" WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT OUR NEW GENERATION OF FANS? "

Sun Jan 08, 2012 11:08 am

I have supported Cardiff City for 37 years with pride passion and sometimes aggression. :old: Being in the lower divisions during the 80s & 90s i beleive we have lost a generation of fans. The fans we got now havent got the passion for football like we had and it shows today at the CCS. It's the older fans trying to get the atmosphere going. I am not comparing the CCS with Ninian Park as we will never get the same atmosphere as the old bear pit. the fans of today like to sit and watch the football they also want to know more what the club directors are upto. Worry more about swansea and what they are doing. i am glade i was around in the 70s 80s 90s thats when football supporters had Passion,Pride and Aggression all standing and singing together really getting behind the boys on the pitch. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: bring back the good old bad days.(sadly gone for ever)

I might be part of the new generation and I often join in with the singing. In fact almost everyone I've met know that I support Cardiff. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Im sick of being surrounded by Justin Bieber lookalikes pratting about on their phones seemingly caring about how the jacks are getting on etc
Thats why I applaud the lads beating the drum on Monday becuase at least they are trying
Its really a shame becuase Malky and the current team are restoring the pride back into Cardiff city and playing some excellent stuff on the pitch :old: :old:

Good post. This, too me,is the reason behind the lack of atmosphere at the new stadium. We have attracted a lot of new support, who,at least up to now, haven't got the passion us old timers, its got nothing to do with the stadium, its the people inside, this drum idea is embarrassing. One other thing regarding our new fan base.A lot of our older fans have picked up bans, say what you like, but they were always there when we were rubbish, and were shall we say a little more boisterous than our newer fans.

So you've all gone from blaming the stadium for shit atmosphere to your own fans? I can assure you i look nothing like justin bieber and i dont stand in the canton on my phone, your getting a handful of fans and tarnishing all "younger" fans with the same brush? thats the same as us youngers saying your all hooligans because you was around when that element of the club was the only thing people new about cardiff city ? Get a grip stop turning on your own fans ! :old: :old:

I'm one of this new generation of fans. I've been supporting since 2005 (I was 9 at the time) and i've got a ST in Canton 106 with a couple of mates. We're nothing like your average 14-17 year old boys. All got short hair, dont wear nike joggers and superdry jackets. Dont listen to your modern day RnB bullshit thats played over the radio these days. I personally love stuff like Oasis and The Stone Roses (seeing them this year :D ). And we're allways joining in with the chants and songs, never on our phones looking uninterested.
So i'd like to classify myself as one of the passionate fans, I know nothing like most of you supporting through the 70's etc.. but dont put all of us teenagers in the same boat as 'ruining the support'

I think it was the Huddersfield game in the Carling Cup where the Canton Stand was full of young fans who generated an excellent atmosphere which contributed to probably the best game at CCS this season.

Personally I'm lost why so many different sections of Cardiff fans look to blame each other for all the supposed ills at the club. It is not the young, the old, the disabled or corporate fans who are to blame it is all of us.

If something is broken then fix it by taking responisbilty, don't take the cowards way out by looking to blame other people.

Agreed! And i was one of those at Huddersfield, although i wouldnt say it was the best atmosphere this season, Reading was pretty good last week. I guess it was similar to Ninian Park in the 90s though

Dont understand all this "Ninian Park atmoshpere was amazing" rubbish, on the odd big game it was like a zoo granted, 90% of the time it was awful, you could hear a pin drop, maybe thats because there was only 7 of us

Spot on and couldn't agree more.

Great atmosphere is generated at away games where loads of young people go and enjoy a good sing.
I don't think age has anything to do with it at all tbh and so what they look at the jacks score, they pay for a seat, let them enjoy the day.

Its not just the younger generation its all ages that dont sing..
The diference with watching city in the 70s and 80s was most of the football on offer was diabolical so we made our own entertainment in the stands and sometimes only looked at the pitch if someone scored
Also in them days there also seemed to be loads of diferent headcases, funny characters that didnt really like football but just came for a laugh :ayatollah:

These days we are in a good league and our team play good football and lots of fans just come to watch .

You can blame new stadia or the new generation of fans (me being one of them, even though I sing and shout with the best of them), but the atmosphere will never be the same without the violence that was had in the 70s 80s 90s.....that violence supercharged the atmosphere and sustained the passion and aggression. Fortunately or unfortunately (however you may look at it) those days will never return

so because they werent alive when cardiff were shit, they aren't as good a fan? because their hair and clothes are different they're not as good a fan?
the fact that they are going to the games and not sat watching utd or lpool on tv is something, i am 26, and i cant pretend to have gone to my first game age 6 months and seen it all through 25 years or anything. but i do know that i go to the games i buy the shirt and i spend most of my day on messageboards and the website and checking bbc etc for any new gossip or stories.
i think that is what matters if people want to go to the game and check their phones and do their hair then good for them, they could be out nicking your tv while you're at the game instead, or sat on the sofa watching sky

Can't people move on? This is 2012, not the 70's, 80's or 90's. Every club's fans change as time goes on unfortunately. I'm part of this "new generation", I started supporting Cardiff in 2005 when my dad took me to my first game when I was 10 and I've been a season ticket holder since 2007. I go with my mate in the Ninian Stand (117) where my ST seat is and we sing every game. I also go to most away games when I can, depending on money and if I have college or not. Can we stop blaming other fans and just do what we can to get the CCS bouncing. The games we've had at the new stadium such as Cardiff v Leicester in the play offs and Cardiff v Swansea where we beat them 2-1 had an amazing atmosphere, so no one can say we can never create a good atmosphere. I would actually compare those two games to the atmosphere we created from the last few years at Ninian Park.

Without a new generation there wont be a next generation.

I've supported CCFC for 30 + years. I've been in exile since 1989 (Carmarthen, Bath, Wolves, Dartford, Bradford-on-Avon, Devizes and now Andover). As an exile i've gone through phases of hardly watching (finance issues) through to have season tickets. I have 4 children (14, 13, 8 and 1-ages not names ;) ). I take my 2 oldest boys (Charlie & Tommy) whenever i can-been to Oxford, Reading and WBA plus a few homes this season. My boys absolutely love the away games because of the great atmosphere. They enjoy the home games too but not as much.

We need 25000 home fans every game. All i want is those 25000 people getting behind the team and generating a good atmosphere-the new ground has the potential to be louder than Ninian-the stewards need to lighten up and let people stand. At the 3 away games this season we have all stood and even 800 fans at oxford made more noise than 22000 home fans.

I tell you what all the old heads in the grandstand who were around in the 70's,80's,90's are a right lively old bunch aint they???.......... singing there hearts out every game :? ........Yes definatly ALL the new kids fault as ALL the old fans are still rocking the place

Accept it some young lads will be shit..........just as some old chaps are miserable bastards and vice versa  :ayatollah:

..On a serious note times change, when i was 15 on the bob bank i never knew the score till after the game half the time........Now i enjoy actually watching city play decent football with my two lads and hopefully a good atmosphere :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I agree with you there Paul, But not to sell our allocation at Palace is sad in my opinion. We have enough of the old School alone to have sold out. Yes i understand finances and taking time off work but had it been the top Clubs we would of sold out, so there is enough Fans out there that could of afforded it.
Yes there was some very special times at Ninian and there have been a few at the CCS as well. Leicester and when we beat the Jacks as well, so we can make an Atmo. But sitting down has made us lazy.
A bit like many years ago when i done the weights i trained like an Animal in our local gym that was a shit pit. Full of sawdust sweat and shit. But then i went to a posh gym and trained like a pussy. To much comfort has made us soft.

why so bitter m8? all i am saying is the new generation of fans are not so passionate. we know the times have changed and the club and stewards dont help but the passion has gone. All new fans are welcome to the CCS and you support the city. just saying your not as noisey as us oldies were.
