Calum Scanlon

Mon Aug 10, 2026 3:54 pm

The Daily Mail are reporting that Cardiff City are interested in signing left back Calum Scanlon. He spent the second half of last season on loan at the club, making eight league appearances.

It is understood that Liverpool have made the 21-year-old available for loan again.

Do you think he’s the answer Worcester ?

With one year left on his contract, it’d be nice to find a deal with Liverpool to get him permanently

Personally I'm not sure, assume he'd compete with Bagan for LB.

Although I'm not basing it on much. Just that on the few occasions we saw him last season, he looked quick but that was it. Didn't see enough of him to judge him at League One, and obviously this season is a step up.

If he joins, maybe he can do well over a season but it is difficult to judge on the limited game time that he had.

Bad move in my eyes, we need better, didn't really do much whilst here in league 1

If true then BBM must have seen enough of him in training to want him back.

We'll have to trust the manager on this one.

In all fairness... He was only brought in to cover for Joel and was never gonna push him out of the team based on his performances last season. Joel was one of the most consistent players in L1.

I’m willing to be proven wrong further down the line, but in my opinion, Bagan will turn out to be one of the best LBs in the division.

Given the consistency he found last season, coupled with his experience of Championship football, he’s all set to really kick on.

If that happens, we’ll struggle to find anyone better without spending big money. For me, that money would be better spent on a number six, a winger and cover for Salech.

Long story short Scanlon would be a very good cover option, however with him being on the last year of his contract, I'd be surprised if he'd be happy to sit on the bench.

I really liked Scanlon especially when going forward. He always looked lively and a threat.
Trouble is, after sitting the season out mainly on the bench, I doubt he’ll be willing to let BBM do that to him twice. I know I wouldn’t.
He needs to play regularly and he won’t get that at City.
BBM should be focusing his attention on a centre back, a speedy winger and a striker.

I'm all for getting players back who were here last season as they know the set up and each other .

We do need cover. But I worry about loan players being used as cover because their team may recall them if they don't play.

I agree about loan players but it'd be almost impossible to get a sufficiently high quality player in on a permanent deal who'd accept having to spend most of his time on the bench.

What would the chances be of getting him on a permanent, maybe with a sell on?

We know he’s capable, he was hardly a disaster on loan, and given he’s 21 he’s probably not going to break through at Liverpool. They bought him for 500k as a teenager, I can’t imagine it would cost much more plus a sell on fee to bring him here permanently?

Yeah I agree actually, that makes sense. Probably wouldn't cost loads like you say.

I remember him being an ok defender and I remember him being very quick - something we need.

If we bring Scanlon and Keiiyman back then that gives the same team as last year and swopping Wintke for zMoylan not good enough we need minimum of 4 or 5 on top of that and it won't happen.u

Good for them. Doesn't change things when it comes to us though.

It's about signing the right players for us. It's not just signing anyone - that's how we ended up with Etete etc.

Would you rather sign players now who don't add anything? Or would you rather wait and have players who improve the squad? Just like Trott and Kellyman last season.

But maybe all this is too logical for you.

Re: Calum Scanlon

Scanlon is just an easy pic i would suggest as he was here last season but did hardly anything,
so I would not bring him back based on what I saw and if he showed he was a good acquisition he would have alternated between bagan but he didn't he was a injury time sub .

What a surprise.

You're in the minority on this thread.
