" So we are going to let Goodwillie deal go then? "

Wed Jul 27, 2011 7:35 am

Funny really management and owners can change at City over the years but f*cking stupidity still reigns supreme at our club!

I couldn't give a shit if we signed Miller, will he be around in five years? No he will be long retired as for Goodwillie he will be reaching his peak.

We have an opportunity here to sign a real rough diamond at a reasonable price considering hes only 22 yet we are bottling it for a good player in Miller but high wages and absolutely no re-sale value in the future.

We possess only 3 match winners in the squad- Earnie (Hope he's still got it), Miller and Whitts. A lot of our rivals have 6 or 7.

We lack width and pace in abundance and have no proven alternative up front.

Mid table obscurity beckons unless 3 fantastic signings are made next few weeks, yes Bellers would make a massive difference but come on I think this one is getting boring we need to move on and if it comes off it will be a bonus.

Come on Cardiff City prove me wrong.....just this once! :ayatollah:

I think the Goodwillie deal is dead and has been for a while now and I'm not particularly bothered of we sign him or not. I think you're over-hyping a player who is, essentially, unproven outside Scotland. Who's to say that Mason and Gestede won't be the rough diamond you say Goodwillie is? We have 5 or 6 strikers at the club now, which is enough. You also talk about width in the side, or lack of it. How would Goodwillie offer us that, being a centre forward? Goodwillie also, it seems, brings a lot of baggage with him and I think that he could be more trouble than he's worth anyway. I don't think he'd be here in the 5 or 6 years you also touch on. Miller is a very good signing and I thionk will be the last striker we buy

Re: So we are going to let Goodwillie deal go then?

i think goodwillie is a good player but his off the field antics are the problem and apparently he doesnt fancy the move anyway thats why we signed miller i think at least we know miller is a proven goalscorer if we get bellers and a couple more we will do alright

Never said Goodwillie would provide us width, was referring to another area we are woefully short in, Conway has never kicked a ball in this league and he is the only genuine wide man at the club. he gets injured or struggles to find form teams will find us very easy to defend against.

Give Conway a chance, please. As un/proven as Goodwillie in this league

I have to comment on this..... Goodwillie is a very good player and would definately cut it in the championship for us, he has no off the field antics, if only you knew the truth then you would know what I'm saying. The rape charge has been dropped, (there was not enough evidence coz it never happend), and he will be cleared of the assault charge coz he was acting in self defence and helping his mates who were getting battered. Now you say that "apparently" he doesn't fancy the move here, well I can tell you for a fact that he DOES want to move here and he will if Malky really wants him. I really hope he does. ;)
By the way, great initial post bluebirds80 :D

Based on what you say and you normally seem to be pretty much on the ball ; then if Malky wants Goodwillie he will go and get him because his off field incidents have been blown out of all proportion. This being the case if i was in charge I would be sorting this out with Dundee United today and would hopefully have him signed by the weekend but it's not my decision :D and we have to trust Malky and whatever he decides :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

yes mate that is very much the issue, it all depends now on whether Malky still wants him, like I say I hope he does. Yes we do have to trust and respect Malky's decision. IMO Parkin is not going to cut it this season so I think Malky should let him go and go and get Goodwillie, its a no brainer :D :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

The no brainer being Parkin  see another poster is reporting Goodwillie is off to Blackburn and also that Wigan are sniffing around, i think we are going to end up losing a potential gem whose resale value will only increase so he's got to be worth a gamble but it looks like a gamble the Malaysians :?: are not prepared to take :(

Kris boyd as well, scored loads in spl, didn't score many in championship, think we need some wise players though

Re: " So we are going to let Goodwillie deal go then? "

The case has been postponed a few times and theres the possibility of him being in jail for 6 months. So 2m on a player that could miss most of the season?

Balls to that, let the deal go.

Ok will put it to you another way. Conway rips this division to shreds first 6 weeks of the season but then pulls his hamstring and is out for two months. Bellers is not a Bluebird we have no pace or trickery from wide. Whitts is a fantastic player wide or in the middle but he beats a man with his guile and passing ability, he is slow.

We need at least two more players with sheer pace, If conway is a hit teams will soon double up on him and stop us. Cowie looks far from a wide player he keeps coming inside.

Routledge now what would be my £2 million spent!!! :ayatollah:

Goodwillie & Miller = magic.

And for less then 3 million!

Crazy not to do it.

Boyd did find his feet and the back of the net once he joined Forest.

Re: " So we are going to let Goodwillie deal go then? "

Wed Jul 27, 2011 10:15 am

I think Goodwillie would be a good signing for city. He is an aggressive forward often compared in style to Duncan Ferguson. He can also play wide as he did in a few occasions for Dundee Utd.

I hear what people are saying with the argument we need another wide player and unless we sign Bellamy or another similar player we are definatley going to be short in this area.

A guess the signing of goodwillie will depend on whether his signing would have any negative impact on the budget left for other signings, such as a wide man.

Re: " So we are going to let Goodwillie deal go then? "

What is this obsession with Goodwillie? 1 in 4 scoring ratio on SPL. Unproven at Championship level. £2m for that privilege. Or £870k for a proven striker at this level with a 1 in 2 record at SPL and 1 in 3 in Premiership? Makes sense to me? I think sometimes people forget we're a Championship team still working on a relative budget.

It's not necessarily City's choice now. We've all heard they agreed a £2m+ fee with Dundee over Goodwillie, but now the charges against him have been dropped, a lot more clubs are interested. It's the lad's choice now.

I hope we get him, but I don't expect anything. :ayatollah:

LOL just becuuase he is young doesnt mean in 5 years he is going to be worth more. ITS NOT FOOTBALL MANAGER !!

he is unproven, he could come and be a flop and could even go to jail. it is rediculous. too high risk for the money he is going for..

we all know the malaysians are alot cleverer than to agree that. if they wanted him they would of had him already.

Sides will double up on him as he will be our only outlet. We can't be relying on him alone. Look how teams sussed naylor out early doors last season. Jonesy cost us 15/20 points by not dropping him

We need something Jonesy never had- a Plan B!

I think Malky has done wonders in the market so far but he hasn't spent a lot if this £20 million budget is to be believed, he has built up the squad nicely now its time to splash the cash on 2/3 quality match winners.

I would like to see him here but he seems the same kind of mould of Miller and Earnie to me so I think its dead in the water.

nobody is really saying he will be a bad signing for us, what everyone is saying is that he isnt coming, doesnt seem like he wants to come and most importantly we have about 5 things more important right now.

and please stop saying Goodwillie & Miller = Magic!

its making me cringe
