I believe that my view was justified after today's result, what do you think?

Players coming down the M4? So we are loaning from London based Premiership teams?

That said I completely agree with the defence problem. Today they seemed unable to deal with crosses coming in from wide areas and may be the Goalkeeping position should be looked at again as Marshall isn't commanding the box like he should.

Sorry I do not agree, Marshall at one time screamed KEEPERS BALL so loud I jumped in the Ninian and Hudson ignored him that is bad defending end of plus he is suppose to be captain then five minutes later again Marshall shouts again and Turner ignores him.

Marshal is trying his best I stand by what I have been saying for 2 years our central defenders are letting our goalkeeper down

Do we actually need more defenders or just settle in with the ones we have?

The goals against today (and I just watched them again on SSN) were odd. First was a flukey deflection, the second was even more odd. The third was weak.
When we play three in midfield we look pretty solid, it went a bit ropey at the end after Mcphail went off and Whitts went wide.
Personally I think we need an experienced midfield watercarrier who can kill a game. (But we've been saying that for years!)
And someone with a bit of magic out wide.

No we don't need new defenders just need to get right mix with what we got.

I absolutely agree that both central defenders were terrible today and if you are looking to sort out the defence then that has to be the first port of call.

After that I would look also at the Goalkeeping position because Marshall has got previous when it comes to flapping around in the box and not dealing properly with loose balls and getting them cleared.

He also seems vulnerable to powerfully hit long shots as was demonstrated against Ipswich and again today

So are the full backs. Both good going forward but neither of them are top defenders. Very very rarely stop the opposition getting their crosses into the box. Quite obvious to me why "Super Kev" can't get in the Scottish team and no interest in him from Premier League teams.

Can't agree with this assessment of Marshall, as there's been a huge improvement in his performances this season, so he should be given credit for working hard on his game! He also had no chance with Scotland's unchallenged effort last week and I think Drinkwater's free kick took a deflection on it's way in today as well!

With regard to the centre back pairing, I thought Turner had a superb game today, with Hudson playing quite well, at least until the last 15-20 minutes, when he fell away somewhat!

I'm not blaming Hudson for their 2nd & 3rd goals, as I was unable to see exactly what went on from my vantage point and will have to watch the highlights later!

You have to take into account though, that we were playing against the worse team to come to Cardiff this season and that we have now conceded 9 goals in the last 3 matches, so I'd be very surprised if Malky doesn't consider bringing in Gerrard or Blake for Hudson soon, as he's clearly not going to omit Turner, having just paid out £750,000 for him! As well as that, I thought Turner played very well last Saturday and today has only gone to cement his first choice place in the next league fixture! :ayatollah:

Carl
I read your article and having watched the goals from London rd and again today can i add my comments. Barnsley were the worst side I've seen for many a year but how on earth can they score 3 goals against us? We have a goalkeeper that does'nt leave his line and for me the two goals scored in the second half are down to him. Until we sort out our brittle defence we will continue to struggle. Their defence was comical and thats the only reason we won.

Re: THIS MORNING I WROTE

To be honest i thought both Hudson and Turner played well today but has a team we switched off for 10 to 15 minutes and conceded two soft goals. In particular their second goal looked to me like Whitts could have cleared off the line but thought it was going wide  Agree that Marshall could have been more commanding but over all i think he's a decent keeper.

Despite conceding 3 goals i would prefer to concetrate on the positives and some of our football today was sublime could and maybe should have had 7 goals thought Cowie was MOM never stopped running, closing down and well taken goal also Joe Mason is very good but being so young could be really special :ayatollah: :ayatollah: The one thing you couldn't fault today was entertainment and at the end of the day what would you prefer a 5 - 3 win or a 2 - 0 win :?: Same points and same goal difference i know what i would prefer :old: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I agree, don't even think the defence needs changing just more time together.
I want to see the goals again before blaming.

Completely agree and not just because 5 - 3 is more "entertaining" than 2 - 0. Remember, if two teams are equal on points and have same goal difference at the end of the season then the team that has scored more goals wil finish the higher of the two.
This of course is what happened when we finished 7th a few seasons ago; we had same points as P.N.E. - same goal difference - but they had scored 1 goal more than us over the season and took the last play-off place from us. :(
6 of their goals coming in one match of course.

3-4 seasons ago we had just 3 CB at the club - Loovens : Johnson : Purse : ( along with Super Kev and Blake)
I Would take any of those 2 to play CB Today from what we have now.

As for a "NEW CF" - Carl use your powers and tell the board, what i have been saying for the last 2 WEEKS...

GO AND GET JORDAN RHODES ( £750,00 ) This guy is worth more than that :ayatollah:

What a strange comment.

I think we have enough strength and quality in our back four, we just need to let it settle down. There seems to be a breakdown in communication between Marshall behind the back 4 and a gap in the middle just in front of the back four.

i cant believe people thought the CB's played bad today i thought the were solid, the reason we conceeded 2 late goals was because the midfield stopped working and allowed the pressure on us !!

every time we conceed goals it isnt always the CBs fault. we should defend from the top

Along with probably most City fans, I recognize we need to bring in more players to the squad........Yes most city fans recognize

the need for quality signings to be made, but i'm not sure Malky does,i hope i'm wrong
