We ARE good. Top 6 still on!

Wed Aug 31, 2011 8:58 pm

West Ham class act. Leicester may buy themselves a place. Brighton look good but may not have the strength in depth (plus manager could be persuaded up to the Premier League).

The rest? No better than last season. That's why we're capable of a top 6 place. We have adequate replacements for everyone except Bellamy, and possibly Bothroyd. The other players are equally as good as what we had last year, if not better. MM may yet bring in support from Premiership loans. Apart from the 3 teams mentioned above, we have no need to fear any other teams in the division.

They need to fear us because we're pretty good, and only going to get better!

I agree, the only area where I feel we are weaker this season is up front. And that can be sorted by a quality loanee signing by MM :D

we are very capable of top 6 this season, theres a definite improved work ethic and togetherness from the team and a lot of the time thats more important than individual talent even though theres a lot that there,i still personally believe with mangement and staff included we have a better TEAM than last season and if the jacks, norwich, hull and burnley can do it,so can we :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I like this thinking. I was captivated by the whole Bellamy saga, and more than a little bummed that he's on with Liverpool. This is the kind of thing I need to read. I just hope that you are right. :ayatollah:

6 pints of reality with a side order of reasoned thinking it is then.

Its quite rare amongst members of this board at times.

Statistically, a QUARTER of this division will be either promoted or in the
play-offs next May. Are we good enough right now to stay in a play-off place?
Yes. Kenny Miller is making that lone striker role his own. He is now scoring
and so is his 'back-up' Mason. We are also getting plenty of goals from all
over the pitch. From feeling we are weak up front, i'm beginning to think
that Miller is as good as any in this division. Turner is becoming immense.
And after Hudsons horror injury, and his refusal to go off the pitch against
Derby, im going to get behind him and give him all my support!! Since the
Barnsley game (which was already won) we have conceded only one goal in
three games, and are now putting away chances that we were missing weeks
ago. The only dark cloud on the horizon is lack of depth re: the squad. Unlike
many, i believe Malky when he says he'd rather hang on for the right player
than get someone in for the sake of it. If we get another striker or winger
in who can have the same impact that Turner is having then i believe they
will be worth waiting for... But we DO need one or two. Sooner rather than
later please Mr Mackay :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

With every game I'm becoming more convinced we are contenders for the payoffs this season but we are going to need a lot of luck with injuries and suspensions if we are to maintain our position. Like many other teams in the division we are light on numbers in the squad and we do need to get at least a couple of players in but MM is determined to only bring players in who will add to the squad ethic and he is absolutely right.

So far this season we have scored 29 goals exactly the same as we had with the supposed BIG players we had last season, we have exactly the same number of clean sheets, 5 in total, as we had last season at this stage. We have lost the same number of games but drawn 3 more courtesy of conceding 5 more goals than we had last season.

Those 3 drawn games are the reason we are 6 points lower than we were at this stage last season but given the fact we only took 7 points out of the next 24 last season it will be interesting to see how we do this season. My feeling is we will take more than 7 points from the next 24, in fact I think we will take a lot more.

Top 6 is on no doubt about that for me and if MM can add a couple of the players he is looking for it will definately be on. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Excellent posts fellas.
I think I agree with everyone of them.

Now we will be in other teams sights - so squad depth and plan B etc will be more important from this point.
Most of us have wrote before that a few cherries on the top and we'll have one hell of a cake. :ayatollah:

This week we have taken 7 points off teams all above us in the league, 2 of them away from home......stick in the mix we have also played the 2 teams above us as of now, and beat them both, 1 being away......im starting to get giddy myself :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

A good positive thread.

The way we are playing and the determination within the squad gives me more confidence than this time last season.

We need fear no other teams and I firmly believe we will make the top 6 at least

Every year people claim its the strongest it's ever been and I never agree. It will be the same as all years with everyone capable of beating everyone.
West Ham will end up running away with it but they ain't as strong as people think and will drop considerable points.

I do think it was a pretty poor division last season. QPR went through a
patch where they couldnt buy a win, they were drawing every week. they
still pissed it! Norwich and Swansea were not very good sides. We were
shite at times yet reached the play-offs. This season the teams that stay
near the top will be the ones that dont lose three/four games on the trot

i gree with most about a couple of signings are needed, but with only 5 subs allowed a smaller squad isnt so bad, a bigger squad means more unhappy players not getting in on the action during match days, at the moment we seem to have a harmoniuos squad , i hope any new signings/loans dont rock the boat, we going along very well, must say away games atmosphere knocks spots of our home atmosphere :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Having reviewed this post from August 31st, I basically stand by what I said. West Ham look good for top 2. If Leicester get a decent manager in place they are still in with a good chance with the squad they have assembled. Southampton haven't got me convinced that they are top 2 material, despite their current form. The team that have caught me unawares are Birmingham, who I didn't think would do so well after losing so many top players (although they lost today) - but the Europa league and the ensuing fixture congestion could put some pressure on their squad too.

We are still in with a very good chance of thetop 6 - mind you, I wouldn't rule out anyone other than the bottom 4 at the moment!
