Mark Hudson seems quite prominent in the media at the moment - seemingly eager to sing the praises of the new manager and disassociate himself with the previous regime.
As we all know Hudson was effectively DJs right hand man on the pitch prior to Bellers joining, but still remained one of DJs main favourites when Bellers was with us. Our play off final game emphasised his relationship with DJ when he was brought into the team after a long injury lay off subsequently breaking up an effective and well gelled defence at Gerrards expense.
I personally think Hudson is pretty fearful for his position at the club now, as MM does not go for captains like Hudson and he doesn't have a 'special' relationship with the manager as insurance of a place in the team.
Dont get me wrong, Hudson eventually earned his place in merit in the team last season, however speaking honestly I would not be against selling him as hes one of the last remaining cornerstones of DJs era - clear the previous regime completely is what I say

He's club captain so will be more prominent in media

Maybe so...but I'm not interpreting it like that. I think he's flappimg a little, eager to get his two pence in sharpish

I Was thing the same Jon

When his comments came out.
Hudson is now our highest paid player, club captain, and played well the 2nd half of the season.
Is he the man to lead the team next season

Remember plays in the same position as MM played in his day.

Hudson was Dj's side kick, must be worried, but there again he came good in the end

He did mate your right, I'm just concerned there maybe still a presence of mentality/culture etc still remaining from the previous regime if the likes of Hudson remain. A bit undecided over it all to be honest - although driving my thoughts is my opinion that Keinan and Gerrard are our best centre back partnership
Sat Jun 25, 2011 1:23 pm
TopCat - I really don't want him as our captain next season to be honest. He lacks the natural bond with the fans and charisma that previous captains of promoted Chapionship teams possessed.
Go for a new captain (or Bellers if he comes back) and clear all reference to the previous management
Sat Jun 25, 2011 1:27 pm
Agree with you Jon new face could be the captain, but if Bellers is back only one person for us
Sat Jun 25, 2011 1:33 pm
Promise Goodwillie he'll be captain if he signs. Hes got fight, passion and the will to win like super kev, proper captain material.

My opinion of Mark Hudson with us on his first season was, he wasnt consistent, with alot of potential, but prone too many errors on the pitch. After the captaincy was taken off him last season, there seemed to be a big weight lifted off him, his performance was consistent and was at the heart of our defence, until the injury.
Last season was probably one of the best we have seen of Mark Hudson, with consistent performances, and does the job, I hope he can continue to improve with his performances and wear that bluebird jersey with pride. In regards to his captaincy of our club, I believe hes not the right man, he can still be club captain, but not on the pitch, for that, I would have to wait for Malky Mackay to bring players in and then make a decision.
We need a passionate captain, who players can look up to......could Gerrard be one of those players? I'm not quite sure, he does have passion and the fans do love him. Guess we have to wait and see!!!!!

Hudson had a great season last year (injury aside) and is assuming position of captain as should be expected until he is told otherwise.
Lets get behind him
Sat Jun 25, 2011 5:16 pm
I think Hudson is better when he is not captain but I really do think we have to give Gerrard a go luckily Jones didnt have long enough to sell him. Gerrard did well at Hull so should be giving a chance at Cardiff City as he did well for us at the back end of the play off final season.
Mackay had a poor deffence at Watford lets hope he can fix ours as it let us down a bit last season even though Hudson got better our goal difference let us down we were scoring as many as all the top sides however we were letting in as many as the bottom teams too that has to be fixed.

For me it will have to be McNaughton or Bellamy.

He was in doing publicity shoots for the new strip, probably the only player at the ground hence why so much will be attributed to him.

Mark Hudson is a better player than Anthony Gerrard.

Agree.
Why does everyone think that Hudson broke up the Gerrard-Blake partnership ? It wasn't that good and it wasn't the first-choice centre-half partnership ! Hudson was always in the side that season and then he was out for 2-3 months from January-April. He came back into the side just as Blake had an injury problem and when Blake came back Gerrard got injured and missed the whole of the play-offs, so the partnership had to be broken up.
And anyone who thinks we should clear him out is crazy. When he was out of he side after he was injured against Millwall we never looked the same at the back.
Finally, it's easy to just call the defence this and that and call them useless etc. but over the last 2 seasons there's hardly been any consistency of selection (probably last season more than 09/10), when other sides' defences (especially ones who have been promoted), like Swansea and QPR, hardly ever change.

Hudson was getting absolutely slated throughout the Play Off final season for some woeful defending, and only when he did not feature towards the end of that campaign did our defence show any cohesion and grit required to get to Wembley - Gerrard should never have been left out of that starting line up and it showed.
And how you can say Hudson is a better player than Gerrard is beyond me - Gerrard was Player of the Year by a country mile at a team contesting for a Play off place for large periods of the season - hes everything you want in a central defender at our level...Hudson will always have an air of doubt about him.
Don't get me wrong its not the end of the world if he stays and starts for us, but I would rather see Keinan and Gerrard start in the middle, and as I've said previously I see Hudson as a last remaining cornerstone of DJs era who was obviously more than comfortable and suited to projecting/integrating the approach and culture DJ wanted - I would prefer no legacy left at all of that regime and all contributors to it let go. Just my opinion

To me, Gerrard is young, hungry, gutsy and will fight for everything.
Malky's type of player!

I like hudson and have done from the start hees never been poor, just no protection from midfield

Gotta disagree, in my opinion Hudson was terrible but got a lot better when the captaincy was given to bellamy. Gotta give credit to the fella for keeping his chin up and working through the bad times. Gotta be said though, looking forward to having gerrard back.seems to have the same mentality as Roger Johnson, will run through brick walls for you.

This, I love how everyone pretended like having Gavin Rae to stop an onslaught from the opposition's midfield was Hudson's fault. Nothing wrong with Hudson at this level, just our fans love to have a hate figure
McPhail, Ledley, Bothroyd, Hudson, DJ always something.
As for Hudson, he did one interview and its got repackaged by the Echo 3 times, big deal.

so how come at the time people were complaining we were getting over run in midfield then complain that hudson was getting skinned..

Hudson's slower than Parkin. We were average at best defensively last year and think we need two first choice centre backs

He WAS getting skinned but over the course of the season through hard work he improved that is my opinion (not being negative).
Think if Bellamy doesn't come then Malky will bring his own Captain in.

Agree, especially since we always played only 2 in the middle of midfield

Did you ever see Sami Hyypia play ? A bit like Hudson (but obviously a better player), he lacks pace but makes up for it in how he reads the game. For me it's him and Gerrard/Keinan next season.
