" Jay Bothroyd I'm No One Cap Wonder "

Sun Sep 04, 2011 10:38 am

Jay has been talking about his England cap last season and in doing so has confirmed what we all knew by saying;

"No disrespect to Cardiff, but when I went back to club training after being with England I knew I had to play in the Premier League"

Just to let you know Jay as Cardiff fans we all knew your head had been turned and by the way you are disrespecting Cardiff City and ALL the other players who shared that dressing room with you. :x :x :x

He's so good, he's been sat on the bench with Agyemang picked ahead of him.

Jay,

How much would you like to bet that one cap is all you'll win?

And you certainly weren't a "wonder".

Just one of the "big ego's" that the Malaysians described at our club, and along with one or two others, we are well rid off.
Having said that, i believe that the biggest ego of all, that the Malaysians described, was aimed at Mr Jones himself.
Time will tell!

No, thats just saying he had a taste of playing with a higher standard of player and he wanted more. Nothing wrongn with being ambitious.

The lads in the England dressing room are on a different level to those in the City dressing room. Thats not disrespectful its FACT.

No one could argue that the standard of player in the England team is superior to that of the Cardiff City club squad but that club squad did include Craig Bellamy a player of proven PL quality. Now Jay would do well to get anywhere near the level that Craig Bellamy has reached in his career.

The point here is that Jay has turned up at QPR where despite NW doing a terrific job of putting together a squad of players with proven PL experience that squad is hardly going to threaten the England squad. The majority of England players will still come from the top 6 teams in the PL and QPR are not yet at that level.

In making this statement Jay is clearly showing that his head was turned by his England cap and we all know the player that went away on England duty never returned to the club. Also there were many Cardiff players who didn't go out on the lash before the Middlesbrough game they were giving it their all to get the club promoted, sadly Jay Bothroyd had already decided he was off to the highest bidder in the PL and when it comes to standards give me the Kevin McNaughtons of this world ahead of Jay Bothroyd any day of the week.

Shame he didn't work harder after getting his call up to England. He might have got us promoted and got his wish of Premier League football with us. I thought QPR would go down a week ago. Their work in the transfer market has been excellent. I'm not sure Jay will be able to do the business in the Premiership to be honest. He only got an England call up because of a huge number of injuries. He should have been a bit more respectful to his colleagues I guess. However, I would be starstruck if I was training with the likes or Rooney and that.

Re: " Jay Bothroyd I'm No One Cap Wonder "

I appreciate that the power of association at the England camp got a firm grip on Jay, but it only gave him one motive, & that was too leave Cardiff city FC as soon as possible, it did not motivate him to work hard enough to get us promoted.
Lazy,,, & imho, totally unforgivable! :x

its a pity he did not bring back the england and premiership attitude he had picked up in those few days training with the england squad.
all he brought back was a miserable demeanour and mostly league one performances for the rest of the season.
i had heard he had been tapped up by qpr in the fixture at loftus road so no coincidence that his only performance of note was against them at the ccs in the return fixture.
he has all the ability but none of the work ethic needed to make a success of it in the premier league and as for future england caps gordan banks will get capped again before he does

Re: " Jay Bothroyd I'm No One Cap Wonder "

Sun Sep 04, 2011 2:55 pm

Bothroyd went off 8 mins in against PNE in what would end up being a 1-1 draw. Including that game, it was:

DLWLLWD (in the league) a very average set of results

When he came back it was 10 wins
6 Draws
4 loses

7 games without Jay - We lost 3 times
20 games with game - We lost 4 times

Did Jay play badly? Or do people say Jay badly and that is the perception

He got 5 goals during this time.
Bellamy got 6
Chopra got 4 (albeit with limited appearances)

Not great returns but Jay's isn't below wha our team was getting.

You want to look at where we lost 2nd place? Try Dave Jones who failed to bring in or use a style of play that didn't rely on Jay. It's not his fault we were shit without him. We were four points of 2nd place a win against Preston a win against Borough away that's it that's the difference. We scored more goals than QPR so that's not the problem, the problem was DJ couldn't get a good functioning midfield (and that means ever) or cover Jay when we lost him.

couldnt have put it better myself castle, especially the last sentence. i was a massive fan of jay when he was here and thought maybe some fans were being a bit harsh on him towards the end of last season. i even thought he seemed a decent guy deep down and he actually cared about cardiff. but since hes left theres been too many negative comments towards the club and fans and hes gone way down in my estimations. this interview has confirmed to me that he was always the tw*t that some fans thought he was from very early on. and some people are trying to dress his comments up as ambitious, that is total rubbish! whichever way u look at it, those comments are disrespectful to every person at the club, from players to fans!!!!   better off without the egotistical wanker :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

How come the results do not reflect this?

Re: " Jay Bothroyd I'm No One Cap Wonder "

I feel there was nothing wrong with his ambition you get a taste of the England squad its probably like a drug which is highly addictive you crave it more and more, so when he came back to Cardiff maybe he felt im better than the championship (nothing wrong with that either) but instead of earning his premier league place the hard way through hard work by getting Cardiff promoted he looked for an easy way out and instant success. Did this effect Cardiffs win rate probably not there are 10 other players in the team and he could stick the ball in the back of the net whether he worked or not. My criticism for him is his work rate fell apart after his england call up plus his passion for the club vanished and he forgot who saved him from the footballers graveyard.

Results reflect the effectiveness of the team as a whole but if you look at Jays goalscoring record last season he scored 15 goals in 17 appearances prior to his England cap and 5 goals in 22 appearances after.

Like I said we never saw the same player after his England cap. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

So you go from "Wins happen as a team" to "Jay didn't score enough goals" Interesting way to contradict yourself. There was far more to Jay's game than that
With Jay playing we lost 7 league matches (he played 37 league games)

Without Jay playing we lost 5 league matches (he missed 9 games)
FACT.

Perception is what you are dealing with, in the space of time Jay scored 'those 5 goals' Bellamy and Chopra got 6 and 4 would you say they equally failed Cardiff? We out scored QPR anyway so goals for isn't our issue we failed to score in only 9 league games. QPR failed to score in ten and went up as champions.

Your right about perception it is a powerful tool in any debate but as goals scored was the initial criteria which delivered Jays call up into the England squad then surely it's not unreasonable to consider his performance on a before and after basis.

When you do that it is clear that we never saw the same player, from a goalscoring perspective, after his England cap as we did before. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
