TV, streaming and competition rules

Every match in the Carabao Cup this season will be shown live on Sky Sports.

If the score is level after 90 minutes, the match will go straight to penalties.

About Norwich City

Norwich are in their fifth successive season in the Championship, having been relegated from the Premier League in 2022.

Last season they finished 9th.

Since 2011, they have had six seasons in the Premier League.

They reached the Second Round of this competition last season, losing to Southampton.

Club Connections

Josh Murphy played for Norwich before joining us.

A player who went in the opposite direction was Cameron Jerome.

The Opposition's Manager

Philippe Clement was appointed Norwich manager in November last year.

They ended the season well and are seen as a team likely to be competing at the top end of the table this season.

He has also had spells in charge of Monaco, Rangers and Club Brugge. He won the Belgian title with both Genk and Club Brugge.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Difficult to predict how strong the team Norwich will put out will be, but here's a couple of their players to pick out.

Andre Brooks is a new signing and highly rated. He scored six goals for Sheffield United last season and is still young at 23.

Kenny McLean is an experienced and effective midfielder at Championship level over many years. He has been with Norwich since 2018 and featured for Scotland at the World Cup.

Referee

James Bell will take charge of this game.

He refereed 17 games last season, showing 62 yellow cards - an average of 3.64 per game. He didn't show any red cards.

Head To Head - Last Five Meetings

We don't have a good recent record against Norwich, losing four of the last five.

The last meeting was the final game of the season when we got relegated last time we were in the Championship, with Norwich winning 4-2 at Carrow Road.

Team News - Predicted Line-Ups

Both teams are expected to rotate their squad after the weekend's league games.

Last Game

We drew 2-2 at Derby in the league on Saturday. In the First Round of this competition, we won 3-2 at home to Swindon.

Norwich lost 3-0 at Millwall at the weekend, although they did have a red card in that game. They won 4-1 at home to MK Dons in the previous round.

Match Odds

Cardiff City - 6/4
Norwich City - 7/5

The Canaries have suffered two losses to start the Sky Bet Championship season though. They were defeated at home, 2-1, on opening day by West Bromwich Albion and followed that up with a 3-0 loss on the weekend at Millwall.

They have recruited five players so far for the First Team squad during the summer transfer window. Sam Field (CM, QPR), Andre Brooks (LW, Sheffield United), Darlin Yongwa (LB, Lorient) and two loanees in Bruno Alves (CB, Cruzeiro) and Anthony Musaba (LW, Fenerbahçe) have joined the Club.

Last season's top goalscorer was Jovon Makama, who linked up with the Canaries from Lincoln City during the summer of 2025. Makama netted 10 league goals from just 28 appearances, missing the latter half of the campaign with a broken bone in his foot. The 22-year-old is yet to appear this season.

34-year-old Kenny McLean is Norwich City's captain. The midfielder joined the Club in 2018 and has gone on to make over 300 appearances for the Canaries in all competitions. McLean famously scored from the half-way line for Scotland to help secure a spot at the 2026 World Cup, defeating Denmark, 4-2, in a pulsating clash.

Id like to see Kpakio on right wing and Scanlan on left wing as a trial. Full 90 for both.

Isaak lone striker.

Rest all other starting 11.

BBM Set for major changes :

Cardiff City are set for major changes against Norwich as Brian Barry-Murphy juggles his injuries and eyes a club record for teenager Noah Anyadike.

Norwich home, due to his small squad a few injuries, BBM can’t for anymore injuries before Sheff United Home.

So the Squad tomorrow night will include more Accademy players and more U21 players.

BBM:

"We haven't got many options at the moment, so hopefully we can have somebody in."

Cardiff had hoped to strengthen before the Norwich game, with Barry-Murphy saying after Saturday's draw that he expected a new signing to arrive before Tuesday.

However, any new arrival would have had to be registered by midday on Monday to be eligible for the cup tie, and that now looks unlikely.

It looks unlikely any new signings to arrive in time for Norwich home.

BBM is desperately trying for more loan signings.

That means Barry-Murphy is likely to turn to some of the younger members of his squad, with the cup presenting an opportunity for players who have had limited first-team exposure.

Cardiff scrape a win as Norwich are dreadful

Re: TEAM NEWS: " CARDIFF CITY v NORWICH CITY " MATCH THREAD

Mon Aug 24, 2026 10:36 pm

Brian Barry-Murphy says Cardiff City must look after their fit defenders when they host Norwich City in the EFL Cup second round on Tuesday (19:00 GMT).

The Bluebirds are in the midst of an early-season injury crisis at the back, with Dylan Lawlor, Calum Chambers, Will Fish and Gabriel Osho on the sidelines.

The absence of the four senior central defenders meant Barry-Murphy was forced to play right-back Perry Ng and left-back Joel Bagan in central defence at Derby County last Saturday, with Ronan Kpakio and Calum Scanlon the starting full-backs.

Cardiff's only defensive option on the bench at Pride Park was 15-year-old Noah Anyadike, who could come into contention for a debut against Norwich.

"We treat every game with the intention of winning and that won't change," said the Cardiff head coach.

"With regard to Tuesday, with the players who have been doing all the training and all the playing – the back four we played [at Derby] are the only ones we have doing all the training and all the playing at the club – we have to be mindful of not pushing too far, too soon in the season."

Barry-Murphy may also look to Cardiff's under-21 squad for further back-up players as he attempts to protect his frontline options before next weekend's Championship meeting with Sheffield United.

Having returned for a second loan spell from Liverpool, Scanlon (pictured above) played 80 minutes in Cardiff's draw with Wrexham last Monday and then managed the full game at Derby.

"[It was] Calum's first 90 minutes in two-and-a-half years so we have to be careful of exposing players like that again," Barry-Murphy added.

"But we haven't got many options at the moment."

Jack Moylan suffered a dead leg at Derby, but Cardiff are optimistic he will not face a lay-off.

Joel Colwill, David Turnbull, Isaak Davies and Callum Robinson are among those who could come into contention for a start against Norwich having begun on the bench against the Rams.

Barry-Murphy fielded something close to a first-choice side in round one of the EFL Cup, when Yousef Salech scored twice in a 3-2 victory over Swindon Town earlier this month.

Cardiff reached the quarter-finals of the competition last season, their best run since they were beaten in the final by Liverpool in 2012.

I agree Norwich will play the sponge man and kids we need to do the same.
The league is the big priority.

Realistically, I’m not expecting us to progress any further in this cup. First loss of the season.BBM will need to be mindful of the bigger game come Saturday- which he will be. Unless of course he already knows that there are additions coming in before Friday and can put out a stronger team.

That said, i see a Norwich win.

I disagree with the - play the kids, play a weakened team.

It’s a cup game … go for it ffs.

Don’t like this negativity, we should be trying to win every game in my opinion.
