CHRIS GUNTER

Fri Feb 18, 2011 8:36 am

i have sat in the ninian stand for the last 2 seasons and listerned to our supporters giving chris gunter abuse! .... to be honest i really cant understand this as he always played well for us, he never asked to leave cardiff, was a cardiff supporter and a bloody good welsh international.... the last game i was cringing but how badly he was treated! .... come on boys we are better than that!

Re: CHRIS GUNTER

I think it's more about how he reacts with the crowd rather than him leaving us.

Made a point on the last two occassions at CCS of pumping his fist towards City fans and generally winding them up in the manner of Mr Tate (although not quite in the same league   ) during and after the games.

In the last game also deliberately piled into a couple of our players and got in the face of the ref trying to get someone sent off with a blatant dive followed by "staring out" a section on the Ninian Stand on the half-way line.

Came over as quite an obnoxious individual and I will be hurling abuse at him on Saturday with a clear conscience  :ayatollah:

I've always found his attitude slightly disappointing towards us, especially because the fans initially held him in high regard. He also seems to often talk fondly of his time down here so not sure what his mentality is.

he`s payed by forest to defend .... i wouldnt expect him to just let our players go past him without a fight! .... this all started by a challenge he made on peter whittingham last season, which i believe was hard but fair! ... yes he did pump his fist to the forest supporters after they scored late on that day, but that was after loads of abuse.... at one stage he looked up at the ninian stand in the first half and he looked totally gutted by our badly our fans were treating him! .... btw giving him abuse spurs him on to play better, so id give it a miss tomorrow or we`ll see plenty more of that pumping fist!

Its because he has kissed their Badge, always runs over to the Forest Fans and has sarcastically Smiled and laughed at the Fans in the Ninian Stand at the same time. I met him a few times when he played for us and he was a nice person to speak to.

it does piss me off to see the level of abuse gunter gets.

Ironic really considering as a kid/teenager gunter probably did more city away games than those abusing him put together.

He wasn't looking at 117 in disbelief, he was just stunned because he didn't have a comeback.

Plenty of players manage to leave our club, and not get upto antics on their return - I was also under the impression that the first time he returned, he was clapped THEN started playing up.

You're right, he was clapped and did :ayatollah: but once the game started he snapped into "Billy Davies" mode, i.e. obnoxious

tyler i was stood about 10 feet from him that day and he looked shell shocked when the abuse really kicked in! ... i was totally embarressed by it and i normally dont give a shite! ... he`s one of us ffs whos trying his very best at is new club! ... just remember we sold him, he didnt walk away! ... anyway even if he does gets abuse it aint gonna faze him, cause thats why he was playing for city at 17 and why we sit in the stands!

Sorry mate, but you got to wise up a bit, it's the way that Gunter has reacted to various incidents that has wound the supporters up. Earnie scores against us, which potentially City supporters should hate him for, but never does anything to dis-respect us, that's why he's a legend in most City fans eyes. Since leaving I can't really say that I have seen an ounce of respect or warmth from Chris gunter towards City supporters. I'l be gicing him dogs abuse come Saturday :ayatollah:

I really like Gunter hard work, gives 100% for who ever he's playing for and is a proper city fan. People on here love players showing 'passion' like Gunter does.

Out fans also love to wind players up but get very precious when they try it back

we started the whole thing mate! ... i was there when it all started! .... he`s a top top player and i`d give my right hand to see him back in a city shirt! ... you can carry on abusing him but do you think he will give to f**ks what the likes of you think? infact your abuse will most like make him play even better! do your bit boys for the forest cause!

Re: CHRIS GUNTER

Really? I think Gunter is as average as they come and to be honest the only game I ever recall being actually impressed with him was the Wales Germany game a few years back. He is not a top top player at all not even at this level. Let’s just say I fancy Bellamy to get the better of him tomorrow just like any half decent player does when they come up against him. Did you see the Wales Ireland game? He was beyond poor, a totally catastrophic performance.

You're contradicting yourself in your post.

"you can carry on abusing him but do you think he will give to f**ks what the likes of you think? infact your abuse will most like make him play even better!"

So he doesn't give a f*** but it'll, errm, spur him on? In which case he'd clearly give a f**k.

Face reality. Gunter was applauded when he returned. He then went into quite a few reckless challenges, acted like an arse. THAT triggered abuse.

Why then do YOU think little innocent Gunter gets abuse the overwhelming majority of ex-Cardiff players don't?

No ones asking Gunter to do us any favours mate because as you point out he doesn't play for us anymore so no ones expecting that, however, contrary to what you think, most of us have the inpression that he hasn't been that gracious when he has played against the team that he supposedly supports. He was a decent player for Cardiff, nothing more, not because he wasn't good enough, but simply because, in the scheme of things, he didn't play that many games for us.
I don't think that whether the majority boo him or not will make any difference to his performance, but it will make those that do boo feel great especially if he slips up or has a mare of a game.
As said earlier, no one will boo Earnie, even if he scores, and Ernie wont celebrate either, thats the difference, as Gunter will probably punch the air. :ayatollah:

Is your point so incredibly flimsy you have to introduce the ridiculous notion of him doing us "favours"?

Fact is, I hate to interject a bit of reality to you, but when players go in two footed, feet off floor, they tend to get stick, regardless of having played for us in the past.

Hope that helps...

We've been through all this before but just to refresh the short memories of some....

Gunter was VERY disingenuous towards his former club before last season's game at the CCS and DELIBERATELY came over to the Ninian Stand to salute the Forest Scabs and then proceed to run along the touchline staring out the fans in 117/118

When they (Forest) scored he again approached the away supporters clenching his fist and acting like he'd personally scored the winner in the FA Cup Final....all in front of the fans of his so-called 'home' club....

He TRIED to do the same this year but a very large police officer came down to the front of the stand and gave him 'the look' at which point Gunter turned and (sensibly) ran away....

Now call me pedantic but if that isn't a very disingenuous act towards the club that made him then I don't know what is....

His Forest colleague, City legend Robert Earnshaw, didn't act in this way and has always remembered from whence he came, even 'doing the Ayatollah' on request....

The same went for Steve Thompson the other night....and others have done similar (I remember Nathan Blake having big grief off his manager once for doinf similar)

I am certainly one of the ones who gives Gunter stick (much to the amusement of those around me who have rarely seen me so animated) and I will continue to do so until he either apologises OR learns not to antagonise the very fans that got behind him when he was 'pne of ours' not too long ago....

Spot on SG.

I missed out on last years antics by Gunter as I was away so this season when Forest came to the CCS I carefully watched Gunter after the final whistle. On his way to the Forest fans Gunter starred directly into 117/118 making sure he was being watched. He then, in front of the Forest fans, did an aggressive 2 arm salute towards them.

Fair enough he is a Forest player and they are paying his wages. However there is a line you dont cross when it comes to your previous clubs and he has crossed it. How many times do you see professional footballers scoring against their previous clubs and NOT celebrating the goal? The fans dont have a problem seeing their ex players score against their team, its what we expect them to do. Its how they act after that counts and as far as I am concerned Gunter has not acted respectfully on this subject and deserves the abuse he get from where he has come from.
