" DISGRACE TO FOOTBALL "

Wed Dec 14, 2011 1:19 pm

Carl our fans leader( ) got slated by some when he told how the Malaysians had to bail out Michael Chopra with his gambling debts, Chops had some very heavy people after him at the time and yes it did effect his football, but he continued to gamble and play out at night and even the night before games. Carl got slated by some for putting out the truth and called a liar, now look once again.

MY OPINION MICHAEL CHOPRA IS A DISGRACE TO FOOTBALL and I USE TO BE ONE OF HIS BIGGEST FANS.

Town Lent Chopra £250,000 to Pay Off Debts
Wed 14th Dec 2011 12:23
Town lent striker Michael Chopra £250,000 to pay off his gambling debts, it emerged at a trial at Newcastle Crown Court yesterday. Defendants charged with processing and supplying cocaine claim £50,000 in cash found in a car related to a debt repayment made by the 27-year-old frontman, who recently spent three weeks in the Sporting Chance Clinic as he tackles his long-term gambling issues.

Blues chief executive Simon Clegg, who gave evidence via a video-link, confirmed that the club had helped Chopra settle some of his debt issues: “I feel I have a duty of care for all the players who represent our football club, to try and support and assist them with any problems they may have so they can concentrate on what they are employed to do, which is play football.

“He certainly owed money to individuals down in Wales and others in the north of the country,” he added.

“They were monies owed to individuals, the best of my knowledge is they were not institutions, they were individuals, not the sort of people I would be going to if I wanted to borrow money.

“I was aware Michael was concerned about repaying the money on time. He needed to pay the money back or he would find himself in trouble.”

Clegg said the figure involved, which we understand to be a loan, was “somewhere in the region of a quarter-of-a-million pounds” with a “significant percentage” relating to Chopra’s gambling problems. A debt collector was previously reported to have approached the former Newcastle and Sunderland striker at Town’s Playford Road training ground.

Despite the cash paid by Town, Chopra is understood to have further debts with his problems believed to have strained his relationship with his father.

Four men are charged with running a drugs factory at a flat on Wearside with the prosecution alleging that the £50,000 found in a Jaguar relates to drug deals, while the defence argue it was a payment from Chopra. The case continues with Clegg not expected to give further evidence.

A club spokesman told TWTD that Town will not be commenting on the matter.

I pity him. He could have had it all but lacked the self discipline and respect for others ruin him. I am sure his heart is in the right place but a football talent was wasted on him. :(

im sure with all the negative publicity this scandal is sure to bring, Ipswich will have no choice but to eventually terminate chopras contract

im just glad we offloaded him when we did,the malaysians would have not stood for it and certaintly not lent him a large sum of money to pay some truly shady loan sharks

They gave him a big advance to pay of his debts, but that never seemed to solve his problem.

Very sad indeed.
No wonder the club got rid ASAP, 1m doesn't seem so bad for him now.

I got on with Chopra but there were plenty that didn't. I wonder what he'll do when he finally ends his playing career. He can't really do anything else so chances are he'll end up on benefits a few years from now with nothing to show for his playing years.
Trouble is, because he's pissed a lot of people off with his big time charlie attitude he's not going to have anyone to turn to when that happens. Perhaps this is a lesson to anyone who thinks they are above everyone else. Your world can come crashing down and when it does don't expect much sympathy.

I was furious last year with everything surrounding Chops! I was told some abysmal stories about him, sone happening on match days, that the club had to know about, yet still he was picked to play, even when completely out of shape and form! What sort of message does that send to players who are model pros at the club!? I'm sure Mackay would not tolerate it! In my eyes the man is a disgrace to his profession! If chopra had been professional last year and got his normal quota of goals we would be up! However no one can get away from the fact that Jones must shoulder a lot of blame! While some will say he can't be responsible for everything players do off the pitch he was well aware of his problems, and fitness issues, yet continued to play him! This not only sends a bad message to the individual but to the squad as a whole! It's no wonder discipline had all but collapsed at the end of the season!

Annis...

As much as i see where youre coming from, i have to say that i totally disagree that Chopra is a disgrace.

I don't understand why a footballer earning his kind of money would want/need to gamble large amounts in the first place but gambling is probably the worst addiction there is.

I'm sure he wants to stop, i'm sure he doesn't enjoy losing all of his money, i'm sure he doesn't enjoy being bailed out by his clubs and chased by loan sharks.

But it's not as easy as people might think to just stop gambling. Trust me.

As somebody else on this topic commented, i just feel sorry for him really.

I certainly don't think it's at all fair to call him a disgrace, because he's not. He just needs help.

Well it wasn't just our Fans leader was it !! Nathan (Milly) put out the story of Chops being in a Newcastle Casino when Jones said he was tucked up in bed and our Nath was slagged off like shit on this Forum, But he has been proved correct as well. But i trusted your info Nathan, :o :D as i also had it confirmed by some one in the know. One thing over the years on here i know who to trust and who not to.I know who to listen to and who to forget. Well done Nathan/ Carl. And another who will remain anonymous, you know who you are :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I find it strange he's mixing with coke dealers

Iv seen him gamble he's an animal, he'l bet horses race after race, he wont leave until he wins a race, and takes home a big - profit, in most cases it never happens

the casino's i think are his main demon though

Jimbo, Chops was in the casino on a couple of occasions less than two hours before kick off, yet DJ would pick him.

Come wage day at the end of the month Chopra owed out more than his wages to fellow players, there use to be some right arguments in the dressing room, he even bounced cheques on players, yet Jones looked after him, but certain other players were virtually killed off by Jones for doing virtually nothing.

I remember you, Milly(Nathan) from this forum saying the day before we were playing a game in Yorkshire that he knew for a fact Chopra was in Newcastle in the casino, he got absolutely slaughtered for telling the truth. Its not us the fans at fault its the players like Chopra who are worshipped by thousands and idolised, its them who are at fault.

He's a cock, I met him on a few occasions, and I got the impression he thought he was too good to talk to normal fans and that he was richer and better.

Well Chops you won't end up better off and I predict you will die a pauper, it's a shame it should be so different, you mug....

Re: " DISGRACE TO FOOTBALL "

If you like to gamble, I tell you I'm your man
You win some, lose some, it's - all - the same to me
The pleasure is to play, it makes no difference what you say
I don't share your greed, the only card I need is
The Ace Of Spades
The Ace Of Spades

Playing for the high one, dancing with the devil,
Going with the flow, it's all a game to me,
Seven or Eleven, snake eyes watching you,
Double up or quit, double stakes or split,
The Ace Of Spades
The Ace Of Spades

You know I'm born to lose, and gambling's for fools,
But that's the way I like it baby,
I don't wanna live forever,
And don't forget the joker!

Pushing up the ante, I know you've got to see me,
Read 'em and weep, the dead man's hand again,
I see it in your eyes, take one look and die,
The only thing you see, you know it's gonna be,
The Ace Of Spades
The Ace Of Spades

Who By ?. Everyone knew he had troubles with gambling there was even songs/chants about it , that wasn't why some fans wanted him out . It was more do with drinking the night before the game , that is a slightly different issue.
Quite a few players run up Hugh debts and still perform on the Pitch, after all even John Arne Riise run up huge debts even playing for Liverpool and on Premiership wages , but he still gave his all on the pitch. I never questioned Chora commitment when on the Pitch he always gave 100% effort imo

Annis - on one occasion last year money collectors from Newcastle came down looking for him! Just over an hour before kick off Chopra was in Jones' office crying and begging for help! Jones still played him! Unsurprisingly he was shit and we drew the game!! Chopra completely let us down and Jones mismanaged him horribly! I know Jones did a decent job here and I think he will go on to have success at other clubs but last year left a terrible taste in my mouth and Im not yert ready to forgive him! I'm sure in years to come I'll look back at the Dave Jones are fondly but last year he was awful!

Serious he was addicted 24/7.
Chops fell out with a lot of his fellow players through it.

I feel really sorry for Chopra, he's been my favourite player ever since I first saw him play and was absolutely gutted when he went off to Sunderland.

Hopefully he can get sorted out and return to his former glory.

I recall Milly telling me the story about Chopra in the Ninian. I recall other stories being said on here. The story tellers got slated but I thought time will tell who is telling the truth. Well it certainly has and I am glad to say I never doubted them on here.

I've got to know these guys you see and they are not liars. So now I hope a certain individual is reading.
