It's naive from the manager, we are far far too open, it brave and attacking, but we aren't good enough at this level to bury the chances

We'll see if BBM is a one trick pony or he can adapt

Even 11mins added time and still 2-0

Re: TODAY : YES CARDIFF DID HAVE CHANCES, BUT SADLY ONCE AGA

Sat Sep 05, 2026 3:58 pm

Slow going forward
Wide open at the back
No options on the bench to change the way the game is going.
No options in the squad to rotate tired or out of form players.

All points towards a team getting relegated.

Cardiff Winless in 5 League games since start of the season.

Very worrying as Pompey not a great side.

As I have said and many others BBM did not Strengthen properly and I believe he will Regret it.

It's obvious to me that Portsmouth are a better side than us

None of this lot are good enough. BBM got lucky last year.

We will finish bottom.

I’m going to make a prediction now which is really depressing. BBM to be sacked before Christmas and us to get relegated. A bit of a sliding doors situation where I feel if we’d added a couple of good players at the end of the window we’d be looking upwards. All momentum and belief has gone from the team

Re: TODAY : YES CARDIFF DID HAVE CHANCES, BUT SADLY ONCE AGA

It's a tough, uncompromising league, BBM needs to wake up and smell the coffee very quickly

Re: TODAY : YES CARDIFF DID HAVE CHANCES, BUT SADLY ONCE AGA

The drop off in performance levels since the transfer window is huge. We played very well in first 3 games and deserved 3 points against Sheffield Utd. Far too early to say its relegation form or we are not good enough etc. BBM has to find a way to shore up the back four. We are so soft currently. We are desperate for Lawlor and even Chambers at the back. If we don't win next week, BBM will go into free fall and BBM will be gone by early October with our fickle fan base.

Bbm needs to change his tactics playing percentage football does not get you goals! Pointless going for it after your two goals down like we do.... top priority a defence coach someone to get our defenders to be aggressive when marking players v large percentage of headers are going in because no physical challenge to attacker.... i said if no additions to squad season is dead but it looks more like season avoiding bottom 3 instead? Bbm really needs to come to terms with championship and fact possession for possession sake playing pedestrian football is not way to go!

Always say this
Why don't Joel ever start a game
He was like that last season at the tail end of it

Terrible decision making.
Sadly unless Tan gives BBM what he wants in the January window we might be fighting relegation like 2 seasons ago.
I hope it don't happen because I think the youngsters are great but they need the help from quality players who know the league.

Stoke next who beat Charlton 4-0
So hope we improve BIG TIME for it especially at home or things I fear will get toxic.

This is a well-resourced copycat league; as soon as the blue print is out the everyone copies until we counter

I am a fan, but I would say let them have the ball, press in spurts; they panic and turn over the ball, then hit them on the break. Very little off-ball running; they stay in formation. Poor at defending and attacking set plays.

Are Rubin and Joel (Colwill) not ‘good options’ off the bench?

I agree with the OP that this was a very disappointing game, but today the issues lay at the feet of the onfield XI, who made way too many unforced errors…again!

BBM adapt or you will lose your job . That would be a great shame .

I know it’s still early but I said many times last season this is the real test for Murphy. I fully backed him as he can only beat who is in front of him and he got the job done, however I truly believe Riza would have got us up last season.
It’s only 5 games gone so not turning against him quite yet but he needs to prove himself as a capable manager. Some say he’s the greatest manager we ever had which I thought was strange considering the league we were in.
You can feel the disappointment around the place now fans losing faith in Murphy. And again Ruben showing he’s not the genius people think he is we just have to accept it, league one he looks ok championship he’s a bench warmer for a lower half team. Some say premier league quality. It makes us laugh now saying that out loud the only thing we had to smile about today.
Safe journey home everyone.

it is the errors that cost us but part of that is way we play? If you notice when we get possession by time we lose the ball we tend to have around 8 players in advanced positions leaving us exposed at back as we've seen regularly! The slow pedestrian attacking just allows teams to be organised then we are vulnerable to counter for reasons said.... other thing is the weak defending of the ball there is absolutely no challenge to players heading ball we simply stand off them ...teams don't do that to salech they're pushing pulling grabbing him to stop him because they know refs won't punish defenders.... basically its same reasons we are conceding every game is that the players or bbm and coaches?

What else do we expect! Playing in the championship with a league 1 team, the same team that got us relegated. Idiots keep doing tge same thing over and over and expect a different outcome. TAN OUT

There's a big gulf in footballing standards, at every level, between Div 1 league and Championship league football, and an even Bigger gulf between Championship and Premier league football (as most of us know).

To get promoted, and not improve, strengthen the squad for a much higher standard of football is, quite frankly, not only naive, but ludicrous. Did Vincent Tan, or BBM really believe that we could compete with basically the same squad as last season (answers on a postcard)?

Im not going to predict the next few months of this season,,, but on its present trajectory, BBM will be gone by the end of the year, and City will be rooted in the bottom three, probably bottom other the Championship....

Remember Paul Trollope, won only two of the opening twelve matches of the 2016/17 season, and sacked on the 4th October 2016?

The rest is history!

We started ok but quickly Pompey grew into the game and Ito our faces which we struggled to cope with. Some times we just pass for the sake of it.
First half stats was something like, possession 65 - 35 to us with only 4-8 shots inthier favour.
I still believe we’ll get right but it can be frustrating.
First game we haven’t scored so let’s put that right midweek.

Another loss against a pretty average championship side.

A lot of us on here said this league is gonna be tough and we shouldn't underestimate it.

Now throw in the fact we've barely added to the squad and it's not looking good.

BBM won't change the way we play coz it's his/our identity now...but we needed those extra quality players in to help us build and improve on how we go about playing it. Without them, this week could become quite the norm.

Must say, it's pathetic putting 2 keepers on the bench now (unless there genuinely were no other outfield player available). It might be him proving a point, but it's also cutting your our nose to spite your face. Stupid decision and offers us sweet FA!

We are guilty of overplaying, acting as ifs just a training match.

There is no law that you have to play with a DCM, if we don't have one, then set up differently !!!!!

The football world is looking to see if BBM has the cojones to be the manager of a football club, or is he a development manager? Big moment in his career next few months.....

We are far to easy to play through and give up way to many chances

Unless bbm can find a way to tighten up at the back we are in big trouble

My early season optimism is ebbing away fast

I havent come on here to criticise but my personal view is that we are too good for the third division [ leauge1 ] and not good enough for division 2 [ championship ]. A massive mistake not to strengthen this young team . :bluebird: :bluescarf:

I agree about the DCM but maybe we need 2 playing deeper not one, certainly Robertson isn't up to handling it alone. He needs to come up with something especially away from home, we won't be overunning teams like we did last year

We need to a couple of free transfers in ASAP , SQUAD IS NOT BIG ENOUGH FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP TAN IS RUINING OUR CLUB BBM SHOULD HAVE BEEN BACKED!!!!

Definitely need some backbone in the team we are like a load of slow fairies

Time to drop salech and give robbo a go

Many have said this and I agree, he has no competition and he just seems to go through the motions I don't see that hunger anymore

Maybe dropping him will give him the rocket up his arse he definitely needs

Not blaming it all on him coz other than Bagan and trott no one really showed they were worthy of a first team place today and it's a shame to say that so early in what should've been a feel good season for us

Rubin should be starting, Joel should also be ahead of Turnbull. Rubin offered nothing after coming on, Joel was a bit better.

Both would be subs for majority of other teams in Championship on current showings.

The only positions we are well equipped is at 8, 10 and left back.
