What If West Ham offer £6 million for Whitts?

Wed Jan 04, 2012 3:57 pm

Would the club accept it or not?

I'd hope they'd tell West Ham where to go, but the reality will probably be different.

i just wouldn't accept anything for him and if the club sell him in my eyes that shows a lack of determination by the board in my eyes

They could offer £100 million, doesn't mean Whitts will want to go.

I agree, but 6 mill is a lot of money for 1 player, so they might accept it. I would imagine they'd hire extra bodyguards to keep Malky at bay, unless they're thinking of buying 2 or more players with the money.

You would have to sell for that, but as long as they give malkay all the money to strengthen.

Have they got any players worth swopping for him? Personally I would like to see him stay given where we are in the league. I like some of the older supporters can remember when the club was going for promotion and we sold John Toshack to Liverpool for £110,000 we didn't get promoted and there are still some fans never coming back because of that sale!!!!!!

So before the board listen to offers be careful what you wish for.Mr Steve Borley can relate to the Toshack sale I'm sure?

Selling one of your best players to your promotion rivals would be plain stupid..

If we get promoted, we`ll get a lot more than 6 mill just for being in the prem..

Wouldnt do us any good in the January window, even if we can use that money to buy players, alot of clubs will put a higher price tag on their players, as its a difficult window to get players.

In the summer, we could sell and use that 6 million to bring in players at a cheaper rate, as clubs can integrate them more efficiently in pre-season training.

Its like Malky said, hes here to build a team, not destroy it, especially if he sees Whitts as part of his future plan. :ayatollah:

No defo not Nedd. We cant sell any of our best players if we are going for promotion !! we have a happy settled squad dont upset the apple cart :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

yeah get what you mean but i would rather keep Whitts and have a larger chance of going up and earning the minimum of £84 million extra  but that just my opinion.

Yes I would as long as the money was immediately re-spent on more players.

Annis do you know how much of it would have to go to Ranson? I know Carl said the loan was 3.5m (plus we sold chops) but surely it's only a percentage of a deal not all of it.

Yes Luke its £3.5 mill and thats the end of the matter then, no interest as a deal was struck at £3.5 mill. :ayatollah:

Re: What If West Ham offer £6 million for Whitts?

In some obscure way the ranson deal actually benefits us as we are less likely to sell players (ones we dont want to sell) unless we get an over the top price for them to compensate how much we give ranson and co.

So they would take the entire amount?

No wonder the maladyians haven't been keen on selling players if we have no interest payable on it.
I certainly wouldn't sell in January then.

That is one way of looking at it, but the Premiership millions are a bit of a myth. Whatever extra we earn it will be pissed up against the wall by wages/transfer fees & agents. Also that £84 to 90m is spread over 4 seasons if we get relegated in the first season.

However, £6m at this level paid in one go is mega money and you could do a lot with it.

Not really.

You think the deal won't have some time limit? We got a decade without selling, releasing players only?

I'd be amazed if there wasn't a deadline for the money to be repaid by. If not from player sales, from other money.

After thinking about it, i really wouldnt accept 6mill now, at 1st i thought, Yes - good amount. But surely hes worth keeping to see if we can go up this season. Whitts will still be worth around 6 mill even if we dont go up, if we do go up and he shines, hes worth a lot more again. If we dont go up, then consider selling to the highest bidder if the club need the money

GG The question was a Hypothetical one about a £6m bid received now during this window.

I can understand your logic but in all reality Whitts will never be valued at £6m again during what is left of his career.
That's why I have plumbed to take it now.

I agree with that tony, you would have to take 6 mill, hope it didn't happen but we could turn it down, and then whitts gets injured for season,so we lose him anyway.

I don't see him as a long term big Sam player, maybe they will go up a little but don't think they will by much.

More chance Norwich coming in with a better offer imo

I've been told West Ham will go up to 6 mill. We'll have to wait and see whether it's right or wrong.

Seems a lot to me for west ham especially knowing what big Sam can do with 6m.
Who knows tho
