**Keenor Statue fund just short of important milestone**

Tue Dec 13, 2011 9:45 pm

Just got back from the latest Fred Keenor Statue Committee meeting at the Ninian Park pub which included the usual committee and also Vince Alm, Mark Watkins and Irene of the CCSC, and the main bit of news was that the whole fund now stands just £700.00 short of the £45,000 required to trigger the release of Cardiff City Council's pledged £15k.

This would obviously take the fund up to a fantastic £60k, and we'd all be on the home straight, with the sculptor able to then finish the full scale cast that would be the basis of the bronzing procedure.

I fully appreciate (and am feeling it myself) that it's a very difficult time of year with Christmas approaching and that times are difficult in any case, but I think if we could all spread the word and dig out a few more pound coins, we'd achieve this before the New Year.

Knowing that we're well underway to getting the statue finally erected would be a fantastic way to go into 2012.

If you can offer anything by way of a donation, or even an item that could be sold on ebay etc to raise a little more, I'm sure all City fans would be very appreciative.

The Fund bank account details are at the link below:

From Walesonline:
Fans can donate to the appeal fund through the Co-operative Bank: Account name: Fred Keenor Statue Fund or FKSF; account no 65392368; sort code 08-92-99.

Cheques can also be sent c/o CCST to PO Box 4254, Cardiff CF14 8FD, with "Fred Keenor Appeal" on the top of the envelope.

Let's remember why we're doing this:

* To create awareness of and recognise Fred Keenor's mammoth efforts for both Cardiff City FC and Wales
* To add a unique focal and tangible addition to our stadium
* To commemmorate the 1927 FA Cup winning squad as a whole
* Perhaps even to create a valuable meeting place for City fans before the match ("meet you at the statue at 2pm"!)
* Add something that we can tell our kids about as they start to support the club

Thanks for any help on this!!

Hopefully we'll have it erected this time next year! I donated when I ordered my season ticket, I like to think that I've done my bit for now. If I go to the CCST office before a game will I be able to donate there? I really cant wait to see this statue outside our ground. Might give the fans a bit of a lift as well!

Remember this. Arsenal are a huge club in London with 60,000 plus at their stadium every week. They probabky didn't have to do as much fund raising as we do. But i'm sure we'll feel like we've acomplished something when its up! :ayatollah:

When I first looked at this (Keenor statue idea in 2007, not this thread lol), I rang the studio that created the Bobby Moore statue outside Wembley and they advised that it cost £750,000  Needless to say, I shit a brick and thought ours would be dead in the water

Still some way to go though, but fantastic to see such positive responses here lads, nice one.

With other news today, we could well end up with the ground to ourselves, and a gleaming new Keenor statue outside :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: **Keenor Statue fund just short of important milestone**

I would love to see the Statue up, its such a shame, the trust(certain members) never worked with everyone. I would of loved a lot more people to have got involved.I am sure my small comment will certainly get this topic going and might even help. One day it will be there. :ayatollah:
Seeing rugby statues in town paid for by the council hurts.

Great to now see Vince on board, now I can see it happening sooner rather than later. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

This MB has some of the most generous and publically spirited fans at CCFC, as the recent fund raising for Mike Dye's family and Aiden Rosser has proved recently.

May be we should think of following jhippno offer and find 50 members willing to put up £15 each?

At the very least it would embarrass those Trust Members who have it in for AAMB and refuse to acknowledge us.

I'm willing to give £15 if there are another 49 out there.

PS I do have one light hearted footnote, may be FK Appeal should wait until the end of February before commissioning the statue cast? If we win the League Cup the cast might need to be changed to one of Kevin McNaughton or Mark Hudson ;)

Couldnt we have just one more bucket collection this weekend ? I reckon there will be one hell of a crowed this Saturday and we are sure to get 700.

I've already donated some in the past but i'll defo donate another £15.
I would like to see one of Whitts go up one day. As he's now made 200 appearances for us and still counting! Hopefully he'll score the winner for us at Wembley! :ayatollah:

If we could get 1 sorted that would be great. I'd put a few quid in! Desperate for this £700 before the new year!

Some very positive responses here lads, cheers.

I personally think this goes beyond any feelings (or lack of) regarding the Trust. The truth is that the idea came to me before the Trust was even created (Nov 2007 - Trust came in 2008 I believe) and I pitched the idea a couple of times to a premature Trust before it got taken on as an aim by Corky and the rest of the board in the very early days.

Original petition:
http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/fre ... orial.html

Suffice to say, it would be on around £1,000 without the Trust's input and man hours, all voluntary.

For once, can we put all that aside and get on with getting the statue up.

Fair play, I am glad I have found out its one of my old mates Arthur who started it all regarding the Statue. :ayatollah:
Am I right in thinking our Club gave £1 for every person that attended a home friendly two years running and that they did a big do in the club and thousands was raised from that as well and Our Club deserve a good pat on the back and the same goes for you. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Hopefully the trust have arranged a bucket collection for this Saturdays game. :ayatollah:
Be very happy to donate this Saturday for a Statue that is long over due. :ayatollah:

Cheers Annis for the support. This is certainly one thing that needs united fans, as it won't happen otherwise, and that would be unthinkable. It's already 80 odd years overdue :o

As for the bucket collection Saturday Gwyn, it's a great idea, but we're going to struggle as it's such short notice and the club have plans in place to consider other charities, so we can't unfairly hog the public's generosity when there are also other amazing causes like Ty Hafan, Cancer Research etc.

We do have buckets ready for use however - it's still short notice, and there are obvious security / H&S issues to consider, but how about I arrange to collect those buckets, and fans off here and elsewhere can be responsible for their own bucket in a pub in Canton / Grangetown on Saturday and we arrange to collect them off said people after the game?

This is all off the top of my head right now, so would need to be authorised, but I can't see it being too big an issue. I reckon you'd fill 5-6 buckets in 5-6 pubs, don't you?

If you all agree, I'll write to the other committee members this morning and post back later today.

Arthur, I wasn't referring to the bucket collection, and to be honest I think our fans must be fed up of them by now and we need to come up with something more original, I was referring to the offer the lad mad where he would donate fifty quid if forty others would donate fifteen, got my interest and hopefully lot's of others.

p.s. Annis - regarding the club - they have been nothing short of awesome in their support for this and in particular Wayne Nash who has taken this on as almost a personal challenge. He's personally headed and advanced the club's involvement in this and put a lot of hours in himself.

Yes, the club donated £1 from two pre-season friendlies, plus allowed people to donate when buying their S/Ts and have held events that have raised thousands for the cause, such as the Ricky Tomlinson and more recently the Frank Hennessy night.

Full credit to CCFC and Wayne Nash - we still have some way to go, but with their support in particular, we'll get this statue up at long last.

But what about the idea to get 50 individuals from this MB to donate £15 each? We have 4 or 5 volunteers already and if something official was set up I'm sure it would snowball.

Donations can be made:

Fans can donate to the appeal fund through the Co-operative Bank: Account name: Fred Keenor Statue Fund or FKSF; account no 65392368; sort code 08-92-99.

Cheques can also be sent c/o CCST to PO Box 4254, Cardiff CF14 8FD, with “Fred Keenor Appeal” on the top of the envelope

Anyone familiar with setting up a paypal donation account - Perhaps Gwyn is able to?

I'm happy to do it that way and indeed I have donated in one fashion or other a total of £50 before now.

Just thought it would be nice (for the need of a better word) to have made a forum donation.

Gwyn / Tony - I'm with you now - was up to my eyes earlier.

Yes, that would be incredible if this MB's member could get together to raise that £700 in this way. I'm no expert with paypal etc, but how about Annis (or other AAMB member) sets up their own Paypal a/c and let the individual people joining this 50 people scheme, pay theirs into that, then it get's presented (somehow) to the main Campaign fund??

Brilliant cheers. As Paypal is set to an email address, perhaps the mods here can set up a paypal account in the name of this board, or create one such as : fredkeenorstatuefund@cardiffcityforum.co.uk ????

That way, all your member's donations can be noted separately and then transferred to the main fund when you hit the figure? Could even get one of those huge cheque thingys if you like to be handed over for photo opps etc

Annis - can you or your mods set up a Paypal a/c for this collection? See my post above in this threadfor an idea of the type of email address that would explain exactly what it is etc

Need to get this done asap in order to get the '50 members' scheme up and running.

I see there's another thread about a bucket collection Saturday - reasons why this won't happen are above, in the thread I'm posting in now, plus my alternative of a last minute bucket collection around the pubs Saturday wasn't agreed on.

If you can set this up for your forum, then all the 50 people can donate straight into that to achieve the £700 shortfall.

But she is in the theatre virtually every day and night with my daughter till January 24th.
