It was BBM who refused new players

Wed Sep 02, 2026 9:33 am

Interesting article by Glen Williams this morning.

It suggests that we missed out on a few top targets (for whatever reason) and BBM decided he wasn't going to bring anyone in for the sake of it - right decision in my opinion.

Also that the bid for Hjerto-Dahl was real.

We spent money on three players - £3m on Moylan, £2.5m on Bielik and £1.5m on Trott.

BBM has standards and decided that if he couldn't get his main targets then he wouldn't sign anyone at all.

We had also tried to sign Bielik and Moylan last summer so they were long term targets.

At least it's over now and we know what we have, can focus on the actual games.

He has also been critical of the board this summer.

What he's posted makes a lot of sense.

This just sounds like a damage control article to me

Remember when Bulut went public about the higher ups promising him funds

And then ghosting him till the last week of the window only to tell him there wasn't anywhere near as much money as they said

That must have been bbm as well

Glen referred to the Bulut situation in his article actually.

There's no conspiracy, what he's saying seems true.

Glen Williams trying to tell us BBM couldn’t find a player to improve our squad depth? BBM is either a massive liar protecting the Tan and co or that Glen Williams is talking absolute rubbish.

I think it's true. Players turned us down so why sign the wrong players and ruin everything that is going well in the dressing room?

I can understand players turning us down but every manager should have a plan B or C if they fail to land their main targets. We had 3/4 months to sort this out. Clubs a shambles.

Hardly a shambles, things are going well on the pitch.

Why accept second choice if they don't add anything to the squad? I agree with this approach and I believe it because Glen has no reason to make it up.

That's a heck of a risky strategy by BBM taking into account injuries and suspensions which will definitely happen during a season.

I expect to see more goalkeepers and 15 year olds on the bench to come.

There’s plenty of players out there that would add to the squad. Just look at our bench. We needed strength in depth not a new starting 11. Very naive if you think there’s no player out there available that would even improve our squad. We don’t have to be shopping in league 1 and the championship. Our scouting is shocking. We should be out in Spain, Portugal, France looking at decent young players. Like I said. We had 3/4 months to prep for the start of the season. Complete and utter shambles.

If this is indeed true then BBM has made a bit of a rod for his own back now.

He can't really complain at all in the future about lack of options or a small squad as it will have been his choice.

So glad it's finally over. I wanted at least one more signing in but I can live with what we have now. We will find out in January if our manager is naive with his choices. But we have made good signings and if next season we signed 4 players of equal quality promotion would certainly look a possibility. A season of stability before the push!

Feels like a spin by the club if you ask me to say bbm is picky, just never understand why we’d leave our selves short?had a 15 year old on the bench most weeks 2 keepers, but surely a few loans to add depth to the squad wouldn’t have hurt?

I don’t believe on any level that there wasn’t a striker out there capable of being second fiddle to Salech and coming in to give him some breathing in room in games it looks like we’ve already won at the 70 minute mark or so without having to change our shape and style like we’re going to have to if it’s Robinson or Davies

Personally I think what Glen says rings 100% true.

People would rather us sign another Etete (and then moan when it didn't work out).

I don’t think Glen is lying my problem more so is with BBM who appears to have his standards set too high?

Anyone can see we needed a striker in, considering most teams only play with 1 there is probably a surplus of even 3rd choice strikers who would have done a job as 2nd choice here.

I get the feeling with BBM’s signings that the players have to be as good as if not better than who’s currently in the starting 11 in that position. I don’t think that’s entirely sustainable with someone like Salech and now we’re going into the season without someone to slot in for 20 minutes to help see a game out.

Am I disappointed and annoyed we didnt get more bodies in yes But bbm has earned the right to do things his way and we just have to trust him , im confident even with the squad as it is we will finish comfortably in mid table unless we have a massive injury crisis , let's hope our medical team are on point

He has 100% earned the right to do things his way.

Unfortunately some are already turning on him, I feel sorry for them that they have that mindset.

To me it looks like we are adding quality bit at a time. I think the players we have brought in have improved us . Once the cbs are fit that will be ok but I think we could have gone for more quality on the right wing and we are desperate for cover at striker . Unless he is thinking of playing a more mobile striker like ashford or davies up top , time will tell

Except he's not their puppet, have you not seen that he's criticised them??

The people who don't know what they're on about are those who called BBM a nobody when he was appointed, even said they doubted him halfway through the season and are now turning on him again.

I think the hate that Glen gets on here is ridiculous, he does his job. He's not going to slam the club every five minutes because it would harm his job.

The big question is WHY he couldn't get his main targets and the answer will always be, we didn't make enough money available.

All other reasons, i.e. being outbid, player not wanting to come, e.t.c. all go away with more money.

Did BBM set the valuation and not want to go higher or did the board not want to pay.

Bbm himself admitted he is picky ect ect when comes to buying players...so to put some blame on bbm can be justified because its become clear he did not have or want a plan B? His targets was what he wanted didn't get some so just let window pass without more additions... what part the committee played in all this we may find out one day....but doubt if it will be the real story never is.!
