Andy Burnham is thinking of trialling drinking alcohol in the stands again .What’s people’s views on this?
For me and I like a pint it’s a no because you will get fans up and down to the bar and toilet.

Burnham needs to stop concentrating on reducing bus fares and drinking beer at football matches and start sorting out the bigger problems with this country.

I do come back to the point about the double standards though. You can have a drink in your seat at Everton's stadium for a rugby game, but not at the same stadium for a football match.

Like I said though, can't see it actually happening. It's just a politician being asked for his opinion on it and he gave it, without committing to a law change on it.

No from me. I like a pint as much as anyone but from my experience of going to the rugby you get people up and down all game. If it does come in maybe the answer is to stop people bringing it in 5 mins after kick off at start and half time and charge a deposit on the plastic glass so we dont have thousands of them to trip over..

is missing a point. Agree the current law is discriminatory but we never used to be allowed to at most grounds. I go back to the mid sixties and for most of that time you couldnt buy a drink at Ninian Park apart from the Grandstand let alone take it onto the terraces. A bar in the ground was only introduced towards the latter years of Ninian Park. This was quite common in most grounds. I can only remember having a drink on the terraces on one occassion at Palace in late seventies/early eighties.

God no i cant think of anything worse than being covered in watered down piss when we equalizer against Preston in the last minute

THOUGHTFUL DEBATE: PM Andy Burnham calling the 41-yr stadium alcohol ban "outdated discrimination" is a massive talking point. The 1985 law belongs to a totally different era of terrace culture. But honestly, who actually wants an £7 pint chucked over them when we score?

So I watch Cardiff rugby, no problem folks having a pint there in the stands in my experience.

Ned doesn't matter where it was trialled its a bad idea you come to level 4 and sit in middle of a row and try and walk to seat with a pint in hand? And city as the biggest space of most stadiums for room around seats! Rugby at millennium shows you the problem! And take away being drunk and its still a bad idea .... and ccs is one of best stadia for fan space can u imagine the carnage at most premier league stadia that are antiquated and have chaotic seating like Liverpool ? Yes its discrimination but still doesn't mean should be allowed in football.

Don’t see the need or the practicalities; particularly for those around the stadium who will be affected by the drinkers, the constant to-ing and fro-ing for replenishments, toilet trips, the abhorrent beer-chucking after goals, etc.

He's presenting as a weak people pleaser who needs to be liked and who can't face confrontation.

He also appears unwilling or incapable of addressing any of the major issues that actually concern most of the electorate.

Maybe this is so he can arrest and imprison all the football fans before elections.

The drinking in the ground gripe has been around for many years and I was a firm moaner. But as an occasional rugby attender at the Mill Stad i am firmly against it, it has to be the biggest cause of scraps ever. Up down, up, down, spilling beers, standing on pints, kicking them over; its just not worth the fuss.

I'd compromise that you could bring 1 pint with you when the game is not on, so pre and h/t, but as soon as the players are on the field it's the same rules as now. Fortunately, this will never happen, though; just another TikTok episode in the "i have a dream" back catalog.

If they limit the amount of alcohol like a beer token system where fans are given 3 tokens per match AND are forced to bring the drink to the seats before the start of the match and at half time if they choose to buy a beer or other alcoholic drinks. This way fans don't get up during the matches.
Tokens could be given for free or tokens could be purchased like for £8 for 3 tokens.

Banning booze in the stands just encourages binge drinking and ends up with more people pissed

Let supporters have a drink, respect them and treat them like other sports respect their fans

Constantly painting football fans as different to supporters of other sports just plays into that stereotype

He was asked the question by a journalist on the plane back from America, he didn't bring up the matter himself.

I think people are getting way ahead of themselves in response to that, there's nothing to indicate that this will be made law anytime soon. It's just a response to a question and at least he gave his view (whether you agree with his view or not), didn't fence sit like his predecessor.
