Whiits for Wales ?

Wed Nov 09, 2011 8:21 am

Ive heared a rumour that under residency rules Whitts will become available for Wales selection in 2 months time ...... if so then do you think he would if asked by Gary Speed to play for us ? Lets be honest quite a few of the current squad are " Englishmen in red shirts " so why not ................ talking of which I see Collison has pulled out of squad altho he played for WHU last weekend !!!!

Would he want to tho? Played for England u21s. Id be surprised if he did play for Wales but you never know

the home countries have an agreement not to use that rule. The other guys that play for Wales all have Welsh family, so unless Whittingham does too, it won't happen...

"Championship player Peter Leyroy Whittingham of the Cardiff City could well be gaining international soccer honours with his adopted country of Wales, his father Lerroy said that he expected his son to chose to represent his native land of Jamacia whilst his mother Chi Chi from North Korea refused to comment."

Does playing in competitive U-21 internationals rule this out?

Yer I agree with you a few plastic Welshmen in that team so why not offer whits a chance to play for the country that he now lives in.

Earnie grew up in Wales that is all he knows. So i do not have an argument on that score. But when Wales Play England who would Whitts want to win ?? If the answer is not Wales then he should not play for Wales. Sorry

Hope that's sarcastic. Did you go to the palace game? He absolutely bossed the game!

ryan giggs was born in cardiff and lived for a few years there. i believe his dad was welsh.

earnie was born in zambia, has a welsh mother and moved here when he was very young.

both more than eligable !!

He'd be welcome in the squad but would not get in the first choice xi ahead of Ramsey and Allen at the moment, although he is an out standing player, better than Ledley any way! Also Vaughan has played well there recently, we've got a good squad coming along!

You could ask the same question the Englishmen in red shirts with a Welsh Grandparent already in the team too couldnt you , I mean where were Morison , Collison and Williams born and bred and at what point in their lives did they wake up and suddenly realize " OMG Im a Welshman " ? Say for example myself born and bred in Wales suddenly found out I have a German grandparent then I wouldnt change completely would I ?? The days of 100% pulling on the Welsh shirt have long gone , besides how often do we play England anyway ?

Wait ! Vinny went out of his way to learn the Welsh anthem and he told the other players to sing it too.
That more than some of our Cardiff City supporters can do , they cant even learn Men Of Harlech !!

Sorry to disappoint, but Whitts is proud to be born and bred in Cov. He loves Cardiff and enjoys the lifestyle down here, but he won't play for Wales, plus the boys would ruin him for banter if he did!

gigs never played for England Under 21 He played for England schools as he was in school in England He however could not play for the senior England team in anyway both parents welsh both sets of grandparents welsh and bone in Wales

Re: Whiits for Wales ?

Giggs played for England schools, for which qualification is the country the school is in. He was born in Cardiff, and his parents, and, I'm fairly sure, his grandparents were Welsh too. His Dad was a rugby league player, who moved north when Ryan was about 6 years old.

Whitts is an Englishman, and a top bloke. Played for the U-21s. Would be very surprised if he were to play for Wales. Does not seem right, somehow. Besides, we need him fit and rested after the international breaks. There was an interview with Whitts in the Barnsley programme, where he says how useful the breaks are for him. :ayatollah: He would walk into the Wales team, though.
