I wonder if you would "find it funny" if one of your own family had to suffer from this disability.Maybe people dont have to lighten up,maybe you have to wise up

I've had people take the piss out of me for negative things a fair amount and I just get on with it. It's funny because in these situations it's rarely those directly affected by the "jibes" that say they are offended. It's always the do gooders who try to make themselves look better by speaking up and acting all self righteous.
If Cameron had said "Ed Balls is such a retard, it's like having someone with Tourette's sitting opposite me" then fair enough. That's offensive. However, in this instance he is using a fact and making a joke out of it. Tourette's randomly shout out at inappropriate times... so does Ed Balls (in Cameron's view). Honestly, how is that so overly offensive to people with Tourette's? Maybe we should actually ask someone with Tourette's rather than getting on those high horses?
Berwyn, I appreciate he needs to watch his choice of words due to the role he is in but I really don't think what he said was at all offensive. Just my opinion though!
... and before anyone says, no I am not a Cameron fan. I can't stand the smarmy c**t...
Oh wait... I apologise for saying something offensive about David Cameron... or is that not offensive because it was David Cameron? I need your help on this one citygardens!

Caution to all, citygardens73 is clearly of a morally superior position than the rest of us knuckle draggers. Why do looney leftists like you assume that you must defend people that have tourettes and the like. Perhaps a few of them actually like to have a bit of banter like the rest of us?

Not having ago at you personally Zabier, but there is nothing in that reply which can justify Cameron's jibe.
TBH it is not just the Tourette's suffers who would be offended by his words it would also be the relatives/carers who have to look after those who suffer with a dibilitating disability.
There is no excuse for someone in his position to be using such language, although in fairness he did offer an appology of sorts on the Andrew Marr show yesterday.

Tony, I understand what you mean but what I am trying to say is that I find it frustrating how some people can kick off so much about one group of people being offended when everyone says something that offends one group or another on a regular basis. There is a big difference between using a condition, disability or whatever as an act of humour and genuinely being disrespectful and offensive to that group. I think in recent times that difference has become unfortunately blurred.
I really find it hard to believe that someone can claim they have never said anything offensive against a particular group. It's human nature, we're not robots. So when people kick off so vigorously about things like this it just makes me chuckle at the hypocrisy of it all.
Maybe I was just brought up to not take life that seriously at all. I am sure it is all subjective anyway. I am confident there are just as many individuals with Tourette's that would back my side as would back citygardens' view.

Why is it a left wing thing exactly? I would have thought defending people with disabilities was a cross party thing not just a left wing thing. Or are you saying that the right wing don't give a toss about people with disabilities?

BTW - That term "Looney Left" did you think of that yourself or did you get it from The Sun?

It is a conundrum that when you go so far left you appear right wing and vice versa, the whole left/right spectrum is an ouroboros. And no i didn't get the term from the sun as i never read it, not sure exactly where i first heard the term but it is pretty common these days

Yes I'm pretty sure the term was invented by The Sun.
