its clear hes not rated
Sun Jan 15, 2012 1:36 pm
when he was at forest I believe he came off the bench as a sub and scored a few goals. They didnt have to bad a season at the time.. Don't get why he couldnt have been brought on yesterday at about 70-80 mins when it didnt look like us scoring.. He might have nicked a goal for us
Sun Jan 15, 2012 1:36 pm
Earnie was an expensive mistake, one we may have to subsidise to off load; however, on my list of players to offload Earnie would be behind;
Taiwo
Parkin
Quinn
Naylor
Gypes
Gerrard

He's lost what made him slightly above average ( pace) also he can't trap a bag of cement.
Sun Jan 15, 2012 1:39 pm
I think its shocking that earnie isnt on the bench, he proved last week against wba that he still has the killer instint to finish off a chance, surely thats what is needed to win scrappy games like yesterday, fair enough if malky does not rate him but he is the best option we have at this moment,i was happy when he signed and i didnt expect him to start very often just used as an impact player but thats not happening for some reason, very sad in my opinion
Sun Jan 15, 2012 1:41 pm
Needs to move on to get regular football. Forget your sentimental thoughts, he is a shadow of the player he was.
Sun Jan 15, 2012 1:43 pm
Even if he didn't want him MM shouldn't be do stubborn, tryin to prove a point to someone?
Bloody hell even DJ wasn't that stubborn and continued to use the likes of purse, thomo etc when he wanted rid.
If he is fit then I struggle to believe it makes real sense to anyone to have no striker on the bench when you have earnie available. It's crazy.
I would think the club would want MM to get rid of earnie before bringing in another striker this window.
Sun Jan 15, 2012 1:44 pm
We won't see the fact that Earnie has still got it until miller has a long term injury. Malky couldnt play mason every game and Gestede puts so much effort in he is bound to pick up injurys. Really don't want miller to get injured but this seems to be the only opportunity earnshaw will get. And both miller and earnie could still do with a different type of striker to play with so that mason's development can be properly managed and Gestede can be the impact striker because when we need him he will be fit.
Sun Jan 15, 2012 1:48 pm
I must admit I was shocked when Earnie was not on the bench yesterday because I feel if Rudy had been fit he would have been on the bench. That is the clearest indication that Earnie is not only 4th choice striker but that both Miller and Mason would have to be injured for him to even get on the bench. In fact the only forward Earnie is probably ahead of is Parkin.
The facts speak for themselves Earnie does not figure in MM plans the question is who is MM planning on signing because no way are 3 forwards (Miller, Mason and Gestede) enough to get us promoted.
The situation is of more concern when you consider the lack of experience with Mason and Gestede.

The man's scored a load of important goals in his career, just think in the Playoff semi last season against the jacks, he came on, scored, and then very nearly equalised for Forest. We had him on the bench against Palace and in the last 10 minutes or so when we needed just that something extra and he wasn't brought on? It makes me think that there may be something we don't know about maybe he's not performing well in training or something?

Forever Blue, I agree its silly not to have striker on bench and Earnie can definitely still grab a goal, however he was very poor at West Brom although the argument would be he scored and assisted the other, hard one

It's not even a debate, a player who scored and assisted away from home against a prem team a week ago or no one
I'd have brought a youth striker on rather than no one but to ignore a player of earnie abilities is poor judgement.
Sun Jan 15, 2012 2:17 pm
malky stated he was his no.1 target and now it hasnt worked out the malays are aving the blame.
malky fucked up on this one IMO

MM joined City on 17 June
Earnie signed 6 July
While talks may have been going on before MM joined there was enough time for MM to pull the plug on the deal especially considering his wage.

That's the deal with Earnie and the managers who have got the best out of him are those who realised that.
You can't build a team around Earnie and you can't ask him to play a tactical role, but you can say 'score me 25 goals this season' and he will deliver.
He is a goal scorer full stop and will deliver goals in any kind of team who play any kind of system, but you have to accept the other deficiencies in his game to get it.

I do agree though that he wasnt MM choice of player, I honestly believe the deal was already well in motion. Maybe MM wanted to please some of the fans with a name, im not sure.
Problem is and it was the same with Koumas, people expect the player they used to know from 6-7-8 years ago whatever it is. It amazes me that people didnt expect earnie to be slower than he used to be

I remember both MM and Earnie saying they had spoken before he (Earnie) signed for the club so I agree MM could have pulled the plug on this deal.
I think we are missing something here as MM is no fool, there is a reason why Earnie is not being considered. Maybe it's as simple as 4-5-1 has proved to be our best formation and we all know Earnie cannot play the lone striker role because the ball just doesn't stick with him. Also Joe Mason offers more options than Earnie as he has played the lone striker role, he has played just behind Kenny Miller and he has also plays down the channels well.
Is it as simple as Earnie being a one trick pony.

Polo, City had already long before Malky had come in, been in contact with Earnshaw and had already done a deal behind the scenes.Gethin Jenkins rung one of the reporters in the Echo for Earnies tel, weeks before Malky had signed, a fact.

wether ball was rolling or not he should still be on the bench.
masdive naivety from malky yday imo.

I do agree Malky could of said no.

A waste of resources if he's not on the bench.
Sun Jan 15, 2012 2:39 pm
wether or not he signed and malky said yes or no is irrelevant. The fact remains that in a game like yesterday where we could have grabbed 3 vital points against a team thats struggling we should have had a striker on the bench. Earnie may be a shadow of his former self but he still gets goals and might have won us that game had he come on

I have to agree.
